I turned my MacBook 2.4 unibody on when i got home from work today to find that my bluetooth mouse and keyboard wouldn't work. I opened up system preferences to find that no bluetooth menu was there. I looked in spotlight and tried to connect a bluetooth device only to get a message telling me I had no bluetooth module installed I have no idea what happened, only 10 hours ago it was working fine.
View 4 RepliesI was scanning some pictures today when I noticed that the icon for the folder I call 'Work', which contains all my documents, pictures ect yak and blah, wasn't on the desktop, so I temporarily parked my images in Dropbox and went to look for it. It just wasn't there. When I put in the names of specific folders into Spotlight, they weren't coming up. I do have Time Machine, and went back until I found the missing folder - it seemed to have been absent since yesterday morning - and restored all the items.
What could have caused this to happen? My computer has been acting strangely recently; a couple of weeks back it didn't want to spring into life at all, wasn't booting up - and then seemed fine on the third attempt. A couple of days ago the mouse suddenly stopped working, too, only to reappear with no problem a few minutes later.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have had my Mac Pro for a few years now, and I rewired the bluetooth module when I first got it. I then had Airport installed about 3 months ago, and had to rewire it again because the "geniuses" at Apple didn't know the wires were labeled incorrectly. I just moved my computer downstairs and my Apple Bluetooth keyboard is not working correctly. It lags, repeats letters, etc. Upstairs on one desk, it worked fine. Down here, on a different desk, It's acting up. My keyboard is on the left middle of the desk, and the computer is on the floor on the right side. Total distance is less than three feet, with a file drawer inbetween. It works if I put it in my lap, but not on the desk. I just opened it up to check the wires again, and they are tight, and right.

I read about the Bluetooth Module and the BT,1,2,3 wires inside the mac pro and the possibility of a wire being labeled wrong. Unless the module is on the back of the motherboard, I haven't seen any wire that says BT. If the tray where the ram slots are is removed there 2 tiny wires in the lower left that says 1 and 3. No other connector for BT so I don't think thats the location. Where is this Bluetooth Module located? If I cant get this to work correctly whats the best dongle to get?
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo my iBook of 4 years died last week from a bad hard drive. Today I purchased a 1.42 Ghz G4 Mini with 1 GB of RAM, 80 Gb HDD, Super Drive, and Airport, for $300 on craigslist. I got it today set everything up with my Dell Monitor and Apple Keyboard and Mouse etc.
First: Any thoughts on if this was a wise purchase (hindsight being 20/20 and all), I'm very happy thus far and will look to get a Macbook Pro in about 6-12 months.
Second: Is there anyway to get or upgrade the Mini to have the nonexistent Bluetooth module? If not, what's the best option to create Bluetooth connectivity?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 12inch powerbook 1.5ghz (Most recent of the 12inch PowerBooks) running 10.4.8. Its a very clean install (Format and re-installed last weekend). I started using a bluetooth might mouse during the week. Since waking my computer up from sleep I get Bluetooth: not available. Bluetooth options have all disappeared from preferences. I have tried:
Rebooting
Unpluggin power and removing battery for 60 seconds.
Resetting nvram and restoring defaults.
Deleting the bluetooth preferences file.
If i plug in a usb bluetooth adapter it works fine.
This is a weird case that I cant explain. The wifi and bluetooth icons have disappeared from the status bar at the top of the screen. I tried to check them in system preferences but whenever i apply the settings, it goes back to how it was before. Running 10.5.8, Macbook
View 1 Replies View RelatedI forced rebooted my computer after my windows froze and after I turned it back on my mighty mouse didn't connect. So I went on into my Mac OSX and for some reason the icon in the System preference disappeared and I no longer saw the bluetooth icon. I went manually to applications and checked and there was only Bluetooth File Exchange.

I was downloading Front Row when I realized it was just the update, not the actual Front Row. So, I deleted it and got the pinwheel of death. Next thing I know my clock and bluetooth/volume buttons on the top right are gone! Already tried going through system pref.

After this, I have hardly any of my 80GB left (about 2MB currently!). I have nothing else on (I have not put anything on other than the odd photo). Have I doubled up the OS? If so how do I remove the first one! Also (you'd think I would learn) lent it to off spring to watch DVD whilst in France on holiday - battery now does not charge whatsosever! Has the voltage difference when using mains cable abroad just fried the battery?

I got a very wierd issue going on with my 2TB Western Digital External HD that is connected to my Macbook Air.
All of my folders show the contents when using Windows XP (thur BootCamp) except for one folder, which I have all my movies in. The folders has 24GB of movies in it that I transfered to my external drive from another external HDD while using Snow Leopard (dont know if that matters).
Well I cant see any of the movies in that folder when it open. Its completely empty. But when I check the properties on it shows 24GB. However last night I transferd 15 movies into the folder (They are included in that 24gb) and I can see all 15 movies. But not the rest.
my new MBA crashed two times without any particular software running. I noticed this yesterday evening, after I'd downloaded some software updates and tried to back up my files using Time Machine. An image file that was saved on my desktop has also changed its name, from "Peter and Laura caricature" to "-09§". However, the name of a movie file saved on my desktop has remained the same, so whatever has caused these file names to change hasn't affected everything on my desktop (I only had three items there - the hard drive, the image and the movie).Is this something I need to be concerned about? Does it signal some sort of corruption or virus? No-one else uses my machine.

I plan on buying more ram soon. my mac pro 2010 quad 2.8 came with 1066 ram but I am buying 1333 ram (hex core in future) 4GB models. I know that my new ram will be reduced to 1066 but will the new ram be able to coexist with the old 1GB modules?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed 8 x 4Gb RAM in my Mac Pro (2.2.4GHz Quad-core Intel xeon). When I check, slot 8 shows up as empty and that I only have 28 Gb of RAm and not 32. Can I leave things alone and run it on 28Gb of RAM or should I remove the defective module in slot 8 as well as the RAM in Slot 4 to balance it? Alternatively I have 2 x 1 Gb RAm modules I could put in slot 4 and 8.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I installed it, system profiler keeps saying it's 256. I have a 128 and 2 64's in there. In the 4th slot I put the 512. I tried just putting it in (to make just 512) and it still said.
What is weird is that when it only had the 512 stick in there, it seemed faster then with just the other 3 sticks. Is it just saying the wrong number?
