So I just got a brand new White MB. I would like to replace the 120 GB 5400 rpm HD with a larger and perhaps faster 3rd party one. I have never done this before and I was wondering if people could warn me of any potential hazards as I pick out a new hard drive. Specifically:
- What are the physical dimensions of the HD for this computer?
- Can I put a 7200 rpm one in? Will this cause hazardous overheating? Can my computer handle it?
I have seen some great deals on 320 GB and 500 GB 7200 rpm HDs on Newegg. I just want to make sure they will work with my computer. Any specific models people can recommend?
I have a white vertical line down the right side of my internal brand new macbook pro 13" display. I've done the following:
-Shutdown the computer, and restarted in Safe Mode by pressing the Shift key after the restart tone
-Shutdown the computer, and restarted by pressing Command, Option, P & R after the restart tone
-Checked display resolution, Best for Retina
-Hooked it up to a Dell external monitor and via projection to screen. There are no lines on the external or secondary screens
-Just curious, I ran a color utility which can not repair 4 items, maybe this is another issue.
This is a brand new Macbook Pro, just out of the box. It was fine for two days without any issues, fine last night while in use, opened it up this morning with the line.
I've begun to notice a ring, roughly three inches in diameter, in the middle of my Air, Rev C, Screen. It is a white ring, a couple of millimeters thick, that I can see best behind an all white screen, i.e. a blank page of a word processing document.

Anyone seen anything like this before. I can actually see part of it right on the white of the page I am typing in this thread.
Anyone know of any 3rd party SSD (solid state drives) available that will fit the Air?? I was hoping to get a 32GB SSD for a good price & do the swap myself. I dont need much internal space & use my server for all my big files over 802.11n, so I cant justify paying Apple $1K just for the option of the SSD.
I recently purchased a new SSD and would like to input that into my MBP 2012. If I have a partition on my external HDD that contains the carbon copy of my MBP, am I able to clone it into my SSD after I have installed it in the MBP through the USB?
Internal HDD --> External HDD Place internal HDD into optibay, and place SSD into the harddisk slot Connect External HDD via USB to MBP CarbonCopy to new SSD via USB from External HDD Format Internal HDD
My macBook battery is dying and out of warranty. I need to find a replacement but the Apple battery is really expensive. Is there any reliable 3rd party battery out there? If none of the 3rd party is reliable, I would rather get the expensive OEM.
I know everyone who have macbook pro 5.4(Mid 2009, 2.53Ghz) trying 3rd party hdd(such as Segate and Western Digital Scorpio black) or SSD have a problems like 1. can't install SL or lion 2. occasional freezes every 7-8 seconds and etc. The last solution I saw on the other discussion forum was downgrading the EFI firmware from 1.7 to 1.6. Without downgrading EFI firmware to 1.6,I'm wondering if Hitachi Travelstar 5K750(5400rpm, SATA2) or 5K500.B(5400rpm, SATA2) or 7K500(7200rpm, SATA2) - any of this is going to work on my MBP 5.4. Does anyone with those Hitachi HDDs have a problem?
I have a Samsung External DVD Drive, will this work with the Air? I see no reason why it wouldn't.... I mean, it looks ugly but it's just as functional.
I have an LG 16x external drive. Will this work with the MBA for tasks such as installing system software? For that matter, apart from unpowered dvd drives, what else does not work with the MBA's USB port.
Ok I connected my Air to a LG drive GSA-E50L USB DVD drive. It seems to work fine in Windows and OS X. For booting it does work with the OS X dvd's.
However, it refuses to boot from a Windows XP installation disk.
I've tried different boot disks aswell. No luck.
When I boot pressing the option key, the DVD drive is one of the options. It says "Windows CD". I then choose it. It starts reading the CD and then the apple sign is displayed. The apple sign changes into a stop sign and goes back to the apple sign again.
Does anyone know what is going on?
Has anyone been able to boot from a Windows disk with a non Apple USB drive?
I was wondering if I took my macbook pro to an Apple store along with the third party ram if they would install it for me. I wouldn't mind having to pay 50$ to get them to install it. Do you think they would install third party ram at all?
I have made multiple attempts at installing third party screensavers. They install just fine. The problem is that when I go to system and prefrences/ screensavers, I can't find them. I can find them in finder, and click "open with system and preferences", and system and preferences will open, but won't list my screensaver. They are .saver files and are for mac os x.
I've ordered the 15" i7 with HiRes Glossy and the 500GB 72k last week. Now i'm one of the few lucky germans waiting for a volcano to stop bitching around so my new toy can get here... To shorten the waiting time, i've been a little around this forum reading about this and that. I came across several discussions about whether to use a SSD or a HDD. Reading them a thought crossed my mind: Why not remove the DVD-Drive (i use my DVD-Drive maybe once every 2-3 monts... for that an external drive would do) and replace it with a medium sized (say 128GB) SSD. One could put OSX on the SSD and have all the pro's of the SSD (instant boot times, etc...), while still being able to use the 72k HDD at the same time...
Just upgraded to Lion tonight. My HP Laser bluetooth Model N558 mouse which worked perfectly on the 17" macbook pro using Snow Leopard NOW will not pair with Mac. Downloaded the latest HP drivers, did a software update, restarted but mouse attemps to pair for about 1-2 seconds and then error message comes up saying the Mouce cannot pair with the Mac. Very frustrating and not finding any answers on MAC or HP forums. Error message on "select bluetooth device" says, "The device does not have the necessary services." It sure had the necessary services using Snow Leopard. Next error message, "The paring attempt was unsuccessful. The device is refusing the paring attempt..."
No matter what I have tried, new batteries, restarts, take out batteries for 10 minutes, holding down 'discover' button for 10 seconds. I've tried just about everything mentioned in the forums.

Does anyone have experience with eReplacements - MacBook MagSafe AC adapter for 13" MacBook? Or any other brand of third party Power Adapter?I need to replace mine.
I need to pick up a second power adapter for my 13" MacBook Pro to keep in my bag to take with me to work. I don't particularly want to spend the $75ish for an Apple one if I can avoid it. Is there a decent cheaper 3rd party adapter out there that works well?
After what started out as a simple question...why won't my iChat stay connected now that i have installed OS Lion and spending over 2 hours with Apple Phone support and trying all the known trouble shoots, they told me the only thing I can now do is Back Up my MacBook Pro and do a HD erase and reinstall everything. So, this has me a little freaked out! I have never done this and am afraid of the results. In particular, my 3rd party applications such as all my Adobe Suite applications. I no longer have access to the initial start up and install Creative Suite CDs! At first apple support said Time Machine WOULD NOT back up 3rd party apps. Then I get an email and said they were mistaken and it WILL with a link to an article. Yet I see nothing about it with in the article I was sent. SO, has anyone successfully reinstalled their Mac from a Time Machine Backup along with any 3rd party apps?
I could just go back to Snow Leopard since I had no issues with iChat using that OS. I was told I would have to do the same erasing of my HD either way to reinstall that OS.
Info: MacBook Pro (15-inch Late 2008), Mac OS X (10.7.3)
I reinstalled from a time machine backup and lost my backup partition plu some of my stuff seems to hang up now. my machine shipped with lion so i can get the internet reinstall i just dont want lose my apps and software
When I go to front row, all my video content plays sound, but the picture is just a pure white screen (shows the slider to move chapters, etc., but the screen is just white).
Any ideas for solutions? I did google searches, etc., to no avail. I have a MP (not early 08), which I upgraded the graphics card to a 2600XT, and it's running Leopard.
I want to keep my applications etc on one internal HD and use my second internal HD as a back up.I am a graphic designer, and i have been backing up to an external LACIE Porche 160 Gig firewire HD. This has worked fine, but...My second internal HD (112 gig?) is still loaded with 10.3 and has adobe CS2 on it along with some other crap that I no longer need.I have loaded Adobe CS3 on my primary drive and have all the files I need on that one...What is the best way to set up my second HD as a "slave" drive to improve the performance of my G5 dual 2 Ghz??Will there be any issues now that I loaded Leopard on the primary HD?
Information: Power PC G5 Tower 2 Ghz dual processor (2004?) with two internal hard drives Mac OS X (10.5)
I know this has probably been asked many times over, but I've heard Crucial recommended as the best place to purchase some RAM. Is this the general consensus around here?
My battery for my 12" Powerbook G4 is munted and i need a new one. There are a few around for about $90AUD from 3rd party re-sellers which is less than half the $200AUD apple want for a genuine battery.
So i'm just wondering, has anyone got any recommendations about 3rd party batteries? i know it will probably vary a bit depending on where they're from, but i spose i'm just wondering if its worth the extra $100?
