Mac :: Posible To Move Windows 7 From One Drive To Another?

Oct 14, 2010

I currently have 2 drives installed in my MBP 15" i7, via Optibay kit. I have OSX on the main drive, and Windows 7 on the optibay drive. I'm attempting to upgrade/replace the optibay drive. So, I've used Winclone to clone the optibay drive, I have restored it on my new drive, and installed the new drive in place of the old one in the optibay. When I boot OSX, I can see the new bootcamp drive and all its contents. But when I attempt to boot windows, I just get a black screen with a blinking white cursor in the upper left corner

Windows On Mac :: How To Move Win 7 Bootcamp To New Hard Drive

Sep 20, 2010

I have a win 7 installation on its own drive in my mac pro. I now need to move it to a new hard drive.

In mac I would use super duper or carbon copy cloner to just copy the lot onto another drive whilst making it bootable. How would I do this with the windows drive?

Windows On Mac :: Clone Bootcamp/move To New Drive?

Jul 3, 2010

I have XP on a 1 TB HDD (only about 80 GB is used) and I want to move it to a 120 GB partition on an SSD and boot from there.

This would be trivial in OSX - just use carbon copy. But, I can't get it done using Acronis True Image 2010 or any other utility I've tried while in XP. Everything wants to clone the entire 1 TB and not simply the 80ish GB of files.

What should I use to accomplish my goal (or what must I do different with Acronis)?

Windows On Mac :: How To Move Partition To An Actual Hard Drive

Oct 5, 2010

I have an i7 iMac and I installed Windows 7 on it and was wondering down the road when I move onto a new machine, how to I take that partition with me? For example, I use time machine to back up my Mac files so at any time I'll be ready to start anew, I can I do this for my windows partition? BTW, the partition is 500GB on a 2 TB drive.

I'm hoping there's a way to give the partition it's own hard drive when I get a computer that can handle multiple hard drives.

Windows On Mac :: Possible To Move Bootcamp Partition To External Drive?

Jan 4, 2010

I currently have XP installed on a Bootcamp partition on my main iMac hard drive. I've got a new external USB 2.0 SATA hard drive enclosure on the way that I plan to install a couple of spare SATA drives into. I was wondering about somehow moving my current Bootcamp partition off the main iMac drive and onto the spare WD Raptor drive that I've got without having to reinstall everything all over again. My second question would be - if I am able to switch the Bootcamp partition location, would the USB 2.0 transfer speed be fast enough for when I run windows? I typically use Windows for gaming only and very little else.

OS X :: Hard Drive Makes Clicking Sound / Move Apps From Internal Drive To New One?

Feb 19, 2010

I have a Dual 1.8 G5 and my hard drive has started to make a clicking sound every now and then. I believe it may be on the verge of dying anyday. Since i have space to put in another internal hard drive i am planning to get a WD Black Caviar 1TB and put it in.

Now my question is how do i move all my application from the old internal drive to the new internal drive. From what i have researched it seems that using a enclosure is the way to go but all the info i have seen is referring to replacing the drive rather adding a new one.I would like to move everything to the new drive and make that a master. What is the best way to perform this task?

The other half of the drive is my boot disk so I do not want to reformat the whole drive.

OS X :: How To Grab And Move Windows ?

Nov 29, 2009

Is there a way to "grab" and move a window without having to move the cursor to the borders? On linux you can hold down "alt" then click anywhere on a window and the cursor becomes a "hand" so you can grab and move a window around. It makes it easier especially on a laptop so you don't have to move the cursor up to the border.

Windows On Mac :: Move Parallels VM Over To Bootcamp?

Nov 19, 2010

I have a Santa Rosa MBP with a broken Superdrive, and I need to get Windows 7 installed on Bootcamp. I had a copy of Parallels laying around so I install W7 on that, but now I need a way to image that over to my Bootcamp partition. Is this possible? No amount of Googling is turning anything up.

Alternatively, if anyone knows other ways for me to get W7 on my laptop, that would be just as appreciated. I have tried imaging my flash drive with W7, and unfortunately I get an error on rEFIt that external hard drives are not well-supported by Apple's firmware for legacy OS booting.

OS X :: Not Automatically Move All Windows Of Application?

Feb 17, 2009

When I enter spaces and move a window or dialogue of an application to a new space, it does not automatically move ALL windows of that app. This is frustrating and I end up having to move five or six windows to get the whole app into the new space. This is not the case with all apps, but it seems like spaces has problems with professional apps like Flash, Pro Toots, Photoshop -- it never moves all the little related dialogues and panels. Anyway to fix this other than to close the app and open it fresh in the new space?

IMac :: How To Move Windows To The Docks Bar

Dec 14, 2009

Would it be possible to move windows to the "dock bar" when I click on another window? I know it is possible to move it to the docks when we click on the yellow "-" button, but what I want is that it automatically puts itself to the dock when I navigate away from a window. Just like in Windows. Like I want all my windows to be in the docks. It's very annoying having to search for the opened windows.

what would be the easiest? And would the fact that the harddrives are configured differently effect this? HFS to NTFS?

OS X :: How Do I Move Application Windows Between Spaces From The Keyboard

Mar 20, 2009

1) How do I move application windows between spaces from the keyboard? I know I can drag the window to the edge of the window and it'll go to the next space, but I don't like to use the mouse unless it's absolutely required.

2) When I restore a window into the current space, it automatically goes to the space the window originated from. How do I disable this? When I bring a window up from the dock, I want it to open in the space I am currently in.

3) When I open a new application window, it goes to the space where the last application window was located. This is annoying. How do I disable this? I want it to open in the current space, even if I was in another space the last time I had an application open in another space.

Windows On Mac :: Install Vista On MBA Then Move It To MBP In A Few Months?

Sep 7, 2009

I have a MBA, and have decided that I want to have Windows on it as well, since although I hate Windows and love OSX I use quite a lot of Windows only s/w, and I only want to carry one computer.

Couple of questions though:

How big a partition does Windows really need (I have 128GB SSD, about 80GB free right now)?

If I get a new MBP a few months down the line, how easy is it to move the copy of Windows to that? And do they honestly expect me to pay 250 a time to install Windows on two laptops if I decide to keep the old one, even though they are both for me and would never be used at the same time?

This is an honest question, I don't want to cheat anyone, but I'm not exactly made of money, and the price of the Windows os scares me!

Windows On Mac :: Move A Boot Camp Partition?

I am looking to upgrade my hard drive to 500GB. The question is: If I create my boot camp partition now, can I just clone it to the new hard drive, or will I have to start over?

Is it as simple as just copying everything over, or should I just wait a few months until I get a new hard drive?

Windows On Mac :: Error While Making Partition - Files Cannot Move

Aug 7, 2010

I'm trying to get Windows 7 on my mac and when I go to bootcamp and do a partition I get, The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved. Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again. My disk is not partitioned and it's formatted correctly so i searched and saw that my HDD is like untidy or whatever it is called and it needs defragged. So i get iDeFrag full version and I do not know how to work it. Then I read I should back up a clone of my HDD and then copy it back to my mac, but i have no external hard drive.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Move A Window To Another, Existing Space That Already Has Windows

Jun 12, 2012

I have been using virtual desktops (VDT) for years and I often work 14 to 18 hours a day on my mac..

I can reorder my spaces in MC but that seems to be about all I can do and it really is ******* me off.

I need to be able to drag a single window from 1 space to another space where I already have another application running. This was TRIVIAL in SPACES but seems impossible in MC.

example:  I have a text file of notes in vi in one VDT and in another I have a browser window open to a customer location where I need to use or add to those notes with some complexity. I want to move that notes window from the VDT that it is in (because there are other apps there) to the current VDT so that I can easily use the notes and the browser together. I do NOT want to have to make the stupid vi window in ALL spaces. How do I do this?

another example: I have a browser with multiple tabs and I want to move ONE of them to another VDT. I can pull the tab to make another window.. But I can't move just that tab to another VDT!! How can I do that?

MacBook Pro :: How To Add A SSD And Move Old Hard Drive

Nov 7, 2010

I am running out of space on my Unibody MBP (June 2009 version). I just bought an OWC 120gb SSD, with the intention of putting it where my disk drive is, using their data doubler (which makes it fit).

I want to use the SSD as my startup disk, but have heard that if you use the drive which is connected where the old disk drive used to be as the start up disk, there are problems with the computer waking from sleep, unless you turn off hibernation.

So instead, I want to move my current hard drive to the disk drive slot, and put the SSD in the main slot.

If I were to do this, would I need to do any "extra" configuring besides setting the SSD as my startup disk?

After moving my harddrive to the disk drive slot, will it boot up normally, and then I can just add the SSD?

OS X :: Move Time Machine To New Drive?

Nov 28, 2007

There have been a few threads about how to move a time machine backup to a new disk and maintain the existing backups. Some have done this with carbon copy cloner.

This also works with the built in disk utility in Leopard. I turned off time machine first. Then I booted with the Leopard install DVD and ran disk utility. I partitioned the new disk and gave it the same name as the old time machine drive (not sure if that's necessary). I then used the restore function to clone the old time machine disk to the new one. I rebooted, turned time machine back on and it picked up where it left off. The first backup with the new drive took a little longer than expected considering nothing had really changed but all the prior backup data is intact as if nothing had changed.
