I recently started using Plex, and have noticed that some of the sources dont show up correctly, and Im starting to wonder if I am able to use both, or do I have to choose which app (Plex & iTunes) I will use.
Does anyone have a running iTunes+Plex system? And if so how is it organized and tagged?
How am I supposed to organise my files in order for Plex to be able to understand, and tag them. I read that for Movies I have to organise them like this:
Movies
:Movie Name
::Movie.avi
I haven't had much success with this. Also, how do I organise my TV Shows for them to be recognised by Plex?
Is it possible to start Plex instead of Front Row, using the Menu button on the Apple Remote?

View 4 Replies View RelatedCurrently I stream media (videos only at the moment) through my older MBP C2D Laptop using PS3 Media Server. I find the PS3 is loud and annoying so thinking of picking up a new generation Mac Mini to run my Media Serving Needs. My Equipment list is:
Pioneer 5080HD 768p Plasma
Yamaha RX-V3900 AVR
The rest of the equipment does not really matter. Thinking of hokoing it up by HDMI through the AVR to the plasma. Want to run Plex as my media front end. Now I also have an Acer Windows Home Server box kicking around with 1TB drive in it. Is it possible to use that on the network as a type of Media Storage that can be accessed by the Mini through Plex? Should I just use the WHS box as an archive unit? I know I will fill up the mini's HD fairly quickly.
Also I usually watch 720p MKV files through my PS3 so would I be fine doing that on the mini as well using Plex?
my 2008 Mac Pro keeps losing connection to my Plex Blu-ray burner. It is installed in the second optical drive bay. If I power down, pull the connections to the drive and re-attach, the drive is again recognized on boot. A day later, no drive found. The first optical (top bay) drive never loses connection.

I just received the monoprice male mini-display + male usb audio to female hdmi... when I connected it to my tv it worked great. I changed output for audio to usb and safari and vlc worked great(i.e. hd youtube clips play without hiccup, 1080p movies work, 720p tv shows work)
The only problem I had is when I open plex my sound suddenly goes from coming out of the TV to coming out of the built MBP speakers. What confused me is that sound effects ( when I raise or lower the volume using the shortcuts ) come out of of the tv speakers but the movie sounds come out of the MBP. I tried to look at settings in plex but I couldn't figure it out.
I recently bought the 2010 mac mini with the apple remote and I am very happy. I am having a little bit of trouble using the apple remote. Every time I turn on the mac mini I need to go to preferences and change the options of Candelair for the apple remote to work properly with Plex. I mean. I turn on the mac mini and the apple remote wont work absolutely. I need to get the magic mouse and go to preferences and change some options. It seems that this is the only way to "activate" the Plex functionality.
What I want is just to turn on the mac mini and immediately open Plex with the apple remote without needing to use the magic mouse or going to preferences. Is this possible? There must be a way to control the mac mini and Plex just from the start of Mac OS X. It gets very annoying to use the magic mouse along the apple remote. I turn on the mac mini and if I press the middle button (the one to open Plex with Candelair) nothing happens. As I say, I need to go to preferences and adjust the settings of Candelair and then it works. Why doesn't it work from the beginning?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am a new mac user (total convert--am on my second iMac in a month and am about to buy a macbook), and am having trouble with my itunes service. My first 24" iMac developed a clicking HDD, so I was lucky enough to be able to bring it back to the shop for a replacement iMac. I made a time machine backup of the first Mac and copied directly to the second one (which was flawless....how come I haven't been using macs prior to now? I've lost dozens of backups on PC). The only issue I've had is with iTunes--I keep getting an error that the iTunes library is newer than the version of iTunes on the computer. Is there anyway to fix this without losing my entire library of songs? I did make up a physical copy of the iTunes folder on my first Mac, just in case, so I assume that I could delete iTunes and reinstall a fresh copy, update it, and then copy the iTunes folder over to the new version. But this is a Windows approach to the issue and there is probably a simpler way of fixing this. Alternately, I could do the same but sync my iPod and copy everything to my library that way.

Before it was annoying, having to purchase both the regular video and HD video, then delete the unwanted HD download from my queue list, but now it's a problem. I can't empty the unwanted HD downloads, and for me to download them all will tie up my connection for a week or more.

I loved the Genius Recommendation Panel on iTunes 9 and found lots of new songs and artists when using itI cannot believe Apple removed it from iTunes 10 and replaced it with a social networking site with the awful title "Ping"
So I replaced iTunes 9 last night, only to find that it wouldn't accept my iTunes library. I managed to reload the songs, but I have lost all my playlists, star ratings, play counts, etc. Its all gone.
Brand new convert to Mac here: After receiving an iPod Touch from my boss when he upgraded to an iPhone, I have fallen in love with the Mac hardware and OS. I just got a new macbook and would like to transfer my iTunes from my old PC laptop. I am also a neophyte to iTunes so forgive me if there is a very simplistic answer to this issue.
The physical music is located on my external drive connected to the PC with the iTunes original music locations pointed to it . My specific question is, if I backup iTunes, restore to the Mac, plug in the external drive to the Mac, will it work seamlessly? I'm not sure if the existing iTunes music locations will re-synch since the music locations on the laptop iTunes are mapped to the "G:" drive. If it won't work that way, what do you recommend as the best way to go about it? I want to make sure I don't waste as much time as when I initially set up my iTunes/iPod touch (simply stuck in "PC" mindset).
I think I found a bug in iTunes, because I can find no other explanation. Every once in a while (like once every three weeks) my iTunes window goes down. By this I mean everytime i click a different playlist, view, category, iTunes store, the window moves down a bit leaving this gap at the top. It randomly comes and goes, and its not really a big deal, but it does get really annoying. Is anyone else getting this? and no, im not just moving the window down

The problem I have is, that when i open iTunes, nothing happens. I can see it's running in the Task Manager, but I can't get it to open.

I don't know when it happened, but I just noticed that I *CAN* play them full screen now. (Either by selecting "View" -> "Full Screen"; hitting Command-F, or clicking a new "Full screen" widget at the upper-right on the "title bar" for the LP/Extra within the content pane of iTunes.)
But, strangely, this only appears on one of my computers, even though both are running the same version of OS X (10.6.2,) and the same version of iTunes (9.0.2.)
Does anyone know the secret to enabling this? I have checked every single setting in iTunes, both menus and preferences, and they are all perfectly matched between the two computers.

Is the there a way to force iTunes to store my mobile applications on my external drive automatically?I have my library set to an external and all my music, movies, etc goes onto the proper location except the mobile applications. I know I can use the consolidate library command, which will move the apps to the external. But as soon as I d/l another app iTunes begins saving them to the default folder again.

It's not that important by the way, because I don't see icons in full 512x512. Even in 512x512 it's not noticeable. (That's why this is a trivia.)
