I just purchased a 2.26Ghz Mini with 10.6.1 preinstalled. Wondering if it's possible to downgrade to 10.5 or will there possibly be hardware issues since the hardware was likely built with 10.6 in mind? Haven't see any threads with this particular issue/question.
I'm looking at one of the new Mini's and I don't want to use Snow Leopard yet. The fonts in QuarkXpress and CS3 are still too problematic my tastes. Can I downgrade to Leopard, or am I stuck with Snow Leopard as the base system?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm having a bit of trouble trying to get a 4gb Memory Stick Duo to mount on my macbook running 10.6.2. My camera doesn't recognise the card when inserted and neither does my macbook. When I try connect it to the macbook I get the "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer" with three options of: Initialise, Ignore, Eject. When I view the card in disk utility the repair and verify disk are greyed out as the screen shot shows. It says it is a 33mb disk when it should be 4gb and the SMART status is not supported and Partition Map scheme says it is unformatted. The format should be FAT (I think). It seems the card could be corrupted in some way or worse dead. Is there anyway of trying to recover the files, which are all photos?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI think I may have a dead pixel in my MBP. I've got the October 2008 model, the LED display. Today I noticed a little grey-ish speck in the display. And trust me, it is IN it, not ON it. Believe me, I wouldn't be wasting anyone's time if this was something that could simply be cleaned off. It is not visible when the display is off; when that area is dark, the spot is visible as a lighter grey as compared to the surrounding area; when that area is white/light, it appears as a darker grey color compared to the surrounding color. Having said all that, I have still cleaned the screen thoroughly several times but to no avail. It is visible from the boot screen (white screen with the apple) and as long as the screen is on, but again it disappears when I turn it off. From all this, I gather that it is likely a dead pixel. I have reset the PRAM and of course that didn't help. I called Apple and they agreed with me, so I went ahead and set up an appointment for the Genius Bar (almost an hour away).

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am having this problem since may be a week. I am suspecting that it started after updating to 10.7.4 Lion. Every hour, in my case at 47 minutes of the hour, I get a spinning beach ball and my MacBook becomes (sometimes completely) unresponsive. This happened in several programs including, Safari, Word, PowerPoint, Mail, Address Book etc etc.
Once I noticed that when this was happening my Time Machine icon was spinning (preparing backup). So I thought it might be related to that. Especially since time Machine tries to backup every hour. Now I usually backup every couple of days by connecting my USB drive, and have never had these problems before. I am guessing that every time Time Machine tries to make an hourly backup my computer for some reason becomes unresponsive.
I kept an eye out for it and indeed every time it happens it is at minute 47 of the hour in my case. And it happens every hour. Although I usually do not see the spinning Time Machine icon since my MacBook usually becomes almost completely unresponsive and reacts to almost nothing. I am guessing that's why I only noticed the time Machine icon spinning just once.

I was on a long bus ride and woke up in the morning and noticed everything under my seat was wet including about two inches of one end of my black MacBook. It was in one of those ubiquitous neoprene cases and while not submerged in water it was pretty wet. Oh, and I guess I don't know if it was water or not, but it didn't have an obvious color, smell, etc.
Anyway, I took out the battery and left it out for a little over a day hoping it would dry. When I put it back in and opened it up it seemed everything was working well and I worked on it under battery power for a little while. It suddenly shut off with the battery around 23% (it usually dies at 8%, I don't know why) and when I plugged it in and started up again the battery showed it was charging for about 10 or 20 seconds then said "Not Charging" then I got the little battery with an 'X' in it meaning there is no battery connected.
If I take it out and put it back in again it does the same thing (says it's charging for a moment then ends up with the 'X'). The odd things is that the water was on the non-battery end of the computer, it was on the end with the CD drive, which seems to be working. Okay, right, so is there anything that can be done? Is this battery just a nice, black paperweight? Is there reason to believe that something other than the battery has a problem?
If this battery is toast, where is a good place to buy a new battery? Do official Apple resellers sell them? I'm in Argentina right now and I don't think they have real Apple stores.
I have a 13" Late 2008 Al. Macbook, and something strange just happened. I was typing in Pages, when I started to hear and feel something clicking underneath my right palm. I recognized this as the hard drive, so I immediately shut down the computer. Tried restarting and heard the clicking again, so I held down the power button and force shut it down before it fully started up. Turned it around, removed the battery for a couple of seconds, then replaced it. Started up again, and the clicking disappeared; all my files are here as they were left.

I have thoroughly researched this issue. I attempted to delete all website data, deleted the cache, reset Safari. I have not had success with all of these attempted fix actions. I am NOT interested in reinstalling Lion--NOT happening. I am able to access from Firefox on my Mac, my work computer, my iPhone, my iPad, and my Windows PC with no problems. I tried on my wife's Mac with Safari 5.1.5 and I got the same error. So it is obviously an issue with the browser, not my machine.

8 month old MBP 15" i7 4GB RAM 500GB HDD, took it in last week to get the logic board replaced (computer wouldn't boot up) and now it is running fine, although at random times the display will go haywire and I am forced to restart the comp (manually). Why is it doing this? Do I need to update something? Is it related to the new logic board at all?

I am having the problem of my iMac freeszing and becoming unresponsive. I can move my mouse curser around the screen, but nothing is responsive. Tried a force quit using the keyboard but that doesn't work either.
I have to power my iMac on then off to restart.
I think it may have something to do when I launch iTunes, and I am using CPU intensive applications? This problem has occured recently when i have been watching YouTube videos, then launched iTunes. Also on another occasion when using Ableton Live, then launched iTunes.
When my iMac reboots after the freeze, and launch iTunes for the first time the "Checking iTunes Library" dialogue box appears and takes a while to load before iTunes launches. My iTunes Library is quite large, 55GB.
Anybody got any trouble shooting advice? I know the console app shows errors but am not very sure what to look for.
I'm running 10.6.4 and iTunes 9.2.1.
Today I went to plug in my Lacie 250 GB USB external hard drive into my 13 in. MacBook to get a shirt template for a design I am making. I discovered that the hard drive just would not mount and show on the desktop, and I remembered that this happened a few days before, but all I did was unplug it and plug it back in, and it worked... except that today, that didn't work at all. I tried the other USB port, and the hard drive showed up on the desktop for about a second, and then disappeared. I kept on replugging it back into both USB ports, but nothing happened.
Then I tried to see if it would work on the PC beside me, and it was recognized as an external device; however, a message came up telling me the drive was malfunctioning. I am guessing this is from ejecting it incorrectly (because I am in a hurry to head to my next classes... I use this laptop at school), but I have incorrectly disconnected it before in the past and this problem never happened to me before. Every single project I have ever created for my design career is on that hard drive, and all I want now is to get my files back. All I need it to do is show up on the desktop for just the right amount of time for me to copy my files onto my computer. I read online to put it into the freezer for a while and it should mount, but that didn't work. I tried using Disk Warrior, Data Rescue 3, and Tech Tool Deluxe, but the hard drive did not show up on any of those apps. I tried plugging the hard drive into an iMac as well, but it did not show up either.
I need to downgrade to 10.6.4, anyone know how I can do this? =/ Its driving me nuts I can't find anything on it online..

I want to essentially "downgrade" as I do not have time to go a full installation of 10.5. Do I just boot from my 10.5 disc and install it as if I was doing it as an upgrade?

I did not get the disks with it.I have the hard drive from my now deceased PB that has Leopard on it. It worked flawlessly until the logic board fried.I want to put Leopard from the PB onto the MBP. What is the best way to do that? Swapping drives won't work, different types.
Background on the wifi for those that are curious...I have been fighting wifi drops constantly since I got the MBP. I searched and tried every solution suggested. All failed. I suspected it was how SL manages the Airport card. To test my theory, I booted the MBP off the hard drive from my PB (via USB drive case) running Leopard. The problem disappeared... I went MANY hours with a SOLID connection. Never dropped.
I think Airport in SL constantly tries to connect to 802.11(n) networks whenever it sees them as they would be the fastest. I do not have an 802.11(n) capable home wifi network. Each time a nearby network, one in particular I identified, was seen by the MBP, it would try to connect to it and drop my home wifi.
I am considering the move from the GTX 285 to the ATI 5770. The reasoning behind this is that I'm wanting to change from a Dell 30" to the new 27" Cinema display. And obviously the 285 won't connect to this monitor. My biggest concern is the potential drop in performance. Having said that the Most intensive graphics application I have is Call of Duty 4: MW. This is at the moment at least. If better game come out that are more graphics hungry things may change, but I can still upgrade down the track. I'm really struggling to find any comparison between these two cards.

While it definitely is faster than Vista and in some ways XP, I find all the eye candy even with Aero off to give me headaches and it has certain graphical problems with certain programs made for the Windows 9x line, even with compatibility mode. I don't have an optical drive though, but I do have another spare computer and a 4 GB Flash Drive so I can load the disc files onto the USB drive if possible. Overall I want to just wait for SP1 to come out before being completely dedicated to Windows 7.Is there a way to downgrade from Windows 7 to Windows XP via Flash Drive?

I have all the install disks for 10.4, but the Mac won't boot from them. It acknowledges the disk, then after a few minutes I get the 'No Entry' sign. (I've set up a separate partition to try to install 10.4 onto, but without success.) This should work, shouldn't it?
