MacBook :: Possibly To Replace Logic Boards?

Apr 11, 2010

I have a mid-2007 Macbook 2.16 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with integrated GMA950. Now, as you all know the GMA950 is absolute ****. But, I have a close friend that has this [URL] logic board he can sell to me for a pretty cheap price. I am certainly in no condition to upgrade to a newer Macbook as of yet, so this should hold me over for the time being. So, I was wondering if it is possible to install it into my Macbook.

MacBook Pro :: DIY - Test Logic Boards?

Dec 10, 2010

I'm stuck between knowing if my MBP has a bag logic board, worn out plugs going Into it, or other reasons. It will not power on at all. About 5-10 minutes prior it was perfect. The battery had power, and when its not plugged up the green light is very bright. I figure since the I/O board is connected to the Logic and it shows power, that it may indicate its ok. But i dont know, since its not directly hooked to it. Apple / Geniuses and Other shops just give me quotes on changing out the logic board after observation of it not getting power...never have said anything relating to "After Testing the logic board...." So I am wondering, whats the secret? how is it done? CAN it be done at home? or, does anyone know what the shops/techs use to test boards?

IMac :: Graphics Cards And Logic Boards In Newer

Feb 23, 2009

it appears my graphics card on my old iMac G5 is toast. I took it to the Apple Store and they said they'd have to replace the whole logic board for around $680. After searching around this forum, that does appear to be the only fix. My question is this: is the graphics card on the newer iMacs soldered into place as it was in the older iMacs (G5 and I believe the first gen Intels as well)? Because, if so, that is really lame and may affect my computer replacement decision.

MacBook Pro :: Screen Keeps Crashing Possibly Related To New Logic Board?

Apr 21, 2012

8 month old MBP 15" i7 4GB RAM 500GB HDD, took it in last week to get the logic board replaced (computer wouldn't boot up) and now it is running fine, although at random times the display will go haywire and I am forced to restart the comp (manually). Why is it doing this? Do I need to update something? Is it related to the new logic board at all?

MacBook Pro :: MBP Logic Board Replace?

Aug 12, 2008

My computer recently, today, got a problem where the monitor no longer works, and an external monitor doesn't work. Thought it was maybe this can't get out of sleep problem, but it's not.

A shut down and restart, battery removal, connect a another monitor does not do anything. It seems to work fine otherwise.

Took it in and they said the entire logic board had to be replaced, and would be $1,300. owwww.

Is this reasonable? Anyone have a cheaper way to go about this? This is a 2.4 MacBook Pro. Another option, I would hate to do without my computer for a length of time, but $1,300 is money I really don't have now.

I see in the Buyer's Guide another incarnation of the MacBook Pro is coming. Does that mean the price of my logic board would drop soon?

MacBook Air :: Will Replace The Logic Board A Second Time Good?

Jul 20, 2010

I bought a refurbished first gen MBA about a year and a half ago. (It's under applecare for another 1.5 years). I have had terrible problems with video playback and trying to do the even most mild editing in Aperture and iMovie. Also, the screen is sometimes scrambled: Black chunks will appear like holes in the desktop image; The menubar will get scrambled; or safari will have weird misalignments around the toolbar/url.

Apple replaced the logic board about 6 months ago. I've continued to have these problems. I took it to the genius bar again today and the rep told me it was a problem with the graphics card and that they would replace the card. Then he said the logic board would be replaced since the logic board is fused to the video card.

That confused me. If the card is fused to the logic board, then it must have already been replaced the last time. He agreed, but at the same time assured me that this time it would somehow be different. I wasn't going to argue with him, but I have low expectations for any real results in improving performance.

Can anyone clarify for me what he was talking about? Am I wrong to believe that a second logic board replacement (and thereby a second graphics card) will solve the issues I am having?

Mac Pro :: Processor Died - Replace Logic Board?

Feb 24, 2009

I have a first gen Mac Pro - late 2006 I think - and one of the processors died, making it one hell of a paper weight. The authorized Mac tech has told me he has to order the entire logic board with processors b/c you can't just replace the processors. Googling tells me otherwise.

Basically it's $700 for the parts - is this the route I have to go? Is that a good price? Can I upgrade processors at this point?

PowerPC :: Replace Logic Board Or Part Out PowerBook G4?

Feb 15, 2009

I came across a powerbook g4 (dvi, 15 inches, 800mhz, 512mbs, airport card, dvd-rom + cd-rw, after market battery never used and after market ac adapter)) sold "as is" on craig's list. I picked it up for $50. It had everything but the hdd. The first time i plugged it (without hdd) I got the flashing ?. I swapped in another hdd and all I would would get the apple chime followed three soft beeps (nothing on the screen). And then eventually, I would power it on and the only sign of life I would get is the caps lock light on, and the num lock light only if I hit F5 (again nothing on the screen). If i let the powerbook sit without the battery for a while, then I would get the apple chime again but then the power cut out right away. This happens with the adaptor or the battery only which leads me to believe it's not the dc-in board. I have tried different ram, disconnected the airport card, disconnected the cd player. I have tried resetting the PMU and every key combination to reset the PRAM (it never seemed to make a difference).

Intel Mac :: Should Replace A Logic Board In My 2009 24" ?

May 27, 2012

My fan(s) started running at high speed and display was erratic. I diagnosed a thermal issue with the logic board, tried some home troubleshooting, then took it in to the genius bar. Fans checked out fine but logic board (and maybe video card) did not. Repair will be north of $600. Problem is, I love the 24" iMac and don't want the 27" and wouldn't want to go back to the 21".  Would it be dumb to fix a 3 year old iMac.

MacBook Pro :: Possibly Dead Pixel On LED Display

Mar 5, 2010

I think I may have a dead pixel in my MBP. I've got the October 2008 model, the LED display. Today I noticed a little grey-ish speck in the display. And trust me, it is IN it, not ON it. Believe me, I wouldn't be wasting anyone's time if this was something that could simply be cleaned off. It is not visible when the display is off; when that area is dark, the spot is visible as a lighter grey as compared to the surrounding area; when that area is white/light, it appears as a darker grey color compared to the surrounding color. Having said all that, I have still cleaned the screen thoroughly several times but to no avail. It is visible from the boot screen (white screen with the apple) and as long as the screen is on, but again it disappears when I turn it off. From all this, I gather that it is likely a dead pixel. I have reset the PRAM and of course that didn't help. I called Apple and they agreed with me, so I went ahead and set up an appointment for the Genius Bar (almost an hour away).

MacBook :: Battery Stops Charging After Sometime / Possibly Submerged In Water

Sep 2, 2009

I was on a long bus ride and woke up in the morning and noticed everything under my seat was wet including about two inches of one end of my black MacBook. It was in one of those ubiquitous neoprene cases and while not submerged in water it was pretty wet. Oh, and I guess I don't know if it was water or not, but it didn't have an obvious color, smell, etc.

Anyway, I took out the battery and left it out for a little over a day hoping it would dry. When I put it back in and opened it up it seemed everything was working well and I worked on it under battery power for a little while. It suddenly shut off with the battery around 23% (it usually dies at 8%, I don't know why) and when I plugged it in and started up again the battery showed it was charging for about 10 or 20 seconds then said "Not Charging" then I got the little battery with an 'X' in it meaning there is no battery connected.

If I take it out and put it back in again it does the same thing (says it's charging for a moment then ends up with the 'X'). The odd things is that the water was on the non-battery end of the computer, it was on the end with the CD drive, which seems to be working. Okay, right, so is there anything that can be done? Is this battery just a nice, black paperweight? Is there reason to believe that something other than the battery has a problem?

If this battery is toast, where is a good place to buy a new battery? Do official Apple resellers sell them? I'm in Argentina right now and I don't think they have real Apple stores.

MacBook :: Hear And Feel Clicking (Possibly Hard Drive)

May 4, 2010

I have a 13" Late 2008 Al. Macbook, and something strange just happened. I was typing in Pages, when I started to hear and feel something clicking underneath my right palm. I recognized this as the hard drive, so I immediately shut down the computer. Tried restarting and heard the clicking again, so I held down the power button and force shut it down before it fully started up. Turned it around, removed the battery for a couple of seconds, then replaced it. Started up again, and the clicking disappeared; all my files are here as they were left.

When I view the card in disk utility the repair and verify disk are greyed out as the screen shot shows. It says it is a 33mb disk when it should be 4gb and the SMART status is not supported and Partition Map scheme says it is unformatted. The format should be FAT (I think).
