Mac Mini :: Discs Occasionally Accepted After Repeated Attempts
Sep 6, 2009
We have had a Mac Mini for a long time and are very happy with it. However, we have had a recurring problem with playing DVDs or CDs. Sometimes ago it started rejecting any disc. However repeated insertions of some particular discs would occasionally be accepted. We finally added an external DVD to the set up but would like to sort out the problem if we can.
Today I tried to upload one of our music CDs into ITunes and tried the internal player. It recognised the disc as a music disc but would only upload it a 1x where the extenl will copy at up to 6-7 times. We have just this week upgraded from Tiger to Snow Leopard - however, the problem existed with Tiger for the last 6 months or so.

I have a MBP1,1 completely updated and OS 10.6.4 is now experiencing repeated hanging sessions where the beach ball shows up for 20 seconds at a time. I tried repairing the disk and repairing permissions, both with the disc upon startup and just running OS X normally. However, each time I repair, the same 3 files are always fixed and a 4th file that was not being able to be repaired at all. I don't think it's RAM problem because Windows runs smoothly, but this issue is frustrating. Should I just reinstall OS X.

I have just brought back an external superdrive to my local Apple Store because it wouldn't physically swallow any disc. So I got a new one and back home ... same problem. I plugged it to my mac mini, my MacBook Pro, my 1st portable PC, my tower pc ... nothing. I made sure the second time that I didn't plug it to the same mac first (in case I had a faulty USB port which could destroy the superdrive). Plus it ejects CDs and DVDs fine if I insert one 3/4 into it. So the mechanism is working, but no matter what I do, it won't swallow any disc.

I am new to this forums and want to know if my dvd mini discs will fit into the dvr drive on an iMac. I also have an older Powerbook and would also like to know if the mini discs will fit also. I haven't tried this yet because I don't want to loose the discs or ruin my drives. I just bought a used iMac 20" widescreen and wanted to just put my mini discs from my camcorder into it without having to plug the unit in via hard wire.

I have a Mac mini running OSX 10.4.11 that I purchased second-hand. It did not come with the original install discs. I want to give it to my grandson now that I have a new i-Mac, but cannot figure out how to remove myself from the Admin position and substitute him.Â

I came home for vacation and decided to reformat my imac g5 to get a fresh start. I backed up all my files, took out my leopard retail box, and was ready to go when I opened up the box, and noticed no disc. I have no idea where it went.I have the install discs from the computer when i got it, but it only has 10.4, so id rather not use them. I have the install discs from my macbook pro with 10.5, but I am pretty sure it will not work.So does anyone have any suggestions? Should I just go ahead and install 10.4 until and then just install 10.5 when i find it? (i really hate doing this, I hate having more than one version of an os installed)

Gave my old G4 iBook, running Tiger, to a friend. Situation is:
1) She brings the iBook over, saying she can't install a new driver because it's stopped recognizing the password.
2) I confirmed this, and using the install disk, I successfully re-set the password for that machine's one and only account.
3) Now she says that the machine asks for her keychain password "every time I try to do anything, in any application" - and she says that neither the current password, nor the old one is accepted.
I've read similar threads, and I know I have to re-set one or more keychains. Which one(s)? How can I do this?

Technically this isn't my problem but my cousin's problem. He has a Macbook Pro and recently had to reinstall Mac OS X, from what I understand he used time machine to restore his files, settings, account, etc. And apparently now on login his password to his account is not accepted. He stated that he did not change the password from what it was before the reinstall of his OS.

Have a new credit card, trying to update the info and addresses and keep getting told my Visa card is unnacceptable in my region even though it's the same bank card, same address and same user for the past 5 years. Tried everything, even writing to technical support again with no reply in the last 3 months. So much for 24 hour responses.

Well, I'm trying to buy a MacBook Pro online, the $100 software and the 3 year guarantee and it says that my credit card information isn't accepted.  I called the credit card company 5 times and they said everything is fine. I retyped all the necessary information 3 times. Still the same result: credit card is not accepted. However, the $100 software is purchased but not the MacBook Pro nor the 3 year guarantee. This is extremely weird as to why one is purchased but not the others. Â

My son is using my old macbook pro 13-inch and he went to login using the correct security info but keeps getting denied. and clicking the question mark only leads to the computer recommending the very same password that he is using with no other options to request a change password option. the computer may still be running mountain lion, though possibly mavericks. definitely not yosemite.

My new iMac can't seem to read CD's. When I insert a CD, it attempts to read it for about 5-10 seconds, and then spits it out. This doesn't seem normal. Is there anything I can do other than send it in for a repair?

History: Computer has been occasionally failing to wake from sleep. Temporary solution is to force-shut down and restart.
Current Problem: Failed to wake, shut down, will not boot. Period. Screen remains blank, HD and optical-drive spin-up, boot light is faint.
Resetting PRAM and SMC, failed.
Boot from Leopard DVD, failed, now won't eject.
Verbose mode (cmd+v) failed.
Single-user mode, failed.

My Mac attempts to start up and automatically shuts down on it's own. It continues to start and stop for several minutes and finally boots up. Once it's up it works OK. I've had it in to the Mac store and they tell me it's probably the power supply, but after leaving it on all weekend it seemed to work OK so they didn't do anything. After I brought it home it is still acting in the same way. It's only on trying to start up that it cycles through the start - stop action. Once I turn it off it's the same problem on trying to start again. Does this sound like a power supply problem?

I've been having trouble logging into iChat. When I click the icon it makes the log in sound like 10 times and then an error pops up saying "Could not log in. You have attempted to log in too often in a short period of time. Wait a few minutes before trying to log in again." I haven't tried logging in like crazy and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I just got my [first] MacBook this week and I'm still learning.

Lately I've been having trouble with iChat. It says I'm online, but it shows other people that I know are online as offline. Other times, it goes into a rapid loop where it keeps signing in and out of AIM until AIM refuses anymore attempts.

We recently purchased a MacBook Air for a family member. She was using an old MacBook with Snow Leopard. Tried Migration Assistant, but after running overnight, the process hung with "less than a minute remaining." After waiting several hours, we decided to shut down both computers and start over. MacBook Air started up fine, and we were able to migrate from a Time Machine backup. No problems there. The old MacBook was greatly affected. The computer will not start up. The grey screen with the progress bar shows up on boot, but never moves beyond the spinning process circle. I tried booting from the OS install disk to use disk utility to repair it... but the machine seems to not accept the DVD and ejects it.Â
The only mode that I can boot into is single-user mode. I have tried using fsck to repair the disk, but even after many repeated attempts, it exits with "The volume could not be repaired." I think that this is an issue with the B-tree, which must have been damaged during the improper shut down during the migration. Are there any other options for recovering the computer? Again, this will not boot from the install disk, and the only mode that I can seem to access is single-user mode.Â

So after upgrading to a mbp as my main machine, I retired my old imac to the bedroom for media center duty. I've got things close to how I want them with front row and plex doing most of the dirty work. For my planned use, no keyboard or mouse are needed. A combo of the apple remote and snatch on my itouch are doing quite well. The problem is, if I turn the machine off, it sees no mouse or keyboard over usb, and attempts to find them over bluetooth. Does anyone know how I can get rid of this? I've tried just turning bluetooth off before shutdown, but this doesn't seem to solve it. This is REALLY annoying, as I'd prefer to keep the machine off more often rather than having is sleep all the time.

2. Replaced battery
3. Upgraded from Mountain Lion to Yosomite
4. Reset PRAM & SMCÂ
