I've been having trouble logging into iChat. When I click the icon it makes the log in sound like 10 times and then an error pops up saying "Could not log in. You have attempted to log in too often in a short period of time. Wait a few minutes before trying to log in again." I haven't tried logging in like crazy and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I just got my [first] MacBook this week and I'm still learning.
View 6 RepliesLately I've been having trouble with iChat. It says I'm online, but it shows other people that I know are online as offline. Other times, it goes into a rapid loop where it keeps signing in and out of AIM until AIM refuses anymore attempts.

Now I get this error. iChat can't communicate with the jabber account "@hotmail". The operation couldn't be completed. Operation timed out. I checked my password, and it is correct. I can check my Hotmail emails using those credentials. I didn't change the server settings as well.

Using the same wireless network I was able to video iChat with another Mac user in the house.
In the Linksys router I enabled the following Port Ranges:

In System Preferences > Sharing > Firewall I have "Allow all incoming connections" checked.
I will presume the problem is with the Linksys WRT54G but cannot figure out a solution.
Yesterday I changed the password to my keychain. Now every time I start up my MBP and start ichat it keeps asking for my keychain password. How to keep this from happening each time?

I have a couple of new users I've added to our directory recently. They are unable to connect to our internal jabber (iChat) server. Users that have connected previously are experiencing no difficulty. A quick overview of the layout of the system: two XServes, one is OD primary (aspen) the other is OD replica and iChat server (vail). I've modded some config files (long ago) to allow user IDs for jabber to be user@ourcompany.office instead of user@vail.ourcompany.office. It works quite nicely.
Excerpt from the logs shows a failed login attempt followed by a successful login attempt. Successful logins are happening from Messages (beta), iChat under Snow Leopard, and Pidgin under windows. Failing logins are all from iChat under Snow Leopard. Please ask questions, I'm happy to add any other pertinent data! View 3 Replies View RelatedOn Tuesday I was using my computer for several hours when a "Panic" error message appeared. I could not move the mouse or get the computer to respond so I restarted. At this point my computer would not turn back on, so I removed the battery pack and replaced it, it still did not turn on. I hadn't been doing anything except sitting in my room talking on ichat and browsing on safari, so naturally I was really confused how such a cataclysmic event occur that would cause my computer to not even restart. At this point I got on my PC downstairs and made an appointment with my local Apple store.
When I got to the store they told me at the genius bar that it had been a kernel error, and asked me a few general questions about its typical performance and whether anything had been out of the ordinary recently, it had not. Next the "genius" I was working with asked if I had been having battery issues, and I did not think I had been until he asked if it was typical for my computer to be "calculating remaining battery". My computer had been giving me that message periodically since I bought it, but I thought that was typical. That is exactly what I told him and then he said he thought it could be my Logic Board, but as long as I had not spilled anything on it the AppleCare would cover any repairs...........................
whenever I try to ichat with another macbook user, the vidio chat gets frozen at "starting" and has a send error report message.

My Login with a password and my housemate's user name (without a password).I was logged in when I opened the lid to receive the user and password prompt. Recently, it won't let me sign it. It just loads for 5 minutes or so then gives me a network timeout error. However, I am able to access the site on internet explorer using my PC.
I'm using the latest update (10.6.4) on a new 2.8 quad iMac. Tons of HD space left. I have started getting the 10810 error. I've posted this at Apple support, but no support yet. I've also read every thread I can find.1) Finder is crashed upon login. If I click on 'Relaunch' it does nothing.
I have reported it, but nothing has changed.
Clicking on 'ignore' makes it go away, but it reappears every time I power up my CPU.
AppleCare didn't even know what it meant either!
Any suggestions? What is "LOGINserver" anyway?

I logged onto my iMac today and checked for any updates. I found updates for iPhoto, Thunderbolt, Airport and I think Safari. After it downloaded the updates and installed them, it wanted to reboot. Upon clicking ok, it went to a grey screen while initializing the updates, or something to that effect. Then it said an unknown error occurred and press ok to reboot. I presses ok but nothing happened, the box disappeared and the blank grey screen remained.
So I rebooted and the logon screen came up. I put my password in, which was accepted and the iMac moved on to blank grey screen with the darker grey Apple symbol in the middle and the the 'thinking' wheel doing its little circling thing just below that. It's sits there like that and doesn't move to the desktop screen. I've tried rebooting but it stalls at the same point. It's running the latest version of X. It didn't come with any disks and I don't have Time Machine.

I am using ichat with my AIM account and it has worked fine. But yesterday it stopped logging me in. When I select available for my status I get a message saying "An unidentified AIM socket error has occurred". How do I fix this problem? I tried logging in using AIM on Windows Vista and it works fine so there is nothing wrong with my account. Also, I have deleted my aim account from ichat and re-addng it and I still get the same error.

History: Computer has been occasionally failing to wake from sleep. Temporary solution is to force-shut down and restart.
Current Problem: Failed to wake, shut down, will not boot. Period. Screen remains blank, HD and optical-drive spin-up, boot light is faint.
Resetting PRAM and SMC, failed.
Boot from Leopard DVD, failed, now won't eject.
Verbose mode (cmd+v) failed.
Single-user mode, failed.
I've been googling this for a bit, and I'm only seeing a single tutorial being copy pasted around from back on OSX 10.4. Since iChat has been updated several times since then, I'm not sure how viable the tutorial is.
I need to reinstall ichat after I uninstalled it from my 10.5.5 macbook (black) with OS X (panther). I do not have my cd's, lost them somewhere and I can't find any instructions online on how to reinstall my ichat without the CD.

Now I'd like to add an AIM account. When I click on "Get an iChat Account..." in the Account Setup window,It was my understanding that this signup gets you an AIM account, but it from the first line on the page, it seems to assume that you're using .Mac (even more oddly, since .Mac doesn't actually exist any longer).What am I missing here? Aren't AIM, MobileMe and .Mac accounts the same for purposes of iChat?

I have a MacBook with built in webcam, external webcam, and iChat. Next to everyone who has a Mac on iChat is the green box, but there is a phone icon rather than a video icon.
Video chats used to work, but suddenly they stopped. Clicking the green icon next to my name on top opens a box that days "My Build-in iSight" and I can see myself in that webcam, but can not make video chats. How can I fix this?
