OS X :: What Happens To People That Pirate Mac Software And Get Caught?
Feb 6, 2008
I'm just too curious about what ever happens to the freakin pirates that gets the illegal version or mac os like leopard. What happens to them when they install it and it gets found out? Does the computer not work anymore or what?
With Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard entering the final stretch of development, overzealous Apple advocates are turning to discussion boards and file sharing websites to show off image and video captures taken from the next generation OS, most recently highlighting features such as simplified security preferences, enhanced searching, QuickTime X's screen recording function and a new version of Image Capture.
On Monday, attention was drawn to a YouTube user's webpage brandishing over a half dozen Snow Leopard demonstration videos, five of which were subsequently removed by the user while another was yanked from the video sharing website after Apple waged a copyright claim. Since then, readers have pointed to a long-running thread over at the French-language MacGeneration website that's serving as yet another forum offering Snow Leopard-related discussion illustrated by numerous screenshots and videos.
QuickTime X Screen Recording
Readers are free to navigate the thread on their own, though AppleInsider has extracted a handful images showing off some features that have received limited coverage in the past or haven't been represented fully in imagery, such as the recently-reported screen recording options due to arrive as part of QuickTime X Player 1.0. Portions of the native recording interface can be seen in the alert below, which initiates a screen capture session and directs the user to a menu bar option to end a session.
Once a user has concluded a Screen Recording session, the following interface and options provide a means of saving and exporting movies files in different sizes and formats.
QuickTime X also offers options for publishing supported movie files to iTunes in one of three pre-set sizes. From iTunes, they can be synced with an iPhone, iPod, or Apple TV:
New Image Capture App
Also worth noting is that Image Capture has grown as an application to adopt a user interface that is more like iTunes and the Finder, with a sidebar for devices, main window for file info and a thin row of controls lining the bottom of the application.
Universal Keyboard Shortcuts
Preference panes are also showing a convergence of UI as shown in this screenshot of the new Keyboard & Mouse preference pane:
Advanced Security Options
As always, Apple takes Security seriously. At the same time, it doesn't want to intimidate less savvy users from taking advantage of all the Mac has to offer. The below example demonstrates a simplified and easy to manage option that helps keep users safe while on the net.
Chinese Handwriting Recognition
With the private release of the most recent Snow Leopard beta, Apple also informed developers about the addition of Chinese handwriting recognition support for Macs that include a multi-touch trackpad. Similar software was added to iPhone Software 2.0 a year ago, allowing users to draw Chinese symbols on their handset's touchscreen and then select matching symbols suggested by the iPhone Software. This feature can be seen in action for the first time in the below YouTube video:
Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard is expected to hit the market sometime this summer with a near finalized version now confirmed to make an appearance at Apple's annual developers conference during the second week of June.[ View this article at AppleInsider.com ]
When i start and work with Logic Pro, it freezes after a while and there is no other way, but to force shutdown.I searched for some crash reports but i couldn't find one so i made screenshots of the terminal..I read on the internet some people had the same problem but with other programs, so i'm pretty sure that "Logic Pro caught burning CPU" is the problem. I got this problem since Mavericks 10.9.3, didn't have this with Snow Lion.Â
I was at the best buy today playing with the MBA never really wanted one until today. The design is sexy and I've been thinking of buying a laptop for some time now.Problem is I already have a 64GB iPad, which i love to death and I'm on all the time. Basically I just use it to watch movies, play games, internet searching.nothing major.Do I need a MBA? No...Do I WANT one? YES!! Just trying to find a reasonable explanation to buy one
Well I want to look at my children's files but when I try it says that I don't have permission too look at them! I mean what more permission do you need then to be an Administrator?! Do I need to have Root access or something?!?!!!
So my parents just bought a 21.5" iMac which has replaced their aging PC that came with a CRT(!!). The first thing they noticed was that the resolution is too high. Obviously, lowering this makes everything blurry but of course, no such problem with the CRT where they had nice big text and icons.
Surely there must be a way around this? Some software solution perhaps? They've zoomed in with Safari but that doesn't help the rest of the system and is a real pain to do it for every individual app.
Its understandably difficult for them to understand why something so many years advanced of what they had, can't do something so simple as changing resolutions. I even had a hard time exaplaining that this was an LCD issue, and nothing to do with a mac.
so i was just wondering people's opinions on macbook pro with SSD, im thinking about getting a macbook pro but im not sure if i should get a 250 GB HDD or the 128GB SSD. it will be for college and i have a TB too (external HDD) so i dont think it will be too bad for me.. 128 does seem like a lot, and my desktop is the one that will get movies and all so yeah. so what do you think get a macbook pro with/ without SSD like what are the pros/cons of SSD? also should i get the Air instead?? i dont like the air's battery life though soo yeah..
when I use a pictclipping as part of my email signature...the image is not showing up when people get my emails...is this just a setting I need to change?
So I have a couple of friends who have the exact same first and last names. Is there a way to differentiate the two people in iPhoto while using their exact names? If not, I guess I'll have to resort to Joe Brown and Joe Brown2.
Why am I getting so many random emails through icloud from people I have never heard of. Its as if someone else has the exact same email as me. what is happenning?
1) I think when I was originally envisioning iPhoto '09, I thought Faces would automatically group everyone together and then I would just go to each grouping of a person and label them. After reading some of the threads, I see that this is not what happens. iPhoto scans your library and then you have to manually go through each photo and say this person is Adam, this person is Kate, etc. After you've manually entered enough people, the facial recognition software kicks in and it will start looking for people. This is where you confirm that the photo that's being suggested is the actual person. Is this how it works?
2) Does iPhoto every get "smart" enough to group persons together without me having to confirm or deny every time I add new photos of people? Or will I have to go through the 'confirm or deny' process every time?
3) As for Places, I have a 2G iPhone, so the location software is good, but not great. I've noticed Places puts down push-pins similar to the iPhone. Like the iPhone, can I manually move these push-pins to the correct location? For example, if the photo was taken in St. Louis and the push-pin was showing I was at the Gateway Arch, but I was actually Busch Stadium, could I select the push-pin and drag it from the Arch to Busch?
I would like to know if there is a way to allow people to put comments on your IWEB page for a mac.? I saw blog but that is whatever I want to type. I want there to be a small screen on the homepage of my site that lets people type in a comment.
dont know if it is a faulty apple adapter, shittily designed apple adapter or just a apple feature. MP 1.1 + 4870 = 30"ACD in dualdvi port and 20"ACD via MDP->DVI connector. No picture in osx or XP. Display just not detected. So,is the adapter broken (its new,so unpropable?), is the adapter a normal apple desing and doesnt work (more propable) or is it that the MDP is borked in MP 1.1 by apple (very propable)? Just checking out if I should return the adapter and get a thirdparty one or just forget it..
we have recently purchased Microsoft Office for the Mac and installed it on my wife's macbook, replacing an old version. The reason was that the old copy used to block her use of it in university due to it saying that their were other users using it at the same time. So we installed it, waiting for it to ask for a product key but it didn't at any time...? Consequently now when my wife tries to use it in uni the same problem occurs.
We have product keys coming out of our butt from the original box but no way of entering them. I have tried to 'register online' with windows but the website simply isn't working.
When I turn on my computer there are 4 people to choose from to sign in. One is my son who has moved out and the other is my ex boyfriend and I do not want their start up/sign in icons on this computer anymore.(the last 2 are me and my daughter who uses the computer.) Where do I go to remove the people who will no longer me using my computer?
Also, when I went to post this question, there was iMac Intel and iMac PPC and I do not know what that means and which one i have. Can you tell me what they mean and how to find out which one I have so I know where to correctly post in the future?
how you can call people from Skypeâ„¢ with no microphone, but only from speakers? My friend wants to know this, he apparently wants to use some soundboard, and if you call from your speakers, the person you are calling can only hear the soundboard but nothing else like background noise or anything.Â
He's been bugging me to find this out, lol. He has a MacBook Pro 15" OS X Lion.
I cant hear or see the other people when video chatting with skype, facebook video, messenger etc. it was working fine until it just stopped. I just moved house but have the same provider and still on the same account.
When I shut down my Mac today, it said 224 people were connected to it. I have file and printer sharing on, but my home router is secured with a password, so I don't know how that's possible. Even if my router was open, I don't have 224 people living close enough that they could all be on my home network. Was that a weird glitch, or is it something I should be concerned about? I know there have been some reports of malware popping up on Macs, so I'm wondering if my computer could be infected.
My wife and I have 3 email accounts between us (1 personal one each and a joint email for stuff like banks and bills etc.) When we first got an Imac I set all 3 accounts up in MacMail and ran 3 different inboxes which worked ok apart from the fact that when sending emails we would sometimes mistakenly send our emails from the wrong account (eg my wife would send something from my account or vice versa)
this isn't a huge problem and with a bit of concentration would not happen, however it was inconvenient and needless to say I was kicked out of Mail and had to seek refuge in a copy of Thunderbird. (which I just can't to seem to get along with)
Since then I have been trying to find a way for 2 people to co exist in mail without using 2 separate accounts on the mac (this is not an option as the wife won't have it!!)
Is there anyway to run 2 separate Mail programs in one account?
If we do end up having to share one version of mail does anyone having any tips on reducing the likelihood of sending emails from the wrong accounts?
i leave for long periods at work. I have to step away from my computer. And to be honest I don't trust anybody in my office. Is there an app for like that iphone that I can use to connect to my laptop at work to monitor the isight and listen into the mic without the green light going off?I would love to know if such an app exists or if theres a possible way to do this w/o people know my laptop is in surveillance mode.
I have been getting spam messages on Adium, not from random people but from the people i know and have as friends. They do not know that they are doing it and it just appears on my messages without them doing anything. Is this a virus/trojan thingy on my mac or would this be a problem on their end, if anyone has this problem or a solution then i would be very grateful to hear, i don't really want to delete them from my account as i want to talk to them in future.

After doing research, I found out that this is from people trying to login to my SSH and trying random passwords. Is there a way to ban their IP's after a few tries?
