Dec 27, 2010I'm kinda curious as to how fast handbrake would operate on a 12 core Mac Pro? (let's say with 16-32GB RAM) Let's say a 24 minute episode at 640x480 2.5mbps off of a DVD, normally takes about 24 minutes on a 13" 2.4 C2D MBP with 8GB RAM. how fast will the 12 core MP process that? if one day I should have $10K to throw around, I want to go buy a top of the line MP just to have one... It costs the same as an International Business class air ticket, but the MP will last several years while the ticket is only good for a 30 hour experience.

IMac :: Operate With Second 24inch Monitor
Sep 10, 2010My grandparents broke their 24in Imac's monitor and it needs a replacement, costing around 800+ dollars. I was wondering if it was possible to operate it with a second monitor and have that one be the main computers display. Is it as simple as connecting the second display or do I have to disconnect the internal monitor? I'm not worried of opening up the computer, its not like I can damage the screen edit: The Imac is out of warranty and is a 2007 or 2008 model. 2.4GHZ C2D 4GB Ram. OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Does Address Book Have Auto-capitalization Or Auto-fill Feature
Mar 31, 2012In a previous contact software program I have used for years, the first letter of names, streets, and cities, were automatically capitalized as I typed them in. Unfortunately, that software does not work under Lion and the developer is out of business. Because of that, I am trying to convert to Address Book. I can't find the ability to have that same thing happen in Address Book. Is there something I can turn on in Preferences or some other obscure window? My old contact software also automatically filled in cities, names, or states that I previously entered. Great time saver but doesn't seem to exist in Address Book.

Safari :: Deleting An Incorrect Auto-complete/auto-fill Entry
Jul 1, 2012I don't know if this is properly autofill or autocomplete - the two overlap too much anyway so I'm not wasting brain cells trying to come up with a distinction that makes sense to non-engineers. ANYWAY. Here's the point.
I'm on my bank website. My login is xtnjohnson -- just like here. Only I mistyped it once, so in autofill/autocomplete (whichever it is), I get a little drop-down showing two options: xtnjohnson or xtnjohson.
I want to delete only the second option. I recall at sometime finding a very simple way that involved highlighting the offending entry and hitting either control-delete, shift-delete, command-delete, or function-delete, only I can't seem to get any of those combinations to work. And of course I can't find the thread anymore.
The solution did *not* involve dealing with the autofill preferences in *any* way -- I've seen that option and it doesn't help (a) because there's no quick way to find the website where the problem is occurring (my list is long), (b) even when I go through my list, I don't see my bank's url, (c) the place for entering my login appears to be in something like JavaScript, so I'm not sure it'd be tracked in one of those lists, and (d) I don't know that this is properly an "autofill" problem anyway.

Jun 3, 2010This is a problem that's been bugging me now for a while: when I plug in my iPhone or even a measly Usb Flash drive into my Apple Keyboard's USB port, a message appears on my Mac's screen saying: "A USB device can't draw enough power to operate properly. If the device came with a power cord, plug it into an electrical outlet. Otherwise, connect the device to a USB port on your computer." Does anyone know why the Apple Keyboard has a weird indented USB connector?

Apr 4, 2012I am trying to recovery a file created in Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac. The file was lost after a power outage. In an attempt to recover the file, my first thought was to check for the file in the Microsoft AutoRecovery 2008 folder within my hardrive. However, the folder only contains a total of four files! Why? If my Microsoft Word is set up to auto save a document every 10 minutes...then how is it possible the folder could only contain 4 files? I am at a loss of how else to recover this file. I am currently attempting to do so with a free trial of Data Recovery Software to see if the file I lost even still exists, with no success so far.

If not, i was wondering if Apple could add this function. I have AP client, 3 hard disks and 3com gigabit switch connected to TC. It would be nice if TC could check the power status of UPS, and work with it.

Jan 28, 2010So i went and bought my first imac (2003 second hand for really cheap), which has osx 10.4.1 on it (tiger i presume) and came with no wires/keyboard/mouse. So im using a windows keyboard and a standard usb mouse. Anyway the damn thing has a username and password so im locked out and managed to get 4cd installation of tiger. It doesnt seem to autoboot from cd, held down c during restart and still it boots straight to the username password menu. Nov 23, 2008In windows, we can go to the folder options and choose "Apply to all folders" to apply the setting of a current folder to all other folders. I opened the finder, pressed the "windows" key and choose view > keep arranged by > kind.
It does arrange things by kind, but if i move or delete a folder, it does not auto arrange it again by kind. Can someone please elaborate upon this? How can I keep my folder auto arranged by kind?

Feb 13, 2009I have my iMac scheduled to shut down everyday at 12:30 am. Sometimes it will shut down and sometimes it won't. I've only had my iMac for about a month, but am I missing something here? Why won't it shut down automatically.
I had it scheduled to shut down at 12:30am, and I was already asleep. I woke up about 3am to get a glass of water and I checked my iMac and I was able to wake it up. What am I doing wrong, why won't it auto shut down?
