Nov 17, 2010Is there a way to auto accept IM's from people on your buddy list with iChat like you can with AIM? It's annoying have to click accept for every single chat.

View 3 RepliesI just set up an iChat account for the first time and it wont accept my password. Changed the password 3 times to confirm it matched and it still wont let me log on. I set up another account and it's the same thing with the password not being accepted. What's the deal? "The .Mac password you entered is not correct. If you forgot your password, you can reset at the .Mac website."

View 1 Replies View RelatedIn a previous contact software program I have used for years, the first letter of names, streets, and cities, were automatically capitalized as I typed them in. Unfortunately, that software does not work under Lion and the developer is out of business. Because of that, I am trying to convert to Address Book. I can't find the ability to have that same thing happen in Address Book. Is there something I can turn on in Preferences or some other obscure window? My old contact software also automatically filled in cities, names, or states that I previously entered. Great time saver but doesn't seem to exist in Address Book.

I don't know if this is properly autofill or autocomplete - the two overlap too much anyway so I'm not wasting brain cells trying to come up with a distinction that makes sense to non-engineers. ANYWAY. Here's the point.Â
I'm on my bank website. My login is xtnjohnson -- just like here. Only I mistyped it once, so in autofill/autocomplete (whichever it is), I get a little drop-down showing two options: xtnjohnson or xtnjohson. Â
I want to delete only the second option. I recall at sometime finding a very simple way that involved highlighting the offending entry and hitting either control-delete, shift-delete, command-delete, or function-delete, only I can't seem to get any of those combinations to work. And of course I can't find the thread anymore.Â
The solution did *not* involve dealing with the autofill preferences in *any* way -- I've seen that option and it doesn't help (a) because there's no quick way to find the website where the problem is occurring (my list is long), (b) even when I go through my list, I don't see my bank's url, (c) the place for entering my login appears to be in something like JavaScript, so I'm not sure it'd be tracked in one of those lists, and (d) I don't know that this is properly an "autofill" problem anyway.Â

I was away from my computer for a day and when I returned I had an IM from a Screen Name that has been harassing me for a couple of months. They keep trying to video chat me or IM me, but I never answer. When I returned to my computer this morning, there was an IM that I opened and was finally going to say something to the person, but when I opened it, there was a couple of messages saying that they have downloaded all of my information and passwords and files. I am going to attach a photo so you can see. It looks a little fishy. I called Apple and they have never seen it. There are no articles about anything like it on google. The persons SN is bolded which is odd since usually when iChat tells you if someone has signed off or on, the SN is not in bold. Also iChat never gives warning messages like these. I feel like it is some script for iChat that someone started using. If not and someone has in fact hacked my system, which I don't believe someone can do through iChat, can someone let me know what to do. Also if they hacked my system some other way, I don't see why iChat would warn me about it and not something else in the computer.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to recovery a file created in Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac. The file was lost after a power outage. In an attempt to recover the file, my first thought was to check for the file in the Microsoft AutoRecovery 2008 folder within my hardrive. However, the folder only contains a total of four files! Why? If my Microsoft Word is set up to auto save a document every 10 minutes...then how is it possible the folder could only contain 4 files? I am at a loss of how else to recover this file. I am currently attempting to do so with a free trial of Data Recovery Software to see if the file I lost even still exists, with no success so far.Â

I recently got a new macbook pro and with it came my .Mac account. It seems it continuously wont accept my password or my birthdate to retrieve my information since I first got my computer started. It has the option to send it to my .mac e-mail but I can't check it without the password. None of my mac os programs will start without it, and leapard wont install fully without it. I've e-mailed the help desk and they never got back to me. Has anyone else ever had this happen? I've ran out of options, would uninstalling mac os and reinstalling help at all? Or am I just screwed?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've just installed a clean SL. It's worked fine, but I'm trying to use Disk Utility and it won't let me erase another partition, verify disk permissions or anything! When I try to, it tells me to type my name and password, I do that, and it gives me ''You must type an administrators name and password to make changes to disk utility''. But I just gave it my name and password! I've tryed logging out, and it let me log back in and accepted me no worries, but it won't let me use disk utility or system preferences!
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a mid 2009 2.6 Ghz 15" macbook pro, and recently purchased two samsund ddr3 4gb 1600hz 204 pin RAM. I removed my two 2gb standard Ram from my macbook pro, and inserted the two 4gb Ram. When I turned the computer one it began using its 3 beep sequence as if the Ram fail, so I removed one 4gb Ram and reinserted a 2gb Ram and the computer started. It said I had total 6 gb ram. I am wonderind why It won't accept both of the 4gb Ram.

I just got off the phone with Apple support and I was told I should bring in my iMac to an apple store to get it checked out. However, I am EXTREMELY busy. So in the meantime I was wondering if anyone could help fix this issue: I have a brand new iMac literally purchased a month ago, 21.5", when I insert a disc it keeps it for about three seconds and pops it right out, the disc does not even register with my computer. Is there anyway to fix this without having to go all the way to the Apple store (I don't own a car).
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have inherited two PowerMac G4 450 MHz AGP machines for use at the non-profit arts organization that I help run. I believe these are either the "Sawtooth" configuration [URL] or the "Mystic" configuration [URL], probably the former.
They each came with two 128 MB DIMMs (256 MB RAM each), which is anemic of course, so I bought two DIMMs of 512 MB RAM of the same type, intending to add one to each machine. Same bus speed (133 MHz) and voltage configuration (contact edge indents) as the existing memory. There are 4 DIMM slots.
The DIMMs go into the slot just fine, but are not recognized by the system. It boots up as if they aren't there; there are no abnormal boot beeps or flashing power button. It just doesn't count them as existing in the RAM pool (per "About This Mac").
I did try both DIMMs all by themselves, separately in the first slot and together in the first two, and those boots failed with the warning beep, flashing power button, and no video.
I can take these back to the vendor (a trusted local whitebox shop) and have them test them, but is there something special that I need besides PC133 SDRAM?
I noticed that these new 512MBs are 16-chip DIMMs, and the existing 128MBs are 8-chip DIMMs. Does that matter? I vaguely recall that there's a difference between 16-chip and 8-chip.

I have iTunes 10.6.1 and had an iTunes account for years. I recently tried to buy a music album on iTunes and a window keeps asking for my login which I provided. My dvd player has suddenly stopped accepting discs. The disc only goes in half way before it hits something, almost like there was a disc already in there, but there isn't.The previous disc was ejected. Restarting doesn't change anything. It may be that the disc drive itself needs to be replaced, but that would involve a lot of hassle.

When I was using Panther I had no problem getting album covers (artwork) from Google but since upgrading to a new iMac and Snow Leopard iTunes won't accept artwork from any other source but the iTunes store. Is there a way around? Am I missing something? Not ALL artwork (albums / one hit wonders) are available through the iTunes store but I still would like their album-covers.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo, I ripped my DVD's of Battlestar Galactica to iTunes. I select them all and get info and change metadata. All of them change except for one file, that refuses to change. in this case, the album artwork won't change from the first frame of the video to the DVD case picture from Amazon.
I did them all at the same time and all in handbrake, but this one file just won't accept the change. I've checked the file permissions and it seems to be set correctly.
I have another ripped CD that no matter what I do, none of the songs will accept changes to their metadata.
Anyone seen this? Solutions? I tried deleting it from itunes and re-adding it but still no joy. At a loss?!
Today (in the latest version of Safari, of course) I repeatedly tried to fill out a captcha form, and later a password form on different website. Both forms went through fine in Firefox. Is this a common problem or will I have to experiment with deleting preferences, etc.?
Also: I tried a login at another website, which worked fine. But the captcha and the other password form refuse to work.
I'm wanting to copy some stuff onto a CD but when I insert the blank CD, it just pops it out (opens up). What gives?
