Does anyone know of an application to automaticly backup selection folders to an FTP location on a schedule or something of the sort? I get 1 GB of server space from my college, and I'd like to have some app that runs in the background to send my Documents folder up to the server once every two weeks. It would be rather handy.
I have been using time machine to regularly back up all my stuff. I don't really care for time machine nor will I ever use its special stuff. I simply want my information back up on a semi-regular basis (maybe once a day TOPS or once every few days). Time Machine backs up every hour and its incredibly annoying.
Anyone have any tips for stable, great AUTO back up software?
I am running FCP 10.1.3. I just started a new project and the auto backup feature continuously cycles every second or two. I can see this in the Background Tasks window. I do not know where to change this setting.
In a previous contact software program I have used for years, the first letter of names, streets, and cities, were automatically capitalized as I typed them in. Unfortunately, that software does not work under Lion and the developer is out of business. Because of that, I am trying to convert to Address Book. I can't find the ability to have that same thing happen in Address Book. Is there something I can turn on in Preferences or some other obscure window? My old contact software also automatically filled in cities, names, or states that I previously entered. Great time saver but doesn't seem to exist in Address Book.
I don't know if this is properly autofill or autocomplete - the two overlap too much anyway so I'm not wasting brain cells trying to come up with a distinction that makes sense to non-engineers. ANYWAY. Here's the point.
I'm on my bank website. My login is xtnjohnson -- just like here. Only I mistyped it once, so in autofill/autocomplete (whichever it is), I get a little drop-down showing two options: xtnjohnson or xtnjohson.
I want to delete only the second option. I recall at sometime finding a very simple way that involved highlighting the offending entry and hitting either control-delete, shift-delete, command-delete, or function-delete, only I can't seem to get any of those combinations to work. And of course I can't find the thread anymore.
The solution did *not* involve dealing with the autofill preferences in *any* way -- I've seen that option and it doesn't help (a) because there's no quick way to find the website where the problem is occurring (my list is long), (b) even when I go through my list, I don't see my bank's url, (c) the place for entering my login appears to be in something like JavaScript, so I'm not sure it'd be tracked in one of those lists, and (d) I don't know that this is properly an "autofill" problem anyway.
i back up about 725 gb if stuff and when i go to run my TM it tells me i only have 150 or so GB of space to back up the aforementioned 725gb.
Maybe i misunderstood TM, but cant i back up multiple days without using the same size of backup? i.e. i back up january 1st, december 1st and november 1st and it wont need 2.175 TB of space?
I've been trying to figure out how to set up the Entourage Mail app to auto-reply emails sent to my account. I'm going on vacation in like, a day, and want the app to automatically send a "out-of-office" reply. Anyone know how to do this?
My computer stopped connecting automatically to my airport. I have it as remembering the password, and the password is saved in keychains. In the network system preferences, I have it set as a preferred network. However, every time I wake my computer up or bring it back to the house it says it can't find any of my networks, and asks me to choose from a list (which contains my airport). When I click on it, the password is already there, and I tell it to remember this network, but it never does.
I would like to know if there is any way I can set Firefox to shut down my mac once all my downloads finish? I was able to find one plug-in for Firefox that will shut down the system after downloading but it's for Windows. One more question does anyone know if this is a feature in another browser?
what best app is there that auto downloads ID tag information to my music lybrary? i have tried SongGenie wery good app but laks information about what year, album nr, and genre.
Is there a way to make iTunes auto refresh its library? I have 2 MacBooks, a Mac Pro, and a Mac Mini for an HTPC with an external 2TB drive. I have all of our music on the external drive. Plex Media Server auto-refreshes wonderfully. Just looking for a script or workflow or app or service that will automatically add my new media in my iTunes Library to the iTunes program every 24 hours or so.
Does the Mail application have to be running or in the background for the Auto setting to function in getting my email? If so I guess it can't do this function like the iPhone? I am new to the Mac, so sorry if I sound uniformed.
Is there any way to stop and start Growl depending on if you're running a fullscreen game or playing video? I've tried doing a few searches on it but I can't find anything related to this topic. Does Growl already do this natively? I actually haven't quite had a situation where Adium Growl notifications interrupt my gaming but I think it could happen?
Lately, whenever i put let's say "macrumors" in the address bar of Safari without putting the www or the .com it will not resolve to the actual website. This happens with any URL i put without the www or .com
Pages just crashed on me and I lost 5 really important links which took hours to find. Why would they not put an auto save in? How hard can it be? Did they say something like our software doesn't crash so no auto save? I've found this thread http://www.macworld.com/forums/ubbth...08&Main=487629 But I really cant work out how to get this to work in automator, can someone help me at all, I put it in script editor and it does nothing for me when I run it.
Hopefully there will be a solution for this, as everything else I've posted since I took the plunge and bought a mac about 9 months ago has worked out great.
I use entourage for email, and want to include a LinkedIn image in my auto-signature, and have that hyperlink to my public linkedin profile (linkedin provides the html for this). However, I can't seem to get that to work...just like I can't get the link to my website to hyperlink.
Okay for FireFox or safari, I'm sorting through ALOT of digital pictures over the net and saving most of them, but rather then opening a page and click on the save image option is there an addon that will auto save all images, bmp, jpeg, tiff, png to a particular folder?
I found some older stuff like this but nothing for MAC.
I know i download all the pictures if they're being displayed in some form, is my computer doing this already and saving them some place I don't know about?
I have carpal tunnel syndrome that is aggravated by two much mouse clicking. On the PC there is software that will click the mouse automatically when you hover over something. Does anyone know of a mac version, I've been scouring the internet but cant find one.
I want to insert a date in the header and save it as a template. Just as what the templates shipped with Pages. I have no difficulty in inserting the date( from the date menu), and I saved it as a template. The question is that when I use the template next time, the date is the date that I created the template. While apple's template has no this kind of problem.
As the title asks, does such a program exist? Seems like a countless number of them are available for PC's, but I can't find one for my Mac's. I want something to click on the "Are you still listening?" pop-up in Pandora, Sirius, etc. I need something with a variable interval setting, and a loop function to repeat the action.
I just got a WD My Passport Essential but I'm not too fancy about their SmartWare software. It seems buggy and really unnecessary, when the only thing I want is the password protection (encryption) built-in to the drive. Unfortunately, when I connect the drive, I have to click on the virtual CD that then mounts and then launch "DriveUnlock" app to enter my password. I had hoped it would integrate with OS X better. Once password is entered, the disk will mount my drives. Anyway, is there a way I can get OS X to run that DriveUnlock app by itself when it sees the disk being connected? I doesn't help to make it run when the drives are mounted since they don't mount until after password is entered.
I've been using my Vixia HF200 HD camera for over a year, and for the same amount of time, I've been transferring the videos I recorded on it to my computer using iMovie. Unfortunately, for no apparent reason, iMovie isn't detecting my camera anymore. I have absolutely no idea what to do now.
I am trying to recovery a file created in Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac. The file was lost after a power outage. In an attempt to recover the file, my first thought was to check for the file in the Microsoft AutoRecovery 2008 folder within my hardrive. However, the folder only contains a total of four files! Why? If my Microsoft Word is set up to auto save a document every 10 minutes...then how is it possible the folder could only contain 4 files? I am at a loss of how else to recover this file. I am currently attempting to do so with a free trial of Data Recovery Software to see if the file I lost even still exists, with no success so far.
dose anyone know where the auto complete list is stored for mac mail?
So i can copy all the email address, ones i have typed into mail, across to my new setup. I have copied the com.apple.mail.plist and the mail folder/mail downloads into the right places. But i when i type a email it doesn't fill out the address for me.
Anyone know of an app to auto shut down your mac after it's done running a an iTunes playlist or letting another app run it's course? The Energy saver shut down schedule option is too rigid for me. Basically, I like to listen to a some music as I go to sleep and would love for my mac to shut itself down after it's finished with the playlist. If there isn't a program would anyone know of an applescript that would do that?
Is there a way via an add-on or setting to have Safari perform a "Reset Safari" when you close Safari and/or have "Private Browsing" enabled when you a launch Safari? Similar to the functionality that FireFox has where you can clean up automatically after your session using "Clear Private Data." In FireFox there is a preference for it but I didn't see anything like that in Safari - leading me to believe there might be a hack or add-on that will do it.
I am generally unimpressed with iLife 09 and I would like a refund, but I feel I also have to say a bit more. when connecting my Canon 820 IS, the photos get imported however when I select "Do not delete photos" iPhoto ignores this and deletes them from the camera. The database does not auto-compact even after removing imported photos - is of a monolithic size and is sucking the space from my time machine. As for the Places element - My preferences indicate this - we invented history and placenames - why on Earth would I want to see London, Arkansas as the first option - In fact I wager that millions-more people have seen London, England, UK than London, Arkansas. As for entering in the information for non-GPS chipped cameras - well that is simply a massive pain the in the hole. Your concept of event/location is hosed here. I want to mark on the map venues, in fact I can pinpoint on the map where something took place - but unless the god of Google maps has decided it exists, it seems everything taken within 20 miles of London, England, UK is in the same place. Canary Wharf was apparently in Hertfordshire. meh, I thought it's a beta and will oh hang on, no, it's a full product which cost me 85 quid.....
Every time I plug in my iPhone it causes iPhoto to autostart on my comp. I find this to be very annoying since I rarely upload photos from my phone. How do I turn this autostart off? I know there must be some way to do this through the registry.
