Mac Pro :: Rebooted After A Power Outage / Boot Drive Comes Up In Red
Jun 23, 2014
I rebooted after a power outage, which switched off my mac. Booting up it took a long time, maybe 30Â min. Since then every task takes a very long time eg. to open mail 3 min. I got disk utility to open, my boot drive comes up in red, I still havent got any info on it.

Install failedThe following install step failed: run preupgrade script for MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.3 Contact the software manufacturer for assistance Machine says it's 10.5.3 but as upgrade didn't complete and i get the error above then i think i need to deal with this now.

My 2007 intel imac lost power a while back and has been slow and somewhat erratic since that happened. My area suffered a power interuption that lasted a couple of minutes. When i turned the machine on the next day I used the disk utility to verify the disk and repaired permissions. the disk was fine but there were some permission errors which were repaired. After doing all that I found Finder could no longer search and find files, I could still access a file normaly but I could not search for a specific file or a group of files 9 .dmg for example)Firefox was very slow to fully load (30 seconds), one loaded the internet access was fine - 20 mbs or so. I downloaded the latest version of Firefox but it did no good.I had loaded Enequeue a week before the failure occured and that stopped woking. When i would click on a song in my library it would just hang.console error msg indicated the library had changed.A remote printer that had worked fine before the event was no longer reachable. I can see the printer but I can't print to it and if I try to modify the printer settings in CUPS I have to reload the printer driver on the remote machine (a 27" 2011 Imac) because that computer shows the printer as being paused.
All of this seems like it's either a permissions problem or a corrupt system file. I've done the following ton try and fix it Used Disk utility to verify the diskUse disk utility to repair disk permissionsDone a safe mode startReset all the plists. This older imac is used mostly to access my music files on the new Imac, I then use the optical audio output to feed an outboard DAC attached to me stereo in the living room. The new imac is backed up daily but this one is not because it really doesn't have any data on it. It seems that i should be able to fix this without reinstalling everything. Both machines are running OSX 10.6.8.Is there anything else i can try or should i just reformat the disk and reinstall OSX?

My power went out while I was using my iMac today. I was wondering if this could have caused any damage to the computer and if I have to run any utilities etc to investigate?

My iMac has no more sound after a power outage. I fear the soundchip is fried. I've tried all things like reparing permissions and verifying disk. I've read something about PRAM resetting?

I had a huge struggle installing Windows 7 through BootCamp. After the first time it rebooted during the installation process, it would not power up the screen (the computer and the setup were running, but the screen was off, not black, but off). I figured out that doing the rest of the installation through emulation software (I used VMWare Fusion) would work, and it did. Windows 7 should be fully installed, and works just fine if I boot it up through VMWare. But when I try to directly boot up from the Windows partition (not through VMWare), it shows me a flickering underscore ( _ ) for a while, then when it finally (if it does, sometimes it doesn't) goes to the window that says "Starting Windows", and you can see the logo coming up, it gives me a BSOD shortly after you can only see a fraction of the boot animation.

I'm currently out of the country doing field research and just the other night, there was a power outage here and now my ibook won't start up. Of course, being in a "third world" country, I wasn't able to invest in a good power surage protector.
Is my computer dead for good?
I have a lot of work that needs to be done and my computer is essential here. Anyway, I can rescue my computer? I press the power button and it does absolutely nothing.
What do you people think might be the problem and how much am I looking at to fix this?

well i've had my mac for about 5 months now, its a OS X 10.5.8 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 2 GB 1067MHz DDR3. I have an AX and it has worked flawlessly until about an hour ago. The power in my barracks went out, (im a Marine by the way) and all of a sudden i can't connect. I've tried resetting everything (i.e. the AX, the internet, and my mac) many times and nothing has worked. I've restarted my computer, the light is green on the AX, and my mac says im connected, but i can't get to the internet.

I put my i5 to sleep around midday, came home from work @ 4, and my iMac would not respond to keyboard, mouse, or power button mashing. My wife noted the power had gone out upon seeing the microwave clock. I checked the outlet (her Macbook was plugged into the other receptacle), and there's still power going to my machine.

My computer temporarily shutdown after a power outage. Something I was downloading on vuze went from 50% complete down to 0%. I presume vuze has lost it due to the crash. Any ideas on how I can get it to 'remember' again?

Yesterday evening there was a little lightening here abouts and the whole town lost power for around seven hours (I do not believe my home was struck, just the utility.) Upon manual restart, the date and time on my eMac had reverted to I think December 1977. Odd, because the PRAM battery is less than a year old, and they generally last me three to five years. Also now, when I start up my eMac, Airport asks me to choose a network to join and then asks me to enter a pass word. The Network Preference remains checked, "Remember any network this computer has joined." What ever could have happened, and how do I fix this?

1- I have a Mac mini server running in the basement on a flat screen TV, I use this as my home enertainment center. There are Apple TVs on the rest of the TV's in the house and I have home sharing onÂ
2- thunder storms have caused a power outageÂ
3- The library has been cleaned. The items i still had for down load are still down loading, but all my movies, songs, apps, ect are not listed. Â
4- I was always going to get around to backing it up, and didn't. Iknow, I knowÂ
I think all the items are still there, I tunes just can't find them. One of the two hard drives was approaching full and i was looking at relocating the itunes files to the second hard drive, BUT being a novice with computers I was stumbling and never got it done. I had looked into it and remember scrolling through the screens that had been listed in forums. How do i search for Itunes files? the program runs, but the data is not there? How do i teach Itunes to look where i dropped the files when and if i find them? Â

This is now the 4th time this has happened, but this time I have at least what I believe to be a cause. After a power outage of about 30 seconds this past thursday all of my printers attached to my imac have disappeared. Not only this, but when attempting to even press cmd p from any program that I could possibly print from slows down the system to a crawl, and eventually crashes. When going through system preferences the printers menu takes about 10 minutes even come up, and when it does, it's empty. When attempting to add a printer back the system once again slows to a halt eventually not responding. I've tried restarting multiple times, making a new user account (which worked for about 3 months the previous incident happened.) The only thing that has fully fixed this problem in the past was to re image the computer. Â

Will this have done any damage? The macbook pro was not powered up, but I had the the mac ac adapter plugged into a power strip with the magsafe adapter connected to the laptop, since I keep it plugged into ac all the time at my desk. The power strip was on while the power outage happened. I had the 3 prong extender cord of the magsafe plugged into the power strip. The power outage was due to a problem with some power lines in my neighborhood, not from a surge of overuse of fuses in my home, so my whole block was without power for about 2 hours.I did notice the power strip has always had 2 lights on; one red, not protected, & one green, grounded. The outlets in my room are only 2 prong, so I have a 2 to 3 prong adapter plugged into the wall that the power strip plugs into. I know this is not the best, but my house is a 1950's era house, & I do not have the knowledge & have safety concerns about trying to convert my bedroom outlets to 3 prong. I hope this did not cause damage to my macbook pro. Is there anything I need to do before powering the mac on to use the next time? besides convert my 2 prong outlet to 3 prong? will there be any static charge? this outage happened on a very hot & dry day in my area.

This is bad and old, and full of lessons about backing up. Anyway, internal boot drive crashed a week ago, and internal optical drive is busted. New external LaCie dvd burner works fine, but all attempts to start up from Tiger, Leopard and Diskwarrior installation disks just end up back in OS10.3 on my external LaCie FW drive. I've tried many things: unplugged everything; switched external LaCie to USB (wouldn't boot), unplugged power from internal optical drive so Mac wouldn't look there first (somebody suggested that). Attempts to start up installers from mounted DVDs result in installer screen with restart button, which, when clicked on, results in... you guessed it... boot back to dreaded 10.3 system. Night owls and westcoasters, I am up for hours yet, pulling hair.

I have a Mac G4 with two hard drives installed. The Main drive (original) is a 38.18 GB. The Second drive - (I added later) is a 149.05 GB. It has Mac OS X 10.4.11 installed. This Mac does not have a DVD drive, only CD-RW. Also, I have no critical data on here - I use it as a utility machine. It is in a network with an iMac and Windows XP machine.
My problem is that the Main drive is now "full" - only 483 MB available. I have uninstalled all "non-essential" applications but find it often gives me a "Your Startup Drive is Full" message.
How can I make the second drive the "main" - boot drive?
OR, and I thought I knew everything - can I install applications like iTunes, Adobe reader, Microsoft Office on the second drive and run them from there? - If so, how would I do that?

I added 2 sticks of 512 to my power mac g5 1.6. I had ahard time getting the computer to see the new ram, but finally was able to kinda get it working after zapping the pram. However my computer only saw these 2 sticks as 256, odd. So i attempted to troubleshoot the problem. I tried just installing the new ram, but the computer wouldnt boot. I tried a few different combos with the other 4 sticks i had, but nothing. I put the old memory back in, and still nothing. The power led looks to blink once every five seconds or so. I tried pressing the pmu reset button, but still the same out come. I also tried taking out the battery, nothing.

my old 2x2Ghz PM G5 (late2004) doesn't launch the boot sequence:
- when pushing power button, the blue led turn ON as long as I keep it pushed. If not pushed, it light off but yet the fan are running.
- no chime
- the fans turn on normally and the hard drive start a little to make noise once powered up.
- no video on display, the screen is black.
- the keyboard is not recognized anywhere I plug it. Â
- after a minute or two of non activity, the fans start to blow full speed (guess its a security measure for saving processor)Â
I ve done the reset of PMU several time (unplug the power cord then push the button at bottom of mother board)As i dont have access to keyboard, I can't start on Target mode to check if the HD is failing all.I ve removed all RAM extensions and left only one pair in slot 1 (J0), and changed the pair to avoid a faulty RAM.I only have a redlight on motherboard if I don t put back the glass panel.I ve check the voltage of the lithium battery, and yet its the original, the voltmeter says its 3,6V...Â

I've been hearing good things about the Spinpoint Drives and the 750GB ones are coming down in price. Here is my current setup1 - 500MB Drive - Leopard2 - 320MB Drive - Vista 643 - 500MB Drive - FAT32 (Shared, Irrelevant)I plan on replacing drives 1 and 2 with 750GB Spinpoint drives. My question is, can I boot off of the Leopard dvd and put in Drive 1 and NewDrive1 and just clone it, and do the same for Drive2 and NewDrive2 and clone it? And then go into Leopard and resize the HFS partition, and go into Vista and resize the NTFS partition?

last night I was using my computer just chatting with people, then all of the sudden it shuts off. Now it won't boot past the apple grey loading screen, and the fans slowly rev up till they are full boar, and I have to shut it off for them to stop. Â I've reset the PRAM, the SMU/PMU, tried holding alt and selecting my drive to boot to. None of these did anything, and didn't help at all. Â
I've heard it's a processer or logic board failure, or a HD failure, or something else. I'm ready to buy a new computer, I'm actually kind of sick of this one, I just want to know if I can fix it or not. I will probably take it to the apple store just to make sure, but maybe I can get an answer on here to know how to fix it or just to know that it's dead.Â

We have a Late 2006 xsrv which has always run fine. A while ago, it froze up and we rebooted, all still works fine however the Hard Drive no longer shows on the desktop, nor does it show up in the Finder or in Disk Utility. The server is running Raid 5 and when I look in Raid Utility everything shows as "Good", including the Volume, the Raid Set and the three drives. The strange thing is that everything is functioning fine on the server other than the above. The problem however is that the drive is not showing so backups cannot identify the source to run.

I am a Mac veteran and should know better but I went brain dead and rebooted system after an update while the repair permissions function was running in the background. Now my IMac will reboot and then start to load once I login but it hangs on the startup screen only showing my mouse arrow and the standard space startup background. It won't get to my desktop. Am I going to have to reinstall the system? I have everything backed up on Time Machine but I can't access it from this position. I have a project I have to finish tonight and now I'm really screwed if I can't get in it.

Installed Snow Leopard (retail box) onto a last-gen Aluminum MacBook Pro (2.6Ghz model). Did a time machine backup. Put in CD and upgraded. Rebooted with no peripherals plugged in and I get a kernel panic. There's only one user on this machine so I can't see if it's an account problem. I did the same thing on both my Macbook Air and 17" MacBook Pro.
Question: Do I have to now Reinstall Leopard (fresh)
Then update Snow Leopard
Then restore from Backup?
OR
Install Leopard
Recover from time machine backup
Then install Snow Leopard
I don't have all day and really don't want to screw up the process. Is there any thing else that might say why this kernel panic is happening?

My OS is Leopard 10.5.0. I updated my quicktime to 7.4.5, then when i rebooted, finder and spolight arent opening and crashing. Then, with appcleaner, i uinstalled QuickTime, but the problem continued. So i deleted the QTKit.framework, the console pointed it by the center of the error, so i did it. I also deleted the plists or something like that, reseted the pram and nothing, repaired permissions, verified disks and nothing!! I tryed to install the combo updater 10.5.2, but for some reason, while in the 'choose drive' part, the program freezes.I also tryed to install via terminal, but i got this:
Machine Specs:
