yesterday I moved all my files from my old MacBook Pro running SL to my new MBP 15,4. I used migration assistant and my time machine backup, that I had updated minutes before. Now I realized that some folders were not copied. Do you know where I can find a log regarding the moving process, so I can check which files were not moved?

the other day i wake up and open my macbook pro and immediately heard the fan making noises ive never heard it make before. i checked istat pro. the fans were going at 2000rpm. this is when i started to get concerned since i would never hear the fans at that speed before. the difference was day and night. it sounds like the one or both of the fans are hitting something. i always hear the noise when i start up or wake up from sleep and after a while (30 minutes to an hour) it usually goes away but has come back once without me turning off or putting the computer to sleep. its a refurbished less than a little more than a month ago. im hoping its just some dirt that made it through keyboard and will eventually go away because i dont want to send my machine in to get manhandled by apple repair. has anyone had something like this happen before?

Is there an average life cycle for my 2006 macbook? I just noticed I'm at 966 so if i had the new and improved built in batteries i would be about 34 cycles away from it dying. i've used the same battery since i first got it, am i nearing the end of my battery's life? oh yeah and istat says that it's got 78% health which seems pretty good but i dont know what health means

Long story short: My old Macbook Pro met an untimely death and I got a new one. I have the old harddrive, which I converted to an external harddrive so I could get all my old stuff off of it. I cannot seem to get the iTunes stuff off of there, though. It just isn't happening. Every time I try, it gives me the license agreement dialogue and then says some nonsense about a newer version of iTunes blahblahblah. I tried upgrading the new iTunes, but no dice.

I bought one LG flatron e2350V, and i'm trying to connect it to my macbook pro, it's connect through minidisplay port - dvi. When in system preferences if i choose use monitor it appears with great resolution, beautiful image. But if i choose "use identical image for both monitors" the resolution on the LG turns crap.
What should i do to have identical image (so i can have my macbookpro with lid closed) but have at the same time an awesome resolution?

Alright, I dont know why but suddenly just when I was about to goto bed I closed the lid and didnt hear the click. I was like wtf?! I looked at it and the little latch hadnt come down. Its kind of stuck up there. So again I try to close it, nothing. Tried it SEVERAL times and NOTHING! I got a magnet, got the little latch down and when I close it, it doesnt even go into the hole now! WTF?! It was working before I used it! I didnt drop it or anything! It just LITERALLY decided it didnt want to work. I bought this about 3-4 weeks ago and I leave for college on Saturday. Im going to the apple store I bought it from and Im raising hell if I need to. What do you guys think they can do for me tommorow when I go there? Is it an easy fix? I need it back to me ASAP. Do you think they can do that? I swear to god if they do some ghetto work like bending the latch Im going to raise hell there.

my MacBook runs like ****. It's constantly hot (CPU is always above 70*C), it can't get through one youtube video with out stuttering and overheating, it can't run my external sound card (Audio 4 DJ) in conjunction with anything else, and it can't play AVI files without freezing and bugging out. It's a 2nd gen Black MacBook with 2ghz processors, 2 gb of ram, and an upgraded WD 320 GB HD. Is this thing about to take a dump on me? Is the motherboard on its way out? Is there any chance of fixing this thing? It seems the only thing my computer is good for theses days is doing light browsing on the internet. (read light browsing = no flash and no html5.)

At least the newest one (a 6 month old 13" aluminum) is working OK. The two year old white Macbook just stopped operating for no reason again today. Gray screen. Tried to start with Snow Leopard discs. Nothing. Same issue as when I took it in a while back: [URL] Meanwhile, the 4 yr. old HP laptop that cost half the amount of the Macbook has never had a glitch or a repair.

So in a half-drunken stupor I dropped/threw my MBA on a mattress. The problem was that it was 'open', with the screen at its normal up position of maybe 135-degrees-or-so from the keyboard. Upon landing on the mattress, something in the hinge literally snapped (it sounded like a plasticky snap) and the screen went all the way backwards until it was flat - think 180 degree angle between keyboard and screen. Nothing seems to be malfunctioning yet. It's working just as before, except now there's a bigger tilt-back angle for the screen... I can tilt it back literally as much as I want. My question to you guys, assuming someone else has done this, is whether in the long run it's going to bite me in the ass. Because something definitely broke, I'm not sure whether what broke was 'important'.

just bought a new iMac. I have been using a MacBook and have faithfully backed up my hard drive using Time Machine.
I hooked up my external hard drive/time machine disk to the new iMac and selected this option in Migration Assistant. It transferred over my applications, but none of my photos, music, or documents transferred over. I did leave every checkbox checked for what to transfer.
Any idea what happened? How do I get my itunes music and iphotos transferred?

I have a corrupt quicktime camera file.I think its something as simple as it didn't get the end of file marker. It was recorded on a Contour camera that hit the end of the memory card.I can open the file and play about 75% of it through VLC (the end of the file crashes VLC), but no quicktime or other related programs I have will even try to open the file.

I looked at the size of my library - huge! It's huge becuase I ripped all my CD's to iTunes as aiff to maintain quality a while back, but now I figured it was time to convert to Apple Lossless. I went to the iTunes music folder, filtered by bitrate to select out all the 1411 Kb aiff files, selected all of them, and right clicked to convert to Apple Lossless. The process went smoothly enough, but when I checked, the conversion had stripped all the playlist assignments for every tune. I had a bunch of empty playlists, and a huge list in "recent imports", all piled in to this single huge file. I shouldn't have to go back and re-assign every tune to it's previous playlists just because I wanted to convert format. There must be a workaround that leaves them with the playlist designations before they were converted.

I have a 15" Powerbook G4 running 10.4.11 and I tried to install Leopard today (clean install) after restart and cd loading it brought the screen up to leopard with the space wallpaper and everything but then it said "Leopard can not be installed on this computer" so I shut down by holding down power button (there were no other options & cd wouldn't eject) when it turned back on I eject the CD and it starts up to my old wallpaper and it was back to Tiger again (Wheww!) but when it starts up now, the blinking "?"/Finder Face box blinks like 2x (like it can't find the OS) but it resumes to normal startup, everything is running fine and I was just concerned if I should be worried about this?

I used bootcamp to create a partition for installing Windows.
Everything worked fine and I still see the Windows partition on Mac OS.
But when I used Disk Management on the Windows and split its partition to 2 new partitions (C: and D: on Windows), they didn't show up on the Mac OS. The Mac OS still showed the Windows partition as one (which is created by bootcamp), not two.
I'm using Vista Ultimate with and Mac OS X 10.5.2.

I have two hard drives that are both 2 Terrabytes. One is the main and the other is the Time Machine backup.
I just accidentally overwrote a Flash FLA file, so I selected it and ran Time Machine. There is no backup of this file even though it's on the main hard drive and Time Machine has been backing up every hour for months.
In fact, if I select the folder and check out Time Machine, it doesn't have a backup of the entire folder all the way back to the first week of April. Yes, Time Machine is backing up, I didn't turn it off.
why Time Machine would arbitrarily decide to not back up this folder? What happens if it runs out of space on the backup hard drive?

I have a w7 dual-booted early 2010 macbook pro, and it has been exhibiting some really strange behavior for a while now. Basically, it crashes randomly. It doesn't give me the bluescreen in either mac or windows when this happens, it simply turns black, locks up, and often makes unpleasant sounds (anything from a clicking like a harddrive to bizzare sounding sound loops if I have been playing music). The weird thing is is that it doesn't seem to have a trigger. It can happen when I'm playing games, when I'm listening to music, or even when I have absolutely nothing running but Microsoft Word. It doesn't seem to have any dependancy on how long I have been using the computer, or even what time of day it is. It started out relatively infrequent--maybe once a month? But now it happens once a day, if not more.
I have still under my applecare agreement, and so I went ahead and sent it in to apple. They only had it for 24 hours before the sent it back with brand new memory... but this (maybe obviously?) didn't the problem at all--it crashed withen an hour of using it. I called apple back, and they said because sometimes it won't crash for many hours, they recommended I send it to an authorized repaire shop. I took it to the shop, and they wouldn't even look at it after I described my problem because, they said, "for problems like these, we never find solutions."
So now I'm stuck with a great laptop that runs BEAUTIFULLY.... except when it crashes. It's even still under applecare, but no one seems willing or capable of fixing it.
Does anyone have an advice? If apple can't find the problem, do I have grounds to ask for them to replace the whole MOBO, or even the whole computer? It's kind of a frustrating situation, because I bought applecare for this exact reason, but it doesn't seem to be doing me any good!
