Mac Pro :: Possible To Have Vista And OS X On Same Disk?
Mar 24, 2009
I am writing about my experiences making the switch to Mac whilst at the same time reviewing the Mac Pro 09 Quad 2.66 [URL] I have a couple of early problems which are described in a little more detail in the blog, but they are essentially this: 1. Is it possible to have both Vista and OSX on seperate (via bootcamp) partitions of the same disk? I am pretty sure it is, but Disk Utility is being very flakey in that its failing to create the second partition 2. Anyone have much experience getting standalone MTS files imported into iMovie 09? Probably the wrong forum to ask this question so ignore if you want But my brief research seems to suggest this is down to them being standalone mts files without the rest of the AVCHD directory structure that is present on the camera's hard disk

I just installed Vista on my Mac Pro (2.8 GHz Octo, 4 GB RAM, 8800 GT, 500 GB Caviar SE from WD) and I get 5.9's for everything but "Disk data transfer rate" - which is a 5.7. I know that is nothing to complain about, but I am just wondering what would earn a 5.9? Would it take a raptor to do that? Or just mine is not all that fast or something?

I'm trying to copy from my Vista hard drive to my Mac hard drive. I'm getting rid of the Vista machine.
I took out the hard drive from the Vista and put it in an external enclosure that is USB attached to my Mac. The Mac is unable to read the drive.
I thought that leopard was able to read NTFS file systems?
It acts as if it doesn't even understand the partition table format on the drive.
Is there a simple way to get this to work? Does NTFS-3G help reading the partition table?

Anyone with knowledge about what requirements a Vista install DVD/CD needs to meet to start an installation of Vista on a MacBook? I think I once heard you need a genuine Vista Install disk but that would prevent you from using Windows Vista Lite versions wouldn't it? Genuine windows vista takes up a lot of resources so there are good reasons to target Lite versions I guess.

I recently installed an LG GGC-H20L Blu-Ray and HD DVD drive into the second bay of my Mac Pro. This in itself was an absolute pain, as I had to enable AHCI for Windows Vista by using a modified mbr because I was using one of the ODD_SATA ports on the motherboard which Windows doesnt' "see" cause it runs in legacy mode. Everything there went completely fine, as now I am running in AHCI mode and I can see the LG drive and I can play CD's and regular DVD's via that drive in Windows Vista. However, the problem now is that when I insert a Blu-Ray or an HD DVD, Windows doesn't even recognize that there is media in the drive. It says there is no disc inside. When I boot in OS X, I can clearly see both the HD DVD and Blu_ray (although I can't play it or do anything with it).

I've followed the Bootcamp procedure correctly, but when I load my Vista Ultimate disk all I get is a blank screen. I've left it for a while, but even after half an hour still nothing.
What could the problem be, any tips?
It is a MacBook and 32 bit Vista if that if of use.

in an effort to load windows vista into my machine I partitioned my harddrive and put the windows installer into my machine. When I didn't have enough space to load (partitioned 5gbs, needed 6.9 or something) I was unable to remove the disk from the drive for 30 minutes! I looked up these types of forums and couldn't find a solution.

I tried to install Windows Vista (64bit) using Boot Camp. I get to the window where you select the disk partition you want to install Windows on, and there aren't any options. How can I get the newly created partition (the one I made with Boot Camp Setup Assistant before restarting) to show up on that list? Or, where do I find the "driver" that it requests instead?

I was trying to boot into Vista using the System Preferences "Startup Disk" pane , but it doesn't show the Vista Partition. I only can see network (doesn't work) and Mac Os. If I use option key during boot it does work normally.

I searched for a while trying to find the answer but did not find it. I just installed Vista Business via Bootcamp. I am not able to access the internet or anything. If I read the help stuff right I need to use the OSX install disk to install the drivers. The problem is, I don't have the install disk. Is there any other way to get the drivers? Or am I just missing something easier?

I have just upgraded my laptop to Windows Vista and I am beginning to get everything back onto the computer after a fresh install. I am now attempting to setting up the shared printers that I have on an eMac and an iMac (both are 10.4.9). I got the file sharing to work between all 3 computers. In XP, I used Bonjour and that was it. I used Bonjour and it found both printers, but it said that it could not find printer drivers. Does anyone know how to get this vista computer printing?

I have followed the instructions verbatim but after I choose the proper partition and click 'Format' (in the Vista setup), it still tells me "Windows is unable to find a system volume that meets its criteria for installation." Also it says "This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu." I have OS X installed on my 1st hard drive and I am trying to do this install on my 2nd hard drive.

I just bought a new 24" imac with 3.06GHz, 4GB memory, 1TB hard drive, and the ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB graphics processor i am still waiting for it to arrive but am wondering which MS software i should go with xp or vista? i have been reading around to see what other ppl are saying about vista but most ppl are running it on the older imacs or pc's and im seeing that some ppl love it and others dont... so im wondering if there is anyone out there who is running vista on the new imacs and which software would be best for my mac? im using windows only for gaming.
Depending on when my imac arrives i might just skip out on buying xp or vista and wait for windows 7. but if it comes soon i dont want to have to wait forever to get windows 7 before i can start playing games.

I just bought a Macbook Air, my first Mac! After a couple days figuring out how to navigate I am starting to get the hang of it. I want to network with my old Laptop PC to be able to see some files that I plan on keeping there. My question is this: Is it easier to set up a home network with Vista or XP?
I have Vista on my PC right now(and I've tried a few online guides to view my files but I can't get it to work) but I also have a copy of XP. I was thinking of wiping my hard drive on the PC and installing XP instead.

I have a Mac Mini running OS X 10.6.5, and a Windows Vista SP2 laptop. I sync my iPhone to the Mini, so all my photos and videos are saved there. Now, I want to be able to access the Mini from Vista on the laptop. Windows Sharing is on, and in Vista I select Run-> "192.168.1.100" (the IP address of the Mini), and an explorer window pops up asking me for a password. I enter the password for the administrator account I use to log in on the Mini, "user1" and "blahblah", where "user1" is the user ID, not the name associated with the account, i.e. "John Doe".

Has anyone tried installing x64 XP Pro SP2 using the new x64 drivers that shipped with the early 2008 Mac Pros?
I mainly want to know if the Apple keyboard mapping software works under x64 XP Pro SP2, being that all other drivers for a Mac Pro with x64 Windows can be found elsewhere if all else fails.

I'm wondering if I can just add another drive to my Mac Pro so that I can boot into OSX or XP or Vista? Can bootcamp handle more than one operating system or must I give up XP to have Vista? The windows bit is needed for games btw.

I know this question must have been answered before, but I'm a little lazy and don't want to search the forums tonight.
Anyway, I understand that Vista x64 is supported for current Mac Pros and MBPs, but is it also supported for the iMac? If its not, does anyone think that Apple will provide support in the next anticipated update?

I want to install 64-bit Vista on a 1st Generation Mac Pro. Should I expect any roadblocks as far as drivers go?
My video card is the 7300 GT and I am working with a standard aluminum Apple keyboard and a Microsoft mouse. The only thing I expect to have trouble with is my external iSight, but I don't really need that on the Windows side.

I was wondering if you can install a version of Windows Vista without the service pack one built into it. I am planning on getting the old Windows Vista Home Basic without the sp1 because it is cheaper to buy. Can I install that on the mac using bootcamp and then upgrade to sp1 after the installation?
