Under 10.6.8, it has been my habit (and pleasure) to open very wide terminal windows across as many as three displays in order to see the results of somewhat wide database queries without text wrapping, which affects readability and cuts the number of lines visible on the display window at once.
Under 10.9.3, when I adjust a window over towards another display so that the window would be on both displays, the window is "ghosted" until I let go of the drag bar, and if the move has not fully adjusted the window to land entirely on the display it is moving into, that half of the window promptly disappears.
Am I missing something about window positioning under Mavericks? Or, is there any way to regain the previous, multi-display-friendly window handling in Mavericks?
I've installed a Mac Mini (unibody) on a friend's boat and have the display output through the HDMI port througha distribution amp to 3 TVs. I have been having resolution difficulties though. When the display is output this way (split three ways) the resolution does not fit the displays, and there is no means to change it to a setting where it will fit the TVs. All TVs are full-HD and 1080p. The screen expands outside of the viewable area.
I have just bought an iMac G4 1GHz USB 2.0. When I run the system for more than about 15 mins the screen dies and goes a glorious multi coloured pattern that I cannot recover from. This is persistant from then on through reboots until I Zap the PRAM.
We are using MacMail for a pretty important area and, for reasons we cannot fathom, the 'loading' wheel continues to display (not the multi-coloured spinner) and yet we know that there is nothing to download.
If I have an event, starting on Friday, going on Saturday and and finishing Sunday, is it not possible to get this to show in the month view? I know it shows up in the weekly view, but it would be more helpful for me to have it up show up like this so I can get an overview of the month's forthcoming events. Or if it, are there any mods/addons etc that can enable this?
I'm thinking of making the jump and making my first Apple computer purchase. Time machine will be a welcome native backup solution, especially since I can do it over the network automatically. However, I've read that Time Machine naturally requires HFS+ formatted disks. But I will still have my Win7 laptop for gaming purposes, and of course that requires NTFS or FAT32 for writability. My question: Can I just take a TM compatible external drive, split it into two partitions, and then specify that each computer backup onto its own partition with its own file system?
What I have set up at the moment on my macbook is a single partition. One for my mac and a 20GB one for windows XP. What I want to do is create a new partition (by taking space out of the mac side) to create a new drive that my current windows partition can see (as I understand you cant make an existing partition bigger so that would be my solution) This is just for the existing windows drive to store files on. Is that possible and would the current windows disk see the new drive? I just need it to because I have run out of room on the windows side. I am running more programs than I thought I would need to!
I would like to install a game for windows on my recently new iMac. And I know how to boot windows and everything from experience with my macbook, but my problem is basically this; When I try to install multi-disc games on the windows OS, whenever I get to the point where I am supposed to "insert disc 2" the eject button on my keyboard will not work, is there any workaround for this, I am running XP... (and leopard on my iMac).
I've got a 2.4 GHz unibody MacBook running boot camp, and I'd like to have my new 24" LED Cinema Display set as the primary display so that, when I play games, the system recognizes that the resolution can, indeed, go higher than 1280x800.
However, when I right click and hit Properties to see desktop settings and stuff, right clicking on the Cinema Display shows that "Primary" is grayed out; it seems that I can not set it as the primary display.
Does anybody have a solution to this? I'd rather not use the nVIDIA settings to turn off the MB display and only use the LED display, as I'd like to be able to have AIM and a web browser open on the MB screen while I game on the LED display. I suppose if this is not possible under Dual View atm, I'll make do, but I figured I'd check first.
I've tried re-installing and updating every possible graphics related driver for Windows 7 i cannot for love or toffee get the bloody thing to even recognize my display. I am using a 26" tv as an external display, it works on OS X (very easily), windows XP (also very easily) and even Vista (also easily) and connecting through a DVI/HDMI connector. Why not windows 7? I've scoured the web for answers but can't find anything. Is anyone at least in the same boat as me? I really need this solved soon
I have installed Windows 7 on a Bootcamp partition and use VM Fusion as well, I am trying to get my Windows 7 desktop onto my Plasma TV when I have only Windows 7 booted.
I have a mini displayport to DVI adapter (not worried about sound right now) but when boot into Windows I cannot find the TV as a output setting.
It used to be with my old PC I would see the TV as a possible output and I could chose either Dualscreens or simply set the Plasma as the main display.
Could someone please help me achieve this with my iMac? Am I missing a driver or just missing a setting?
I have a Macbook pro and was running windows through bootcamp. When opening windows the display is upside down and is staying that way. Have tried to reboot with no luck.
I have read several reviews that say there are some usb external displays that don't work with mavericks. I really wan't to have another monitor besides the one out of my thunder bolt cable. I understand that i need to update my drive and that might be why the reviews are the way they are they did not update there drive.
when displaying with the Finder (MacOS X 10.9.3) the "Downloads Folder" content in list mode, It didn't display the small triangle in front of the folder which are present. In order to display the content of such a folder, I must double-click on the folder instead of clicking on the triangle as previous. way to get back to the right Finder display.
Suddenly my iMac's display is very dim - almost can't read the text. The display brightness keys <F2> and <F1> don't do anything any more. How can you adjust the screen brightness?

I am new to the Mac OS system and am facing a difficulty.I want to keep my macbook running through the night downloading the updates, however I want the display to be off. For this I have used apps like caffeine and no sleep and have also modified the system preferences. But still whenever I turn off my display, after some time the macbook goes to sleep and all my downloads and updates are paused.
Is there any workaround which allows me to turn off the display without letting the mac to go to sleep ??

I have just installed Maverick. Mail does not display my Smart Mailboxes. The contents of the boxes are there as long as I can remember what I named the boxes. It seems that I have to search for the Smart Boxes by name and then transfer all the contents into a new Smart Mailbox of the same name. How to recover the Smart Mailbox before I go through another self defined process?
When I open some, maybe a tenth of my incoming emails, they open in window much wider than my display, like twice display width. Probably happens on mail sent from Windows machines. No other time, in no other application, does anything display beyond normal screen width.
I have to scroll WAY OUT right to for example get to the reply button.
In Firefox or Chrome. My normal email is gmail. This is not in Apple Mail. This happens in Firefox or Chrome receiving in gmail.

I have a 21.5' iMac (Mid 2011) and a 27' iMac (late 2012) that I would love be able to use Target Display Mode. Unfortunately I have tried everything I could think of to get it to work. Here is a list of things that I have tried but have been unsuccessful at enable TDM:
1.) Completely restored Mac OS X 10.9.5 on the 21.5' iMac. Setting this machine up as new since it will be my external display.
2.) No firmware password enabled
3.) Reset PRAM on both machines
4.) Connected an Apple Keyboard w/ numeric keypad to the 21.5' iMac.
5.) Pressed CMD+F2 to enable TDM (no luck)
6.) Tried to enable 27' iMac as external display
Repeated same process with an 13in Macbook Air (Mid 2011) and got the same result. TDM will not work.
So I did some extra troubleshooting to try to target why TDM won't work.
I put my 21.5' iMac in target disk mode and connected it via thunderbolt with my 27' iMac but it doesn't see the 21.5' iMac while in target disk mode. I also tried the same process with my 13' MBA and I don't see the 21.5' iMac while in target disk mode.
I have a new Mac Pro (cylinder) running OSX Mavericks (10.9.4, up to date) which has an issue with power saving and disk I/O.
I have my display set to sleep after about 15 minutes of inactivity. I have turned off other power saver features. When this happens, any jobs I have running stop -- in this case, I was running a "dd" off a USB-mounted SD disk, which I wanted to run over night. Instead, it stopped and I had to restart it.
In a non SD-disk based Mac, this isn't a problem. The system just turns the display off and everything else runs.
