I would like to have OS X only mount my system (duh!) and Time Machine volume, but not my Bootcamp hard drive (system is in bay #1, Bootcamp in #2, Time Machine in #3) upon boot. Right now I simply right-click the Bootcamp volume and eject it, but is there any way to tell OS X to ignore that drive by default ?

But both mount up on start-up. I'd be nice to only have the boot drive mount only. So I dont accidently copy stuff to the clone/back up drive. And if I want to clone to it I can use Disk Utility to manually mount.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI've got a spare boot partition on one of my media drives so I could run diagnostics with it. I use the other partition constantly so it's always plugged into my computer. Now the problem is that whenever I use spotlight things from the backup boot clone will appear in my results and I can't open up the wrong copy. I don't want to put it on the spotlight privacy list because that just deletes the spotlight index on that clone.

Years ago there was a method of disabling the auto-mount feature of certain volumes, but I haven't the vaguest idea of how to do it now -- if in fact it can be done.

When I mount a DVD movie image, finder is auto opened for that image and I see the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders.
Is there a way to NOT have that finder window auto pop up every time?
I have my iTunes library hanging off an AEBS and if I start iTunes before mounting the disk on the AEBS, iTunes doesn't know where the library is and often reverts back to a default library location of user/music/itunes/itunesmusic. Is there any way to get this drive to mount automatically? Either through OS X or iTunes?

I realized that the superdrive from the macbook is not working properly. However, I need to install win XP via bootcamp for study issues. So, I created a Partition with Bootcamp on my macbook. Also, I have a windows desktop, and a windows XP CD. Here's my question. I know I can make an iso image with the win XP CD, then burn it on an external HD. Now, how can I make the macbook startup from the external HD and install from there?

It is honestly a pain to restart and hold down the Option key then choose windows. View 2 Replies View RelatedNoticed with a Win7 bootcamp install the SSD is not detected and scheduled disk defragmentation would best be turned off manually. You may also want to turn off hibernation to save from 2-4GB of disc space. A full install of Win7 takes about 10GB and runs excellent.

Unfortunately, that software does not work under Lion and the developer is out of business. Because of that, I am trying to convert to Address Book. I can't find the ability to have that same thing happen in Address Book. Is there something I can turn on in Preferences or some other obscure window? My old contact software also automatically filled in cities, names, or states that I previously entered. Great time saver but doesn't seem to exist in Address Book.

I don't know if this is properly autofill or autocomplete - the two overlap too much anyway so I'm not wasting brain cells trying to come up with a distinction that makes sense to non-engineers. ANYWAY. Here's the point.
I'm on my bank website. My login is xtnjohnson -- just like here. Only I mistyped it once, so in autofill/autocomplete (whichever it is), I get a little drop-down showing two options: xtnjohnson or xtnjohson.
I want to delete only the second option. I recall at sometime finding a very simple way that involved highlighting the offending entry and hitting either control-delete, shift-delete, command-delete, or function-delete, only I can't seem to get any of those combinations to work. And of course I can't find the thread anymore.
The solution did *not* involve dealing with the autofill preferences in *any* way -- I've seen that option and it doesn't help (a) because there's no quick way to find the website where the problem is occurring (my list is long), (b) even when I go through my list, I don't see my bank's url, (c) the place for entering my login appears to be in something like JavaScript, so I'm not sure it'd be tracked in one of those lists, and (d) I don't know that this is properly an "autofill" problem anyway.

I am trying to recovery a file created in Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac. The file was lost after a power outage. In an attempt to recover the file, my first thought was to check for the file in the Microsoft AutoRecovery 2008 folder within my hardrive. However, the folder only contains a total of four files! Why? If my Microsoft Word is set up to auto save a document every 10 minutes...then how is it possible the folder could only contain 4 files? I am at a loss of how else to recover this file. I am currently attempting to do so with a free trial of Data Recovery Software to see if the file I lost even still exists, with no success so far.

So i bought this new 500GB external HD but whenever i tried to put my files in it from my mac it wont allow me and say, "This item could not be moved because [harddrive] cannot be modified." however if i connect it to my windows it works fine.
P.S just one stupid question, why would a 500GB HD has less capacity such as 470 or so; and sometimes 8GB USB will only have 7.5 G etc.
Will my Mac be able to use this external?

However, this has given me an issue.
When I choose Sleep, the Macbook goes to sleep, and a few seconds after the the splitter will turn off my screen, speakers, Printer and all other accesories.
But as soon as this happens, The Mac wakes up again.
For simplicity at home I have one USB connected to the mac, that goes to the built in USB hub of the screen.
I tried to disconnect everything from the hub leaving only the hub connected.

Just bought an external harddrive for my MacBook, and my hope was to move my itunes library, photos, and a few essential documents to the external.

Also, after I have everything backed up, I was planning on restoring the computer to factory settings, and enjoy it being "like new" with all my content on harddrive. Is there a way to block wow.app? or better yet also be able to block all .App's from an external drive?
I really dont want to use parental controls and select the dozens of other "ok" apps.
im fairly convinced that this release is GM, so i finally took the plunge and installed and all went well. The only issue is when I loaded the desktop there was no icon on the desktop for my hard drive. It is seen as a boot volume and all seems fine except my desktop is blank. Is there a terminal command I can enter to reenable this icon, I created an alias but the arrow is driving me nuts
