View 20 RepliesA friend of mine is having some trouble with his younger brother erasing his history. He said it was the third time this week. He also says he doesn't really care to find out why, he just uses his history to return to sites often. Is there any way to prevent the primary user from erasing history or a way to recover deleted history? On Windows I remember a registry hack that greys out the erase history button. (He's using Safari).

View 1 Replies View Related+can You Guys Pls Explain Me... How Can I Transfer Eveyhing Exactly As Is It From Main Admin User To Another Admin User And Then Delete The Main Admin User...???
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have tried very hard to find the answer to my transferring question, but nowhere do I find my answer nor does Apple offer free help or even help by email.
So here is my issue. I want to transfer all my personal data from my HOME user account on my MacBook to a NEW user account on the SAME MacBook. The reason is that my Microsoft Office has a certain issue that is only solvable by starting up in a new user. So now I want to transfer all the personality, data, files, and all that from my home user to the new user on the same computer. After that, I want to delete the old Home user and make the new user the default home user account.
My screen appears discolored and distorted on one user and fine on another user.
View 2 Replies View RelatedJust got a new MacBook Pro, wanted to transfer my data from the old (2010) MBP. I've done this dozens of times before, but always manually, via Finder copies from external hard disks, etc. This time I decided to try the Official Method, using Migration Assistant. After numerous tries, I couldn't get Migration Assistant to work between the two MacBook Pros (both running 10.9.3), even with Apple's assistance. So I decided to try it with a MacBook running 10.6.8. It worked (though poorly; Migration Assistance needs some serious repair), which was useful (now I know that Migration Assistant works, and it's not a problem with the cabling I was using, but something in the old MBP).  But now I have two user accounts on my new MacBook Pro, which I don't want, plus the added account has now been made the primary account, with (some) data from the previously primary account moved to it.Â
So I want to delete the new, added, now primary user and return the MBP to its former, pristine state. So I have to go through all the data (fortunately there isn't much; both the new MBP and the MacBook were only recently set up) that's been moved from the original account to the added account, move it back to the original account, then delete the added account (if I can). This was somewhat complicated by the fact that the ~/Library folder is now invisible by default, but I figured that out. However, what I'm wondering now is, when the second, added account was made the primary account, did it assume all attributes of the former primary account, including its number? I know that user accounts in Mac OS have numbers, like 501, 502, etc.
How can I see the numbers of these two accounts? And if the added account is now number 501, when I delete it, how I can I restore the number 501 to the original account? Or perhaps I should just return the new MBP to its factory state, and start over? But I can't, since it didn't come with any Install DVDs (nor indeed, with an optical drive). (I've been out of touch with the Mac world for several years due to illness, am only now learning about the changes since 10.6, which I'd been using until less than a week ago.) I can wipe the MacBook Pro and reinstall 10.9.3, but that might lose some information specific to this computer that came with it.Â
I lost the install disk for my computer (Mac OS X 10.4, Tiger), and need to change my password (I forgot it ). I can only access single user mode. Is there any way that I can create an Administrator-Status user in Single User Mode? (NOTE: The "root" user isn't really an option since I enabled it a while ago and it has the same password as my current user, which I forgot...).

When I access the user/groups window I can unlock the window to allow for changes. In order to delete a standard user you need to highlight the user you wish to delete and then click the minus sign in the bottom right hand corner. But, I cannot highlight the user I want to delete.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI purchased App for MacBook. It is alternative to lock screen.Â
I set password etc followed instructions (no need of lecture me) and it has locked me out of my MacBook and the password I set up does not work...Â
Im just wondering if there is a way to delete this App without having to log in as the only other account on my MacBook is Guest. I can't use my Mac at all with this app as it will not allow me to enter my account
I have been getting these messages below in the list of feedback that Disk Utility generates during a "Repair Disk Permissions" run for at least 3 years now (through several OS updates). I am currently running 10.6.8 for the past several months. Is there an easy/SAFE way to repait this USER issue? I don't know if it is causing me any problems, but obviously it is not what it should be. [code]

It is "unlocked". Every time I click it, it just stays unlocked and won't actually lock. For example, I can't lock it on the "Energy Saver" prefpane, but I can lock/unlock on the Accounts prefpane...

View 10 Replies View RelatedIs there any Terminal commands that will do this? I use Spotlight all the time - to load documents to loading applications. However, I hate how it makes any DVD's in my drive spin up. I never search DVD's, so turning this off wouldn't be an issue.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI would like to connect one of those Master/Slave Powersplitters to my Macbook Pro when I'm at home.
However, this has given me an issue.
When I choose Sleep, the Macbook goes to sleep, and a few seconds after the the splitter will turn off my screen, speakers, Printer and all other accesories.
But as soon as this happens, The Mac wakes up again.
For simplicity at home I have one USB connected to the mac, that goes to the built in USB hub of the screen.
I tried to disconnect everything from the hub leaving only the hub connected.

View 3 Replies View Relatedhere at school (where i also work in the IT depo), people have been Playing WoW(even staff members) when they are not supposed to(which is anytime). We have been able to combat it on windows in the form of software restriction polices, but have no solution for the macs.
Is there a way to block wow.app? or better yet also be able to block all .App's from an external drive?
I really dont want to use parental controls and select the dozens of other "ok" apps.
If file sharing is enabled, then anyone can drop files into a user's "Drop Box" with write-only permissions. Is there any way to prevent overwriting here? Like if two users dropped different files with the same name, how do you keep both of them?

I know you can change admin passwords by just pressing the power button and command s... my brother always changes my password and I physically have to hide my computer so he won't hack it. I know people use firevault to protect files but I don't need to do that. Are there any settings I can change or software I can install to prevent hacking?

View 4 Replies View Relatedmake it go behind another window on which I click. It won't go back. Stays on top.
Windowshade lets me reduce it to just the title bar, but I'd like the window still open — and not minimized to the dock.
In the prefs I do find a box to check (or uncheck) for the miniplayer and videos, but nothing for the main window (unless I'm just duh, overlooking something—not unusual.)
Any pointers? I'm OK with Terminal, if anyone has the magic words there.
Normally I have my music stored on an external HD. When I sync my iPhone the music is synced with the content of the external drive. Were I not to have the drive turned on during the sync, iTunes would delete the music on my iPhone as it would sync the "no music" on my pc with the music on my iPhone. Now I am traveling and will be away from my external HD for about a month. I would like to add some apps to my iPhone but if I do a sync I will lose all that music until I can get back home. Not what I want to have happen. Is there any way to prevent iTunes from syncing the music, i.e. just letting what's there alone and syncing the rest of the content?

i'm the admin of a mac lab at my university. users use one specific user account - is there a way to prevent this user from opening .dmg files? people can run apps right from a mounted dmg and i've caught a couple of people trying to download torrents here. though they don't have permission to move an app into the applications folder, they can simply run it off the desktop.
