Feb 1, 2012I am having issues trying to run my adobe cs2 programs cause it says there is a disk error and will crash when I go to save something. All this occurred after I made my firmware update for the security as of tonight, and earlier in the daytime, it was functioning propperly.

OS X :: Keyboard Function Keys Messed Up
Dec 14, 2009all the normal keys on my mac keyboard worked fine on friday when at work and i come in today and they are all messed up. how do i get them back to there defaults? Example, f12 now goes to the desktop instead of actually increasing the volume and f11 is the dashboard instead of decreasing the volume, etc. I am not sure if an update or something got installed or what. I have tried going into keyboard under system preferences and restoring defaults but that didn't work. I also tried powering the keyboard off and on and still a no go. I am using the bluetooth keyboard and running snow leapord.

Oct 25, 2009My brother just got the new iMac but he wanted my wired keyboard with the num keys, so basically we switched. I gave him my extended wired keyboard and I took his wireless to use with my MBP 13in and LED CD. So here's the problem: All the function keys don't work properly. I went into System Preferences>Keyboard and I was able to reassign the brightness keys (F1 and F2), expose and dashboard (F3 and F4). The rest...is beyond me. If it helps, I got the 13 inch MBP the week it came out. I tired running new software updates but nothing seems to help. I also have Snow Leopard installed. edit: I also checked out Keyboard viewer and it keeps showing the extended keyboard layout

May 2, 2010I bought a new MacBook Pro i5 yesterday to replace my MBP LED (2.2Ghz). The function keys on the new MBP kinda suck. I really want the one that does "Show Desktop". If you go to keyboard layout, it says that F11, F12, etc., are assigned, but seems it completely ignores them. What the F? Even if I could change the expose button to show desktop, I'd be very happy. I know you can use the 4 finger swipe, but that doesn't help while trying to drag something from the desktop into mail.

Windows On Mac :: Parallels Affecting My Keyboard Eject Function?
Dec 2, 2010Not sure if this should be here but anyway. I am trying out Parallels to run Windows 7. I installed windows 7 on a partition of a second hard drive but couldn't get Windows to start up and finish set up so I went to parallels. Parallels is using the partition I created that contains Windows 7 of course. My problem is that I can't get my CD/DVD drive to eject when I press the eject button. This happens as soon as I launch parallels - from that point on the eject button has no effect. I installed parallels tools; I have sound and internet when using Windows but I have no way of ejecting the disk tray. Any suggestions. Is there an alternate command that can eject the tray like some other hot key or something? What am I missing?

I've managed to go in and reset the dashboard control / brightness using the keyboard pane in the system settings, but I can't seem to set the volume / media control buttons. Download those, restart your computer and WHAM you'll have a bluetooth ultra thin keyboard with functions buttons that actually work. THE ISSUE: For some reason Apple computers recognize the new Aluminum keyboard as the old white keyboard. I discovered this by turning on keyboard viewer and realizing that the keyboard represented on screen had a numpad while mine did not. Supposedly Snow Leopard has an update already which recognizes this, however, we have all found that to be false. Install the mouse update and it'll all work out.
Hardware :: Apple Wireless Keyboard Function Buttons Not Working
Jan 2, 2011I have an Apple Wireless Keyboards and have noticed a problem with it. So the wireless keyboard has the EXACT same layout as my MacBook keyboard, so I would assume it should function the same. You know how along the top there are lots of function buttons? Well none of those work like they should. Clicking any of the buttons from esc (very left) to the play/pause button doesn't do anything. From there, the forward button (>>) does what F3 should, the volume off button does something I'm not quite sure what it is the volume down button pushes everything off to the side of the screen (not sure what it's called ) and volume up opens my dashboard. So is this something completely wrong with my keyboard, or is it something weird that they all do that I don't know of?

Feb 4, 2008A few minutes ago I noticed that my MBA's keyboard was not lighting up as it's supposed to. A little experimenting and I found the solution (you may kick yourself, this is so simple):
The F5 key decreases keyboard brightness.
The F6 key increases keyboard brightness.
The icons on these two keys are the clue.

Jul 1, 2009Another frustrating problem started occuring in the past two days with my apple wireless alum keyboard. I lose all the F button functions like volume up/down, mute, forward track reverse and eject. This occurs if i restart the comp or come put of hibernation (there still the problem with the mouse sometimes freezing when comin from hibernation) or when i switch from mac os to windows. This problem occurs in windows (XP). Im not sure what happened but i recall windows had an update a couple of days ago!!
I checked if there is an update to sort out the bluetooth issue but nothing new.nyone having the same problem. Really annoying to shutdown and turn on the comp again just to get the buttons working again. Comp is iMac 24" Alum 2007 sep build.

Now my volume controls and other features on the F1 - F12 Keys do not work.Went into Keyboard Preferences and selected and deselected the [ ] Use All F1, F2, F3 keys as standard function keys. Regardless of the setting, the volume controls do not work. Even when holding down the [Fn] Key. I can adjust volume with the mouse ( new Magic Mouse ) using the control on the menu bar.

I also downloaded spark v. 2.1.1 which has enabled me to change the functions of Fkeys to enable to play, pause, etc... in itunes in accordance with the keyboard layout. However, there are two functions that I am having difficulty assigning which are the F1 and F2 keys which allow the decrease and increase of screen brightness. So that I can control my screen brightness using these keys.Â

Mac Pro :: Bluetooth Module - Keyboard Not Working Properly
Feb 23, 2009I have had my Mac Pro for a few years now, and I rewired the bluetooth module when I first got it. I then had Airport installed about 3 months ago, and had to rewire it again because the "geniuses" at Apple didn't know the wires were labeled incorrectly. I just moved my computer downstairs and my Apple Bluetooth keyboard is not working correctly. It lags, repeats letters, etc. Upstairs on one desk, it worked fine. Down here, on a different desk, It's acting up. My keyboard is on the left middle of the desk, and the computer is on the floor on the right side. Total distance is less than three feet, with a file drawer inbetween. It works if I put it in my lap, but not on the desk. I just opened it up to check the wires again, and they are tight, and right.

Jun 23, 2010I updated to 10.6.4 the other day on my mbp 17" 2.93 mid 2009 model the other day. Since, my computer has developed two problems. first and most annoying, the keyboard doesn't work properly anymore. Shift keys don't work, then they do work. One side doesn't then the other side does. option and command do the same thing. Is this a documented problem? I searched and saw it was prior to 10.6.4, but I never had any problems until this update. Also, when I shut my computer, instead of going to sleep now. It goes crazy, fans jack up to full speed and it gets super hot. Doesn't sleep at all. Funny enough before the update, when i closed the lid the computer would go to sleep and wouldn't wake up.

Nov 12, 2010I've been using a Moshi ClearGuard KB protector for a while but haven't been happy with the fact that it gets cloudy over time and requires frequent cleaning to restore. I bought the Marware keyboard protector shown here because it looks nice and shouldn't have the same issue with clouding. My only issue with it is that it doesn't fit properly over the enter and shift keys, so the wording on the protector itself is not lined up with the wording on the key below. Does anyone else own this protector? Does yours have the same issue? I'm trying to figure out whether mine is defective or if it's a design flaw.

Mar 14, 2012If I connect a external monitor and keyboard to my late 2011 Macbook Pro (running Lion) it starts up just fine. But if I try to start it up without these (or any other devices) attached, I get no display on the internal screen and the internal keyboard is ignored (the caps lock light doesn't light up when the key is pressed). However, I don't think it's a hardware issue, as a PRAM reset seems to work (I get the second chime) indicating that the keyboard is OK. And I get a second or so of grey screen before the screen goes black. I've tried resetting my SMC and my PRAM. The latter seemed to fix the problem once - but then it came back, and won't go away again this time. I've also tried starting in safe, single user, and verbose mode, but none of these seem to make any difference. I've been having some issues installing Windows (under both BootCamp and Parallels) but wouldn't have thought that these were related.
