Today, my mac freaked out on me twice. I was watching something via Quicktime and all of the sudden the screen went black and green and started going crazy like it was twitching or something. And I got this loud noise coming out of my speakers. My MacBook is about 3-4 years old.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI noticed in the past week that when I scroll through a webpage I can hear a clicking sound (similar to the one from the MM) coming out of my speakers? This also seems to happen when I scroll through my iTunes library but in this case it's a humming sound, when the scrolling stops so does the noise. I've tried muting the speakers but the sound is still there, has anyone else experience this before?
View 17 Replies View RelatedI just bought a pair of the Rokit 5 external speakers. When I plug them into a Mac Pro (Tower) I get a high-pitched hum from the speakers each time I try to play a sound. So if I go into System Preferences/Audio, and I try to play a sound, the high-pitch is heard as the sound plays, and for a second or two after, then it goes away, and is heard again each time I try to play a sound. Same with when I play something thru iTunes or any of my audio apps.
If do the exact same thing playing from a Macbook, I do not have that problem at all, the sound is nice and clear with no high-pitch sound.
I have the speakers plugged in using 1/4 inch jacks to an external sound card (MBox), and this audio card is plugged USB into the Mac.

first time i have ever come across. I have a Intel 2 MacBook Pro. There is no sound coming from the speakers even though it is not muted and the vol is turned to the max. There is sound coming if i plug headphones in the jack. Just noticed that there is a red light coming from where the headphone jack is...anyone have any idea how i can get my speakers to work again?

I've got pretty old MB that was bought back in 2007, and it's been working ok up until today. All of a sudden I can not boot it, the screen stays black. Whenever I turn it on the screen flashs for ~100ms and then remains black, at the same time the sleep mode light is on and off not gredually fading in and out like when it is in sleep mode but sharply. Safe boot didn't help, PRAM reset didn't help, booting into the firmware (CMD-OPT-O-F) didn't work as the screen stays black. . I can hear hard drive working but other then that I see no signs of life (even caps lock and num lock keys don't get highlighted when I press them)

Sometimes I lift and carefully move my 17-inch MBP a short distance to another flat surface without putting it to sleep mode, it starts making really loud mechanical noise when I put it down, so loud that people in the same room can hear the noise and I can feel vibrations too! What causes this? Where does this noise come from? Is my MBP defective?
View 3 Replies View RelatedHas anyone else had problems with an old G3 Pismo making an annoying squealing noise when plugged into a charger? There's a lot of noises mentioned in mac/apple forums but none of them relate to this one. Here's what it is not:
It's not coming from the screen or the fan or the speakers (it's under the keyboard). It's not low or slightly annoying (it is a loud squeal). It happens only when the power adaptor is plugged into the laptop.(it used to cease after I unplugged the power adaptor and plugged it back in three times; now that solution doesn't stop the noise anymore). It charges ok, and runs ok, scream or no-scream. It's quiet right now, but if I move the adaptor to another plug it will start again.
I was going to live with this, but today after an hour of operating quietly it just started again, and I hate to leave the house with this going.(it will scream whether the laptop is on or off. I have a really old battery and cannot replace it (I am currently staying in Mexico for the summer). Battery life is 45 min. I haven't tried pulling the battery out. That would be too easy.
This all started when I bought a replacement power adaptor (generic),after the original one melted down, but I could stop the screaming by unplugging/plugging it in again once or twice. Then I bought an expensive iGo adaptor, and it does the same thing.

Situation: no sound out from speakers in admin and user account and newly created account. Headphones work, startup chimes work on speakers.
Go to Sound in Preferences and only shows Digital Out for output. Should show Internal Speakers. Ran Diskwarrior and Applejack and zapped pram. Took mac apart and confirmed speakers wired correctly which is verified by the start up chimes being audible on the internal speakers. tested all accounts and created new account all with the same results. Did search of Google and MacRumor. Found one unaswered post indicating same problem. Had same problem with another macbook pro, ran same steps, take apart, confirm wiring setup, Diskwarriored, applejacked and zapped pram and it fixed the problem. I'm not sure what else to try. Did check Audio Midi Setup util and it also did not see the internal speakers.
I recently got the Core i5 iMac. Basically, while I'm working doing everyday things like browsing, coding, iMovie etc...my screen just freezes and there are squares of white noise pixels scattered everywhere. I can see the mouse cursor as I move but the image is so distorted that I dont know what Im clicking. Restarting the machine fixes the problem.

I just bought an iMac G5 off ebay and today I tried to use the Tiger install dvd because the previous owner had deleted software like textedit, etc.
Anyway, I put the disc in and clicked on Install Mac OS X, then clicking restart. once the iMac shuts down and begins to restart, as it is on the grey screen you can hear the disc being read, then as the background goes a different shade of grey and the Apple logo appears, a minute or so passes and then the iMac begins making a lot of noise. I went away for 10 minutes, came back and it was still doing the same thing.
So I'm basically looking for help because I really want to erase and reinstall everything.
where the external speakers i am running through my Focusrite Saffire 6 USB interface have ceased producing any sound at all when linked in to the Macbook Pro . I have plugged them in elsewhere and they are working fine , so that is not the issue .
i had performed the software update on my Macbook pro to get OSX 10.9.3 . I have gone in to sound settings and made certain that both input and output are set to the Saffire interface . A signal is certainly coming through and sound can be recorded , so input is fine . I have also done this in both Garageband and Logic , to no avail . However this issue is effecting ALL sound in the sense that nothing is coming out at all from any source . No sound is coming out headphones when plugged in to the interface.
Thought it might be the interface but this literally happened as soon as i tried using my set up with the new OSX 10.9.3 software installed . Oh and i also get an error message whilst playing a track on garageband : "Error while trying to synchronize audio and midi...Sample rate 42212 recognized , check conflict between garage band and external device". My MacBook Pro won't turn on. When I turn it on, I can hear the motor whirring, but the screen stays black. I've tried leaving it off for an extended period, I've tried unplugging the charger, leaving it to charge for 24+ hours, taking the battery out, checked that the screen brightness wasn't accidentally turned down, everything!! It started about 2 weeks ago, since then it's turned on a couple of times, but when I stop using it and it goes into sleep mode, or I turn it off, it won't come back on again. Not sure what's wrong with it, but there's some urgent files I need on that computer! I also have an iMac, which I was hoping to transfer the files to, so I can send the laptop to be looked at. So, I have 2 questions...
1. What is most likely wrong with the laptop, and is it something I can fix so it will turn on again?
2. Is there a way to transfer the files from the laptop to an external HDD or my iMac even though the laptop has a black screen.
There is a black spot on top right of the screen on my imac 21 inch.

I have just noticed a weird clicking noise coming from the left hand side of my macbook. It only clicks when the macbook is being moved about or a sudden movement occurs. I thought it might be the HDD motion sensor but since its coming from the left hand side it's concerning me slightly.
View 10 Replies View RelatedVery occasionally the screen on my iMac (early 08 24") goes blank and it makes an incredibly loud static sound that's independent of the volume control setting. The power then needs disconnecting to restart the machine. Haven't been able to tie it to any specific program. Apple Care asked I leave it on logged in on a new user account (at the time I originally thought it only happened in sleep mode, but have since discovered this is not the case).
It's happened maybe 3 or 4 times in the same number of months. I've only found one similar case on the net, with someone suggesting it was Safari 4 beta, which I've found not to be the case with mine. It's on extended warranty. I think there's something seriously wrong with it (it's already had the hard drive and power supply replaced).
There seems to be something wrong with my speakers. Every time I play a short sound like the "Funk" alert sound there this sound that comes from the speakers that sounds like a crunchy, crispy, muffled sound. Funny enough when I try to record the issue with GarageBand the issue goes away. To reproduce this issue I go to "System Preferences" and to "Sound" and play the alert sounds.

I just began hearing a metallic "plink" noise every few minutes or so. Its not a click or a tick but more like a hollow plink. It comes at random intervals but sounds like it may be coming when the hard drive(?) or something inside the machine spins.
View 24 Replies View RelatedI bought a MBP 15 inch 2.66ghz brand new back in september. Since my purchase i have has several things that have been annoying the crap out of me.
Issues:
1. Clunk noise coming from HD, I have read some posts and installed Hdapm which reduced the sound a bit (i have the 320gb 5400rpm Fujitsu)
2. I believe becuz of the clunking (parking of the heads) causes my computer to stutter (mini freeze for like 1-2 secs) while using my MBP..
3. The battery used notify me that i had PLENTY of time to use even when i had below 50% battery life left, now (on Firmware 1.6) the battery tells me i usually have like 2:30mins of use when im at 85% or so battery strength left. and YES the screen is dimmed along with the keys.(i have calibrated the battery also)
I went back to 1.6 firmware due to the notion that various people have had better success on their harddrives working "better" with stock, or aftermarket.
I am on a CLEAN install of Snow Leopard...
I have a 7 day old Macbook Pro 13" 2.26GHz and sometimes when I open the screen I hear a click noise coming from the right side of the hinge it happens about half way open and some times when I pick it with the screen open it doesn't happen all the time it was doing it about 30 mins.
ago but as I type this its not doing it. Should I take it to the Apple store tomorrow or should I keep an eye on it and see what happens?

ok the other day i opened my mac book and i couldnt listen to my music through my speaks and i tried to turn up the music cuz maybe it was on mute but i got a pic like this (If u cant see it but its the speaker up full volume and the not allowed symbol the circle w/ the line through it) and then i discovered that there is a red light coming out from speaker jack and i could only use my sound through headphones or a jack through other speakers (like a sound system) but no only that i can only hear through the right side of the headphones unless i hold the cord a certain way

I'm using a Macbook pro OSX 10.4 Tiger, and have been experiencing a very bizarre, spooky, specter-like occurrence happening as of late when I watch streaming videos off common site such as Hulu. I'm using the newest version of Firefox and my roommates and I have wireless internet with various routers rigged sort of haphazardly throughout the apartment. Sometimes whenever my cellphone alarm goes off, or an incoming call comes in, the ringtone will come through the speakers of my computer! This takes place even if I'm on a different floor or in another room. It has even happened when my cellphone is put to silent! Can anyone explain or speculate why this is happening? It always freaks me out, and won't go away unless I close the video or browser.
View 1 Replies View RelatedLast week I put an extra hard drive into a powermac G4 - i didnt know if the hardrive was working or not, and I was asked to put both Harddrives in the one machine to find out if it was working. I did this and nothing happened. I changed the jumpers and still nothing happened.
the existing hardrive was being read but not the new one that I had put in, so I went to start up disk and changed the disk that I was starting up from to the other hardrive. It wouldnt boot, i took the hardrive out and tried to put the computer back to its original state and nothing happened. just a blank screen. I have tried pressing OPT and the hardrive appears but after this screen nothing happens. if I were to use the install disc, would this wipe the hard-drive at all?
