Mac Pro :: Adding Processor - Easy To Install?
Dec 6, 2008
I'm looking at buying a Mac Pro in the near future, but don't want to pay 2799.00. If I go with the single processor option can I add another processor down the road and is it easy to install?

I want to add 18 cd's in one folder to iTunes so I just dragged the folder into iTunes but iTunes took every song and placed it as an album instead of making it a compilation. Is there a way I can take all the songs of one cd and turn them into a compilation without having to "get info" every file? Cos now I have 300+ albums all with one song since the artists are all different. I know I can get the info per file and change it there but I don't wanna do that for all those songs.

Can it be done? Is there a second socket on the uni-processor Mac Pro model which will allow for the addition of a second processor to the board, to give a dual-processor machine? For instance, with the 3.33GHz Mac Pro -- could you add another identical 3.33GHz quad-core processor to a second socket?

You can currently get mac pro's in quad or octo core. The quad core models have one processor. Is it possible to buy a quad core today, and say 6 months from now, (if you can find the parts) add the 2nd processor? Is there a good place to find parts like that?

I wanted to do some research on this processor, do you guys know what is the processor model code for the iMac's processor?
Is it a mobile processor or a desktop processor?
What is the difference between this one and this one?

I have an iMac Power PC G5, OS X, version 10.5.8. I am running into problems of installing programs, downloads and even Mac OS X Snow Leopard, because they are requiring an Intel processor. I do not know if Intel can even be installed. Is it possible to install Intel on my iMac?

I have an iMac G5 (circa 2005) with a non intel processor, I recently purchased Snow Leopard to update this, however it advised I need an Intel Processor to install Snow Leopard. Is there a way of getting round this, the main reason being is I want to use the Magic Trackpad - but ive been told this will only run on Snow Leopard OSX? If anyone could answer this asap I would be grateful, today is the last day I can take back Snow Leopard and the Magic Trackpad to the Apple Store for a refund.

I am having some trouble with my Powerbook G4. I am pretty sure my hard drive is failing but want to get some other opinions before I start replacing stuff. Over the last couple days the HDD starting make strange noises (clicking a lot, along with other undescribale noises). I am wanting to hold off buying a MBP until after Leopard is out.
I am wondering a few things:
1. Is my diagnosis of bad HDD right?
2. How easy is it to replace the HDD with a new one (seems pretty easy reading instructions from ifixit.com)
3. Will any 2.5" ATA drive work?
4. I installed OS X on a firewire drive before the internal drive died but now it will not boot. Am I right in assuming once the new drive is in I can pop the Install disk in and install OS X?
5. Am I forgetting anything? Any tips?

9to5 suggests that installing OS X on an MSI Wind is both legal and easy. Their links to instructions for this machine aren't too clear. If it is legal, seems like a great Xmas gift for the 3 year-old who only knows OS X, but whom we would prefer be on her own machine.

I have a 13-year old son on an iBook running 10.4. Due to various internet and chat room issues which I won't go into here, I've had to add myself as an administrator on his computer and activate parental controls on his user account. His new goal in life now is to figure out how to circumvent them.
It seems like it shouldn't be possible . . . but then again, nothing is impossible. How concerned do I need to be?

According to System Profiler I have OpenGL version 1.5.10 installed on OS X. Is there a way to easily update this like with Direct X on Windows? I play some Diablo II which is a Mac game and it looks a bit more washed out than how it appears in Windows; wondering if an OpenGL update might help. It's up to 3.1 now.

I have PhotoShop on my Mac at the moment, but don't really do much with it - just the basics like cropping, resizing etc. Was thinking of swapping over to Pixelmator instead - it seems much easier to use with plenty of online tutorials.

My wife runs all her emails through entourage. This is a HUGE memory hog and just generally a big and bulky mail client. She has an 07 black macbook running snow leopard. Is there an easy way to simply import ALL her mail to a apple MAIL. I get that I would have to reconfigured where her email accounts dump their mail in the future. But I'm just wondering how I would get her THOUSANDS of emails over to MAIL, and if it is even possible.

My Macbook, 2007 vintage with osx 10.6.8 and an 80GB original HD is going to get a new brain....a 240 GB HD. I have the USB cable to connect the new HD to the laptop before swap of the drives. Is there an easy way to transfer the appropriate info from the old HD to the new SSD before the hardware swap?I have a backup plan to use my external backup drive to do this but that would seem rather cumbersome.

Basically, what I'm looking for is a program that has an easy-to-use WYSIWYG editor, but can create an extremely high-quality, media-rich site with Flash and HTML support. I need stuff like dynamic photo galleries, embedded flash movie players, flash jukeboxes, a content management system, a blog, etc. Maybe I'm trying to bite off more than I can chew, but our band needs this kind of site. We don't have the money to hire a professional web designer, either. I know there are already tons of threads on this, but none of them seem to help

This thread is geared towards MB/MBP owners, (specifically those with the late 2008) models. Its very easy to add stain-art to the cosmetics of any laptop. Drops of soup love to introduce themselves to the trackpad and rain drops may bounce off your jacket onto the screen on a wet day. If you're like me, you're heavily bothered by the slightest imperfection and hesitant to clean it, especially the screen.

Is there an easy way to access my iMac (that is at home), while I am on my PC while at work? Specifically, I want to be able to go to certain internet sites via my iMac's browser. I am a Corporate recruiter, and often need to access Facebook to get information on potential candidates. My company has, however, blocked facebook from being accessible. Therefore I am often taking candidate names home to check out. It would be so much easier if facebook were allowed at work, however, our IT group doesn't want everyone in the company to be able to access it (and a number of other sites - games, dating sites, etc). Anyhow, wondering if I can remotely access my IMac, then use the browser.
