Mac Pro :: 7300gt Unable To Display Opaque Bar?
Feb 21, 2008
I have a 2006 Mac Pro with the 7300gt card. The machine is fully updated with 10.5.2 and all other updates, but there is no "transparent menu bar" checkbox in the Desktop/Screensaver preference pane. I took screengrabs of each machine, the first is the imac (alu 2.4) with the ATI HD2600, the second is the Mac Pro with the 7300gt. Anyone know what gives with this?

I am on 10.5.4, also happened on 10.5.3, there should be a cehckbox under desktop on the system preferences to uncheck so i can get an opaque menu bar, right? the problem is there is nothing there, nor on the screensaver section,

Anyone else noticed on their air that menus are completely opaque. I know more recent OS revisions toned down the translucency slightly, but this is absolutely totally opaque. It is also not affected by whether or not the menu *bar* is translucent. Nor does it seem to be just a 10.5.6 thing - a Macbook sitting next to it with the same OS revision still has noticeably translucent menus. Is this just me or is it general? I could find elsewhere was people either complaining about *less* translucent menus in particular OS updates, which this isn't, or people misunderstanding and thinking the OP meant the menu *bar*, which I don't.

I purchased my 17" MacBook Pro last April and noticed a few months ago when cleaning the screen that there were about four small opaque spots in various sizes on the screen. I have always taken great care and never used anything other than a microfiber cloth moistened with a very small amount of water to clean the screen, so I am sure these aren't water spots, although that's what they look like. You only see them when the screen is dark and my MBP is in sleep mode, they aren't visible when it's up and running, so I'm not too majorly concerned, but it does bother me enough to question it. Too, they seem to have increased in number with time.

I'm running a MacPro 1.1 with a 7300GT. I have two 24" monitor plugged on each DVI output of the card. Eveything worked well in leopard. I tried Snow leopard with the same setup, and there is no way to have both monitor working. No signals reaches the second screen. Worst, once boot... If I run the "screen detection", both DVI signals are stopped. SL seems the both screen, I can see them in the system configuration. Both are stated as "connected", I can even "move" windows on the second screen but of course this is useless cause there is no signal. Anyone here having the same problem ? any idea to fix it?

I just bought a 4870 for my Mac Pro 1,1. Is there any advantage to keeping the 7300 GT in there, or disadvantage? It does give me a few more DVI outs if I add a third monitor, I guess. What about Aperture or other apps that use the video card - my guess is that it doesn't add anything, but I don't know.

At a random time months ago (I cant pinpoint what triggered it) certain windows started to make themselves half-opaque when inactive. They seem to be "cocoa" applications (though I'm not sure the exact definition of that). The windows that are effected are: Skype v2.8.0 (chat windows only, not main 'buddy list') iMovie / iPhoto... I think there are more, I can't figure out which though. I'll update. The windows that are (surprisingly) NOT effected are: Windows Live Messenger v7.0.2
Textedit
Microsoft Word 2007
Firefox v3.6
I have the program named "Afloat" and it seems to be inconsequential to the problem.

I just watched Tekzilla this week and saw how they posted hacks/fixes for people having their computer connected to HDTV. I know how to fix this in Windows but not sure how I can fix this in Apple. Hope someone has a similar fix. I currently have a Sharp 26in 1080i.

My Mac Pro 1,1 (two dual-core 3Ghz) has begun to have a blue screen flick on intermittently for a second or two. Sometimes the blue screen may not happen for over an hour and then it may happen a few times in a few minutes. I did a Safe Boot and reset the pram but there was no change. I was going to run Apple Hardware Test but after some Google searching it seems that Hardware Test probably won't spot the problem if it is the 7300GT video card I have in the machine - which is what I suspect is the problem. Based on doing a search of this forum and a Google search, it seems like the cheapest replacement I can get for the 7300GT is the ATI Radeon HD2600XT. (I don't do anything that needs a higher "power" video card.) Does anyone know if either one or both of these cards will work in my Mac Pro: [URL:...] If not, what cheap video card might you recommend for my Mac Pro 1,1 and where might be a good place to obtain it?

I hooked up my macbook pro to a mini display port to a dvi -> hdmi to my tv no problem. However, when I hooked up the mini display -> dell monitor, I get nothing. The screen is black. The weird thing is that my macbook pro recognizes that a second monitor is plugged in... it just won't display anything

My Macbook appearance now has darkened images with a sharp contrast around the image edges. When I startup, the images look fine until the top menu bar appears at the end. At that point, all images in the dock have a sharper contrast and a darker appearance around the edges. The blue folder colors only appear in the bottom half of folders on the finder, the top half of the folder being white. Photos appear to darken and colors are distorted. I have tried changing everything possible in system preferences from the appearance, the display, and the desktop screensaver

So i gave a friend of mine a hand with his 2009 27" i7 iMac by installing Windows 7 for him. Unfortunatly for some reason after you get through all the meat of the install and it restarts to finish off and ask for personal information but here's the problem. The display is showing nothing! You can hear the fans are on and booting into mac is fine but I can't get any farther with the Windows 7 installation because i can't see anything! I know the disc works because I installed from it the night before.

I use a 1920x1200 display on my mac mini, 1.66 GHz Core Duo, first revision.
After the update it seems like the mac tries to tread the monitor as if it were a tv.
In the display settings 1920x1080 is the highest resolution available, only framerates of 50 Hz (PAL) and 60 Hz (ntsc) is available (equal to what resolution you set the system).
On the display the desktop is shrinked down to about 90% of display size and has a slight error in aspect (circles are no circles anymore). Also the color profiles are terribly misinterprated, gamma is wrong and everything is overly colored as if it were windows.

Heres a pic
could someone point me in the right direction. I tried searching but it's hard to find anything because I don't know how one might describe this problem correctly.

I have a Vizio 22" HD monitor and it works great at 1680x1024 but don't know how to get those settings into my Macbook.
I have it hooked up via Mini-DVI to HDMI and the color is great, just wish I could get better settings. Seems like I am stuck with 1280x1024 else they are all interlaced and look like *****.

I have a macbook with leopard osx and use it frequently for presentations and so on. I have connected it to several monitors and projectors a hundred times and it has worked fine since last night.
Last night, I have connected my mac to a monitor with vga cable but it did not detect it and instead a constantly flickering blue screen came up and never went. I am sure the cables are fine.

So I have a Mac mini set up with Windows 7 only and then I have that connected to a 27" iMac with the miniDP cable.
At first, during installation, I have no issues; Windows is installed and drivers are done... reboot.
I start seeing artifacts, especially in dark areas (little sparkling pixels of colors--kind of like white noise except it's not everywhere and this is in color), also every few seconds the screen would flicker, and occasionally the screen would change to where the bottom of the be on top (hard to explain, but imagine a movie where the frame isn't centered and you can see the bottom of the previous frame and the top of the current one).
I figured it was an issue with the iMac, so I switched back to the iMac and there are no issues. I switch back to the Mac mini and screen is still messed up.

I bought the Mini Display Port to HDMI & HDMI to HDMI cables to hook my MacBook Air to my HDTV. I don't want mirroring. I want my HDTV to be a separate display. I have the mirroring not ticked but when I do my HDTV only shows the background of my OS and not the dock nor the menu bar/windows.

Certain websites I try to access are unable to display. They give me the "standard" cannot connect to the server error. [URL]. Other computers in the house operating on the same wireless connection can access these sites fine... so I think something is mis-configured on my machine somehow. I contacted my IP and they said everything is fine. My computer is a 24in. iMac 2.8GHz Intel Core Duo running Mac OS X 10.5.6
