Mac OS X Lion Server :: Proxy Authentication Required - Pops Up Randomly
Feb 29, 2012
I've recently joined/binded to our domain. All appears to be working as expected. Although one message keeps popping up in the finder at random moments. Doesn't seem related to anything that is being done at the time. It says Proxy authenication required. Authentication for HTTP proxy my.proxy.name  and has username and password to be filled in.Â
Where/what logs can be viewed to determine what program is wanting to get thru the proxy? I'm guessing it is an auto-update of something but I've turned everything off that I can find and it still is popping up. Hoping a log somewhere will tell me what is trying to gain access so I can turn off the attempt.Â
I working on an (let me say "enterprise") oddly problem. To connect to Internet our company make use of a http proxy, based on TrendMicro IWSS, configured to authenticate users with AD credential, forcing digest authentication with NTLM.
The loginout windows on safari reports "unencrypted" , but analyzing tcp/ip traffic with Wireshark, it really seems that NTLM has been used and so password is really crypted..
I keep getting a small triangle next to my e-mail inbox that indicates that I can't receive e-mail unless I accept an insecure authentication, checked in advanced in mail preferences. This problem seems to have arrived with my upgrade to Yosemite and it is causing e-mail from my family to be rejected and returned.
I have been reading through the Lion Server pages for Active Directory and came across the following question. Does the procedure listed in the URL below allow the users whose Macs are joined to the OS X server, to login with Active Directory credentials. Pass-through auth. for lack of a better term. [URL]...The procedure reads as if it is just joining the server to the domain and not configuring authentication.Â
my blue tooth keyboard and mouse have gone crazy there just acting up the mouse response differently the keyboard wont turn off the caps light , how can i trouble shoot my keyboard, i have changed the batteries
I have been running a Mac Mini OS X Server for last 3 months without a single error. I have 2 of them. Yesterday, I upgraded to 10.7.4 (from 10.7.3) and today, one of my servers has crashed twice. Both times, it has rebooted (no Monitor attached to Mac Mini). It is out of service for 10 mins or so. This concerns me, as it never rebooted before 10.7.4. Also, other Mac Mini OS X Server doesn't have an issue. I usually wait a few weeks before installing software updates on servers - but I decided to yesterday (Sunday), because I had some time, stupid me.

ok well im trying to use a proxy server in my browser because my dumb brother went on my accounts on some forums and posted stupid things and got me banned. i made a new account but i guess that forum must check your ip and or other info.
i would like to setup a proxy server so that my ip and any other info is hidden or shown as a different ip than my normal.
i can use safari and msn messenger fine just setting the web proxy to the address given to me by my school admin 192.168.0.3 with the port number 8081 that works great but my admin has told me that there is no mac proxy client so i cant use other services like ichat and IRC, he told me to try using SOCKS but ti dosen't work, any ideas?
I'm trying to get my leopard client to access sharepoints on my leopard server using kerberos authentication established at login. I'll list what I have done already bellow: - OD set up with a username (short and long) and password that is the same as that being used on the client laptop. - Client laptop is bound to the OD - modified /etc/authorization: <string>builtin:authenticate,privileged</string> to <string>builtin:krb5authnoverify,privileged</string>
When I log in it accepts my password and allows me into the laptop. The OD logs show that authentication to the server took place (I believe) (username and domain intentionally masked): Code: Feb 09 13:39:05 server.xxxx.priv krb5kdc[512](info): AS_REQ (7 etypes {18 17 16 23 1 3 2}) 10.0.1.121: NEEDED_PREAUTH: user@SERVER.xxxx.PRIV for krbtgt/SERVER.xxxx.PRIV@SERVER.xxxx.PRIV, Additional pre-authentication required Feb 09 13:39:05 server.xxxx.priv krb5kdc[512](info): AS_REQ (7 etypes {18 17 16 23 1 3 2}) 10.0.1.121: NEEDED_PREAUTH: user@SERVER.xxxx.PRIV for krbtgt/SERVER.xxxx.PRIV@SERVER.xxxx.PRIV, Additional pre-authentication required Feb 09 13:39:05 server.xxxx.priv krb5kdc[512](debug): handling authdata Feb 09 13:39:05 server.xxxx.priv krb5kdc[512](debug): handling authdata Feb 09 13:39:05 server.xxxx.priv krb5kdc[512](debug): .. .. ok Feb 09 13:39:05 server.xxxx.priv krb5kdc[512](debug): .. .. ok Feb 09 13:39:05 server.xxxx.priv krb5kdc[512](info): AS_REQ (7 etypes {18 17 16 23 1 3 2}) 10.0.1.121: ISSUE: authtime 1202564345, etypes {rep=16 tkt=16 ses=16}, user@SERVER.xxxx.PRIV for krbtgt/SERVER.xxxx.PRIV@SERVER.xxxx.PRIV Feb 09 13:39:05 server.xxxx.priv krb5kdc[512](info): AS_REQ (7 etypes {18 17 16 23 1 3 2}) 10.0.1.121: ISSUE: authtime 1202564345, etypes {rep=16 tkt=16 ses=16}, user@SERVER.xxxx.PRIV for krbtgt/SERVER.xxxx.PRIV@SERVER.xxxx.PRIV When I try to connect to an AFP sharepoint it again asks my to authenticate. If I authenticate once then I can access any other sharepoints with no problems, however, I'd like to be able to use the kerberos ticket I believe I have from the system login to do this AFP authentication.
I have a MACBOOK and I am facing some dramatic problem with web browsing THIS IS THE THING1)I use proxy server to use net on my macbook I gave proxy setting in Ethernet advance setting tab but its not working with safari my ip is 192.1.1.190 proxy server end setting are all ok but when I change my ip 192.1.1.190 to 192.1.1.191 or some else it is working.2)At the same time with IP 192.1.1.190 I use Firefox when I gave it the setting from Ethernet it wont work but when I use Firefox own setting for proxy it is working with same ip Safari not workingI thing that changing the IP all the time without knowing what is happing behind is not the thing
I was checking out various proxy servers with Firefox, trying to find a fast, reliable server. After testing one, my homepage [URL] came up as an "Apache Tomcat" page. This keeps happening even if I type [URL], it redirects to [URL], which displays the Apache Tomcat page. It says I have successfully set it up, despite never having even heard of it before. I have used the Terminal to check for recently modified files, and have looked through Firefox's preferences. Little Snitch reports no network connections by Firefox as it loads [URL] and displays the Tomcat page. I can still do google searches from the search bar in Firefox.
Below is a transcript from part of the page. I think that there's a UNIX file on my drive that has been modified somehow, but I haven't found it. If you're seeing this page via a web browser, it means you've setup Tomcat successfully. Congratulations! As you may have guessed by now, this is the default Tomcat home page. It can be found on the local filesystem at: $CATALINA_HOME/webapps/ROOT/index.html
where "$CATALINA_HOME" is the root of the Tomcat installation directory. If you're seeing this page, and you don't think you should be, then you're either a user who has arrived at new installation of Tomcat, or you're an administrator who hasn't got his/her setup quite right. Providing the latter is the case, please refer to the Tomcat Documentation for more detailed setup and administration information than is found in the INSTALL file.
I run a bunch of labs at a university and we have been recently forced to move to mac OSX 10.7 as the newer imacs will not boot to older systems. On the surface this all seems fine except for the annoying App Store issues. Apart from the bulk education purchase problem (ie. there is none) - there is a really annoying Bug with some kind of background update check, this window pops up at random: (I finally identified the culprit as the App Store)Â Clicking 'Cancel' only causes the window to pop-up again a minute or several seconds later.Yes the Students and Academics could put in their personal proxy details, however this seems like a major flaw as there is no way to turn it off.Â
In Text Edit, when I drag the little proxy icon (the little page symbol in the title bar next to the title) to a new location such as a folder or a disk, it creates an ALIAS of that document rather than moving or copying the actual document itself.  Why would I want to create an alias of the file on a disk? I NEVER want to do that!In the past, you could MOVE or COPY the document my dragging that proxy, depending on your desire. If you just dragged it (with no modifier keys) you moved the document. I can hold down the option key to COPY the file now but I see no way to simply MOVE the document to a different folder on my HD by dragging that proxy icon. First Apple removed the ability to drag a document to the trash by dragging the proxy, and now it eliminated the ability to move it to another folder. Apple has basically broken the functioning of that little proxy icon, which was a useful feature in the past. Is there a way to change it back?
When installing programs that requires me to provide admin privileges to install them, it fails. It always fails, its not just for one specifik program.
1. I click the .app, .pkg, .mpkg or whatever is about to be installed.
2. Click through the wizard that shows up (license, install location etc)
3. When it is time to install, a dialog window pops up. This is where i write my password and click OK.
4. The password is accepted and the dialog closes.
5. Now nothing happens, the program does not get installed.
(when the installer is just dragging the app to Applications, it works)

Using Apple Mail on Mac Pro , ver 10.7.4--have RCN as ISP Intermittently I receive a message saying "password rejected by pop server"-- I receive emails properly otherwise but out of nowhere this goes on for weeks. I had this problem on previous OS with Entourage. RCN said it was Apple. Apple said it was Entourage. Switched to Apple Mail now and getting same problem Apple says Under Pref-settings-advanced Use Authenticated Pop, instead of Password-but this doesn't work at all. RCN is useless, have no idea and blames apple. Applecare says " Oh, i don't know anything about AppleMail."Â

Since 10.7.4 (I'm guessing) my Safari extensions are removed whenever I login at my office location.
I recive an error stating:Â
"Safari can't use extension XYZ because the extension is no longer Valid"....The extension is then removed. Back home I can reinstall and use as normal.Â
As I mentioned this is a relative new "feature" My company uses proxy servers, to manage Internet access. My Computer is not managed by IT, they have no permissions or control over it.
This "feature" only occures when I'm in the office. All Extensions are removed!

Ive been looking for a couple of days for a fix for this. The issue im having is running parental controls on an account (any settings enabled/disabled, even with no web access permissions) and using a proxy (http, https, ftp) to connect to the internet. Connected as a standard/administrator user I can connect to the internet fine, but as soon as parental controls are enabled i cannot. I can't even connect to a local address without an error in the browser.Â
I have tried this on multiple lion computers with the same outcome. Â
The error im getting is:Â
Chrome: is no data received, no server data was sent.Error 324Â
Firefox is the default connection was reset errorÂ
And safari dosen't even give an error just a white screen. And external programs don't seem to work. The computer is 100% uptodate.
Everytime I'm trying to run a java based app, I get an error message saying that I have to install Java first but there's no internet connection - when there is one (I'm connected to wifi internet at all times and it's not like the connection disconnects when I try to open the app) Â I can't even access the Java settings because the same message pops up. I checked my browser settings (I use Chrome) and Java is enabled. Â
I have used iCal and now Calendar for many years. For every event, I choose to show "Message with Sound" for the alert. In the past few weeks, I noticed I no longer get any on-screen pop-up message. Not sure of the proper term for that, but my choice for each event is the same: "Message with Sound", so maybe it is called "message". I do get the sound alert, just am now missing the tiny even message window that used to pop up.Â
Here is an odd chain of events...
I looked in ~/Preferences to try trashing something, found only "com.apple.CalendarAgent.plist" as an obvious choice. I expected to find com.apple.Calendar.plist, but no such file. When I launched Calendar, it showed no change at all in any of my preference settings, and I do have several settings that are not default, such as "Start week on Monday" and "Alerts > Event: At time of event" instead of 15 minutes before.Â
After re-launching Calendar, I noticed a new file, "com.apple.Calendar.plist" appeared in ~/Preferences. I always use column view, so it isn't possible that i missed it before; this file was not there before. Nonetheless, the alert sounds with no message window issue continues. How to restore the alert window?
So, my 5 year old iMac's become outdated bec. I have Tiger and OSX 10.4.11.Mac's moving my email to "the cloud" and I cannot upgrade to Lion, which is required. Is buying a new computer my only option? Or, can this machine be manually upgraded with new parts?
We have a Mac Mini connected to our HDTV, pretty much for media server duty only. No mouse or keyboard conveniently located as a rule for this rig. We use the excellent Rowmote app (mouse, keyboard and romote control) on our iPhones to control it and it works great most of the time. However, sometimes you need a real keyboard. Since we usually have laptops handy, Screen Sharing seems like an obvious workaround. However, it ALWAYS (and when I say ALWAYS, I mean going back to 2005) asks for the name and password regardless of and inspite of checking and rechecking "Remember this password in my Keychain" about a thousand times since Screen sharing was first offered on the Mac OS, right up to 10.7.3.Â
This pervasive bad behavior can also be duplicated verbatim on our kid's media Mac Mini also. This is not a big thing, but it doesn't work, and hasn't worked for a very long time (in computer years). Does anyone know how to simply click on the Mac Minis, click the "Share Screen" button and well, share screens without constantly being asked to type in a name and password every single time?
I see that all the updates are visible as installed , and take up a large ammount of valuable disk space , is it necessary that all the updates be retained Inidviually on the disk ,IS IT POSSIBLE to remove the earlier updates and retain only the latest uodated
I have a server in our DMZ that connects to Active Directory LDAP server (non-ssl over 389) but no objects actually show up in the directory editor. I get a green light in my Network Account Server, but queries against LDAP return no results. My end goal is to be able to dictate to Profile Manager what LDAP groups are allowed to enroll devices. I tested on our internal network on a test server and get the same results. Anyone have any luck connecting a Lion Server to LDAP and actually being able to view and utilize users and groups?
Since updating to Lion, and subsequently to QuickTime 10.1, many movies that worked fine before won't open now. I get an error that says, "A required codec is not available." Two things make this even more frustrating:
1. Some movies of the same type still open just fine. I can't seem to find a pattern that links the ones that won't open. 2. The movies that won't open are still available to preview in Finder. If they will play in Finder, why not in QuickTime? Isn't it just a QickTime "plug-in" that plays them in the Finder?
