Mac Mini :: Memory Upgrade To 8GB Failed 2011?
Apr 4, 2012
I am upgrading to 8GB in myMac mini. I did the trouble shooting( command, option P,R) thing after getting 3 beeps but it didn't work. So I tried one 1GB plus one 4GB to total 5GB and it booted. Â
How can I get 8GB to work? Why does 5GB work and 8GB not work?Â

I am wondering how much memory I can upgrade with my MacBook Pro Late 2011. I went on Apple.com and they only offer up to 8GB of Ram for my model when I looked around and saw that on OWC ( MacSales.com) which is a very excellent reliable source for all your Apple Products. But, I was able to find a 16GB of Ram for my MacBook Pro Late 2011 and it said it can be used for my MacBook Pro.Basically Apple says its only up to 8GB of Ram while I see other people have 16GB of Ram for the same year as mine but the only difference is the the size of the computer. Anybody could give me a answer with this question as I dont want to buy the 16GB of Ram and it not working for my computer. url...

I run parallels a fair bit for research and my MBP is pretty slow. Took it to genius and he said to get a memory upgrade to 8GB. However, I'm reading everywhere that it can handle 16GB and the Crucial says it is compatible (only £100 ish for this so seems a pretty good deal). All well and good- but will this invalidate Apple care as the max Apple state it can handle is 8GB? Or.....is 8GB going to be enough anyway?Â

I have a mid 2010 Mac mini connected to my TV for use primarily for Internet radio and video and I also recently bought a mid 2011 Mac mini to replace my 2007 iMac after its LCD panel went south. The 2011 system report shows 1333 MHz DDR3 memory whereas the 2010 shows 1067 MHz DDR3 memory. I am thinking to upgrade the 2011 from 4 GB to 8 GB and swap out the 2 GB in the 2010 for the 4 GB from the 2011. Will the 1333 MHz DDR3 memory from the 2011 work in the 2010?

I have a question concerning memory upgrades on the Mac-Mini 1.83GHz C2D. Some specs state that the 2GBs of DDR2 PC5300 I currently have installed is the maximum memory that the system can handle. There are other sites, though, that state that the system can actually support up to a 4GB kit of the same memory. Has anyone out there had any experience with upgrading to 4GB

I have an older Mac Mini that came with 1GB RAM. Is it possible to take it to an Apple store and have them add an extra 1 GB? I can't upgrade to Lion without it.

I've just ordered an i5 Mac Mini and while it's destined to be used as a media-centre/ streamer connected to my TV via HDMI, initially I want to hook it up to the display on my 2011 iMac. Can one of you clever bods point me in the direction of what cable I need, and also what do I need to do to the iMac to make it behave as just a monitor? Is it just a matter of plugging in the cables and off I go?

I've had no issues with data backup on my external hard drive since I got my iMac over a year ago. There was always plenty of space to make daily backups and last time I looked my data was backed up from about January.
Yesterday my backup failed for the first time. The volume saved to disk is 223GB and the computer says there's not enough free memory for further backups (only about 9.5GB left). Going into Time Machine I can see I've lost all my backups before yesterday lunchtime.
I've been trying to identify what I might have done to cause this and the only thing I can come up with is data capture overload during the importing of video from a camcorder into iMovie and/or Final Cut Express. Is it possible there are stray files left over from my video editing that are clogging up my system? I've checked out my Final Cut Express Documents files but nothing here seems to add up to the huge amount of data which seems to be causing this problem. If this isn't it then I don't know where all this extra data has come from... How can I find out where this extra data is which is preventing Time Machine from backing up?
Is it possible there is some problem with Time Machine configuration? Right now the configuration window reads this:

3yr old black MacBook has bad memory slot. Will not boot with chip installed. Tried swapping chips and slot 1 or 2 and its the slot. So at least computer works. What are the odds 2nd slot will fail? Is that rare? Is it just a bad solder connection on main board for memory terminal? Or some tiny hidden board trace or other hard to find component?

I had a MBP(13-inch Mid 2012), and I upgraded my hard drive to a Sandisk Extrem II 256GB SSD by replacing the Optical Drive. But unfortunately, when I tried to start up, the following pics appeared, When I boot up the computer by pressing the power button, there were 3 unexpected things happened: the "Forbidden" icon showed, and a few seconds later, it changes to the "Apple" icon quickly and changes back to "Forbidden" immediately, this situation would repeat in about 10 minutes or more(up to 30 minutes or an hour, it depends). When the Apple icon showing with the loading indicator, after a long time waiting ,the system boot up successfully. the "Apple" icon came up, and the the loading indicator came also. what could I did is just waiting. the system boot up failed and an expected error occurred. something just like the situation One, but after the waiting, the Diagnostic model appeared or an common error known as "5-Country Languages". After I restart the mac , the alternative situation above repeated.

After installing 2 Corsair 4GB memory sticks (for a total of 12GB) my less than a year old IMac (mid-2011) started crashing like crazy. Everything indicated that they were installed properly, ie, About this Mac, Activity Monitor, etc...
As soon as I opened up any application or even a single browser window--CRASH.

I tried installing Leopard on my iBook G4 and it did not succeed. Now, my computer has a half-installed upgraded OS that doesn't work. I was told at the Apple Store that my computer would run better with Tiger anyway since my processor is not up to snuff to handle Leopard (my iBook is from Jan 2006) and that I should erase the hard disk and re-install Tiger.
So now I'm trying to reinstall Tiger but when I insert the disk, start up the computer holding down the C key, the start stalls at the apple logo gray screen with the little cog spinning around. Nothing happens after that.

Just upgraded to Mavericks and have all current updates - went to open mail and got the following message:Â
Mail failed to import.
An error occurred during the import. Make sure you have available space in your home folder and try again. Â
I have a pretty "clean" Macbook Air - not much on it so can't imagine I'm anywhere close to not having available space.

I just bought a new Mac Mini. I bought 4GB of RAM for it, and I understand there is a 1GB memory stick that I'll take out to put in the 4GB (2 x 2GB).
My question is: will that single 1GB memory stick fit into my friends iMac, which is a 20" white iMac 2.0ghz intel?

I'm looking to connect the Mini to my HDMI TV. I've heard of getting an adapter but im not sure which one to get. I've also heard of no audio output in these adapters too. I have a late 2009 Mini but the miniDVI port is being used so the miniDisplayPort is available. Can anyone post a link to a adapter that will work and is under $20.

The MBP has 2 RAM slots so my first question is whether the 4GB is 2x2GB or 1x4GB. I went to install Windows XP via bootcamp as I no longer have a windows XP machine, but still need windows XP for a few things work related. The install failed, the CD I used was kinda scratched and it missed a few of the files during installation so I skipped them (usually not an issue as they were driver files and such). Well the installed failed and cannot complete. Now I'm stuck in a vicious loop where it wants to try and complete the install every time it boots. I'm using a non-apple keyboard, when I try to hold down what would be the equivalent of command+option+O+F it does nothing and either starts the windows installation all over or tries to continue and finish the current install. No matter what, no luck getting the windows disk to eject.

I purchased Office 2008 for Mac from the Apple store at the end of August and as part of the Technology Guarantee, I'm eligible for a free upgrade to Office 2011. Purchase a qualifying Office 2008 for Mac product between Aug. 1, 2010, and Nov. 30, 2010, and you will be eligible to download Office for Mac 2011 at no additional cost* when it becomes available. My question is...should I do it? Does anyone have any experience or insight into Office 2011? Also...I'm not sure if this should be a determining factor, but my purchased copy of Office 2008 came with three product keys. Apparently if I upgrade to 2011, I only get one product key. Big deal?
