Oct 15, 2010I have a 2nd gen white Macbook (2,1) that my wife uses for only email and web search (I have moved on to Macbook Pro). Her Macbook is running very slowly. I've looked through these forums and found snippets of advice. I did the Mac Hardware Test, Extended Test, and it says nothing is wrong. There's 1mb RAM, a 2mb processor, and 59gb of storage left. She has only two programs at the most open at one time. I'm lost as to what's making it run slowly. Would bumping the RAM to 2mb

I'm looking to connect the Mini to my HDMI TV. I've heard of getting an adapter but im not sure which one to get. I've also heard of no audio output in these adapters too. I have a late 2009 Mini but the miniDVI port is being used so the miniDisplayPort is available. Can anyone post a link to a adapter that will work and is under $20.

Jun 11, 2012So I have a Mac Pro, quad core xeon with 12 GB of RAM.Â
I have noticed that when I watch videos, usually from YouTube but elsewhere also, the video is very choppy and the overally computer performance becomes laggy. I thought it was Flash, so I deleted flash and switched my youtube preferences to HTML 5. No change.Â
So I bust out activity monitor, and it doesn't seem to be a CPU issue, but I note that the VM size is 200-400 GB. That seems excessive. I've about 80 GB available free space on my startup drive; I can move some stuff to another drive to create more free space if that's the issue. But is that much VM normal in 10.7? It seems like a lot.

Mac Mini :: 2010 Mini Web Browsing Slow?
Jul 4, 2010I finally took plunge and grabbed a new mini. I have it wired directly to my airport and the web browsing is slow on it. For example I will go to engadget.com and it will only load half way and then just stop. I thought maybe my internet was going crazy but my windows desktop connected "right next to it on airport" loads instantly.
It does this on different web sites. I even did the safari reset but its same issue. Any suggestions on what I can do to trouble shoot? I dont want to take this thing back.
I was also wondering if there was a way to Mirror my display but with two different resolutions? I have googled this and cant find a straight answer at least not from anything posted in last couple years....
I have 1900x1200 on my Pc display and I have an HDMI going under house to My 65" Plasma which is 1900x1080
Any software tweaks I can do? This is a permanent setup with the ipad as the remote....
MacBook Pro :: Slow Performance After 8GB Memory Upgrade
Mar 6, 2012I just installed 8 GB Crucial memory for my 13" MacBook Pro (Late-2011; 2.8 Ghz). I immediately noticed scrolling on safari was jumpy or skipping. It is like this in other applications as well. Even zooming in/out of pdf's and using iphoto. I only purchased this laptop in Feb, and this bothers me. I tested using the Geekbench app. Every benchmark was about equal or much higher except for Processor Integer Performance, more specifically "Image Decompress multi-threaded scalar." It went from 138.3 down to 134.3 Mpixels/sec. Do I have lemon memory? I would almost rather go back to the 4 GB if this laggy performance is a continual issue. One of the things I love about Mac's is now becoming irritating.

Aug 26, 2009My internet is very slow! It's not the service as I have 2 other computers who run very fast on wireless. I just replaced the ethernet cable which didn't do anything. My computer itself isn't that slow although it isn't fast either. It's a imac, 10.5.7, 1.8 GHz PowerPC G5, memory 2GB DDR SDRAM.
I thought about switching it to wireless,I'm not sure as I don't see it on the top toolbar and I'm not sure how to set it up if my machine actually has it. Could my router be bad if my other computers are good?

Apr 27, 2008I recently bought a Power Mac G5 with 3 20" cinema displays, each with their own video card. I've since stopped using one and it sped up some. But even with the most simple tasks, it is hella slow and freezes sometimes. If I just have Firefox and iTunes open, it runs slow and the fans kick in overdrive. The main video card is an ATI Radeon x800 with 256 RAM and the other is a 9200 with 128 RAM. how to free up my RAM and speed it up?

Apr 24, 2012I have had terrible problems with my Mac Mini. Apple has replaced the hard drive twice, the SATA cable once and the optical drive once in the first year I've had it. After the latest installation of Lion, I have had repeated problems with the error "Your Mac OS x startup disk has no more space available for application memory." This is false -- I have less than half of my 500 GB in use and 4 GB of wired memory.Â
I believe that Safari is always running when I get this error. Also, I cannot cleanly quit Safari -- I always must force quit, b/c it hangs when I quit. The last time I got this message, Safari was using 1.26 GB of memory. Â
My System Memory report is all out of whack:Â
VM size: 221.25 GB
Page ins: 1.59 GB
Page outs: 40.15 GB
Swap used: 59 GBÂ
This is after only 1 or 2 days of uptime. I have just a couple of weeks left on my Apple Care and am desperate to know if this is hardware problem requiring my 5th trip to the Genius Bar or if this some kind of software problem that I can fix.Â
On this latest Lion install, I did a clean install with no settings or applications, and I killed extensions on Safari.Â

Jul 3, 2010The extra memory just came for my new Mac Min i, and I can definitely say that it speeded things up. When I posted earlier about being disappointed. that was with 2 gb stock memory. I put in a total of 4 gb today. Turns out, now get this, if I had ordered the mini with 4 gb to start, it would only have cost $100 more from Apple. Getting it from OWC cost $120.00. Apple would have been cheaper on memory! Go figure. Anyway, 4 gb seems to be the sweet spot for general use like for me.
