I have a brand new Mac mini. Due to a mistake I lost the original Lion system and Could not restore it from the Internet.I downloaded Lion installation file and burnt it into a DVD. I booted the system by this DVD , system shows Apple logo and after a certain time shows another logo similar to forbidden.Currently I have formatted my HDD and installed a windows 7 64 bit on it.Â
View 14 Repliesi have got a mac mini 2011 (i5, 4gb ram, 500gb hdd) recently...Im trying to boot from a dvd with OS X Lion but im getting a prohibitory sign?I have tried botting from a usb flash drive, but it doesn't work...I have tried downloading the system using the recovery client on the mac mini... but download process die at the middle everytime i start it.. so... I don't know what to do... i read that OS X Lion 10.7 cannot boot on this kind of mac mini (and macbook air), and i needed to do this with a more recent version like 10.7.2 or 10.7.3... so i've done it with 10.7.3, but the prohibitory is still appearing.. . i have got OS X Lion clean install on my macbook pro (2010) without problem.. but i cannot get it working on the mac mini....Â

Can I really not install Lion because my mac mini only has 1GB of RAM? This is very disappointing. I've just got myself an iPhone 4S, so effectively I can't use any of the iCloud features because my mac mini can't run Lion. And apparently there is no alternative.

All I've found regarding this question is simply removing the server app, but as I can say all the processes still work — emails about IP address changes are generated and sent, you name it.

Ever since I downloaded iplayer - my mac has been running slow. I have followed a few tips to remove it and all other related files - but it still runs low (spinning wheel of death) and now pdf's dont download correctly (I guess I have deleted too much).Â
My ideal would be to start from scrach - although I want to keep my itunes and iphotos files as well as my documents. Is there a way to reload back to factory settings then add selected programs and folders from timemachine? I am in the process of timemachine backing up everything now.Â

View 16 Replies View RelatedI have a 2006 Mac Mini that was running Linux and being a media center for the past few years. I've just replaced it with a different machine and was trying to put OS X back on it... but it just won't install.
I'm trying to install Snow Leopard from the actual Snow Leopard DVD, and it gets to a random point and does the Grey Death Screen (see image).
Just to test, I've installed Linux and Windows on it with no problems. I've, uh, also been able to install a hacked version of OS X on it (though that has it's own set of problems). But the authentic OS X randomly dies.
how to settle this.I am trying to install Adobe CS4 on my mini, but on the way that it will checking its system profile, this would always appear:
I installed same on my other units with no problems at all,but on my mini it seems it can't.
I have seen mentioned in a few other threads that the total recognized RAM might be superior to the official 4 Gb, just like older minis could see 3 Gb instead of 2. Has anybody tried it yet?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a 1.83 ghz intel mac mini. it has a busted internal cd drive, i use a sony dl dvd burner and 2 external hard drives. I have a retail copy of snow leopard. In the instructions, the guide says sl will install from an external optical drive. Heres what I have tried so far.
Installing from external optical drive- when i try this it goes through the normal verifications, i agree to eula, when i get to the grey screen with spinning apple, after a few minutes a "no" sign pops up, like a no smoking sign and my computer restarts and takes me to the login screen.
I thought maybe it was a disk space issues so i backed up, erased some items and freed up about 20 gb, giving me 30 gb of free disk space. tried again with installation and same thing happens.
next i went into disk utility and verified and repaired permissions, which was a lot, tried again and same thing. next i verified disk. disk is ok.
next i started thinking perhaps its the disk. so i tried to install sl on my moms unibody macbook. installation went fine, she is running 10.6 like a champ.
So then i decided to try a remote installation. i unplugged all usb devices, including the dvd burner and ran the remote install assistant. im using and ethernet cable connection, with the 2 computers plugged directly to each other, and i can browse both computers files from one another. when i restart the mini with the assistant running on the macbook, when i hold down option to select the start up device, the only option listed is starting from the mini's own hard drive and not the macbook.
I've tried everything i could think out with asking. But now i would really like some. If any one has any suggestions, i am all ears. Im gonna be heading for school now, and will respond with what ever I can after 10pm pacific.

If not, will it work if I install Tiger on an external HD and then firewire it to a wiped C2D?

I tried to do the bootcamp install of Windows XP SP3, and it failed for reason, not sure yet. Anyway, now the only way I can get my Mac to boot is to hold down the Option Key. Gives me a choice of the OS X hard drive or the OS X install DVD. However if I just turn it on and let it boot normal, it says not a bootable device.

I've downloaded the package macmini2011efiupdate.pkg and this corresponds with my 5.2 model identifier. I have already updated lion to 10.7.3 and I seem to think that maybe the boot rom update was intended for 10.7.2 and it won't let me install on 10.7.3 because it thinks it isn't compatible? The message I get when I try to install the Boot ROM update is this software is not supported by your system.

I'm trying to install an upgrade copy of Snow Leopard from Apple on my Mac Mini running 10.5.8. I bought this system used and the volume says ";" and the error log code is 21. Seems it can't find valid softward ID to continue or the path is different. Not sure where to go with this.

My Mac Mini Server running Lion 10.7.1 will not accept the update to 10.7.2 or 10.7.3. I know that there have been some MacBook Pro's that wont accept the install. I have run disk utility and repaired disk permissions and verified the disk. I cant boot off a disk as Lion is a direct download from the App store. I have read that 10.7.2 was very buggy and some people were restorong back to 10.7.1. Can I update to 10.7.3 from 10.7.1. I have also tried the stand alone installers. The same problem the .dmg downloads and opens I run the install package which validates and runs. When I am prompted to restart a message comes up same unexpected error ocurred unable to install and a restart option. Its driving me nuts.

Some days ago I went to upgrade my mac mini 2010.I downloaded the combo-updater, as this is my preference. I sometimes have trouble with the normal updater from software update.When running the install I get this message of error above. I tried doing it different ways, downloaded the updater numerous times to try again.I even REINSTALLED OS Lion from the original installer and started over with the same result, even allowing the installer to dl the update, as it asked to do so.So I completely started over with a clean re-partitioned drive and had the same result. I tethered it to my macbook pro 2010 in FIREWIRE TARGET mode and tried installing it that way, same result. I have also just let the Software Updater utility run and allow it to install the downladed update. That activity returns a "cannot expan" error message...End result: It will not for any reason install this update. This is a problem I have never encountered (in 25 years of using macs).
