The cursor often does not advance when my spacebar is depressed. I have a white macbook with 2.2Ghz Intel Core Duo running OS 10.5.8. The keyboard has been replaced three times without success. Sometimes while in Excel all the keys just freeze up. Has anyone come across this problem?

Initially I'm very satisfy with my Macbook performance, fast response. But after some time, I notice it running is a very very slow operation, even worst that my Samsung laptop.
I was install some software, like OnlyX, CleanMyMac, MacScan 2, MacTuneUp, SpeedTools Utilities Pro. I hope this things can give back my speed, but it doesn't sound that way.
Sometimes, the system it show a message, the content of the message is saying that, my startup disk is low disk space. So, I immediately using CleanMyMac to uninstall some software, finally it able to recovery over 7G. But the system is still the same, running at very slow respond. Especially when I open the Google Chrome (last time very fast), it take about 1 min to loading! Sometimes the message regarding the "startup disk is low disk space" is still popup.
When I open the Finder, I notice the disk space at "Macintosh HD" and "user" is ZERO byte (but sometime it could be >1G but sometime is lesses).

I'm sure all of you heard about the new mac book more specifically the 13 inch. I however have the original macbook 13 unibody laptop. I want to upgrade my hard drive but I want to make sure there isn't a max space which my laptop can handle. Does any one if there is a max and what the specifications of the hard drive size is like the size?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a macbook mid 2007 that shuts down immediately after it is unplugged from AC. I've tried the battery on another machine and it works fine as well as trying a known good battery in this machine.Also I've tried a known good AC adapter. Other things I have done are run the hardware test which shows no errors, reset the smc and Pram, repaired permissions etc. the battery appears normal in the menu bar and says it is fully charged.Also it Appears in system information as normal.coconut battery also appears normal with 275 cycles.I'm hoping the problem lies in the Battery Connector with Sleep Switch and not the logic board. Anyone had any experience with this problem?
One other strange thing is that after unplugging the AC the system shuts down immediately, but once you plug it back in it starts without the power button being pressed.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMacBooks: 4 / 5 (In the pic you see some powerbooks too) will start for a couple seconds, and then shut off, the longer you leave them, the longer they stay on. Battery in or out does not matter. Same thing. Reinstalled Leopard still same thing. Pram reset same thing. We probably won't spend the money to fix these and will throw them out, unless I am missing something? Space bar doesn't work, unless you do spotlight, or hold shift.

What determines how much I can add to one of my created .dmg's? Sometimes when I try adding a file it says right off the bat that the .dmg is full. Other times I am able to add gigs until it says it's full.
Is there any way I can make an unlimited space .dmg and just keep adding to it?
Quick question: I'm cloning/backing up my 250GB boot drive which has all my sys, apps and docs on it. I have a larger 320GB target drive to back up on. But I want to partition it up into 2 partitions. One for the boot clone and the other for other junk. When I go to disk utility it says the Total Capacity of my 250 is 238.1 GB. So, should I partition my target clone partition at say 240 GB (to get more out of the 2nd partition)(or is that inadequate when my source drive gets full up at a later date) or 250 GB or 256 GB (to be really safe)?

I am running my Macbook Pro at work through the LAN. My work has a windows 2003 server. Everything has been fine (well just about) until today, when I couldn't get onto any internet sites. It would let me access all of the local work intranet site, but it wouldn't even let me on google. It worked fine yesterday, and all the Win PCs around me were all still up and running. I tried using a different port but to no avail. Also, I am still trying to access my root drives that are on my profile space at work. e.g R:\Venusgroupswbl etc etc. I want to connect to these through my mac.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWe all know, spaces are great for organizing. But when I use Adobe apps such as Photoshop CS3 Extended or anything in my CS3 suite, there's some weird glitch. I usually switch back and forth between spaces. And when I go back to the space with my Adobe app open in, on the stage my tools don't work. I select something such as lasso and go onto the stage but then, it twitches, from normal cursor to lasso cursor. This happens on all tools, and only some parts of the stage I can draw/use the tool on. Sometimes I can't even use it at all. I'm forced to quit the app and restart it to keep on working.

In Spotlight configuration and also in keyboard shortcut configuration this shortcut is present and marked as active.
I've also tried to disable and enable back this shortcut but it still not work.

Once connected it asked whether i want to create a password and whether i want my data encrypted, to which i answered yes. Then a time machine backup started and failed after backing up 5.25 GB out of 39 GB of my data with the following error: "The backup disk ran out of space unexpectedly. Time Machine will try to make more space available by removing expired backups during the next scheduled backup". When i look at time machine it shows there is 994.29 GB available on iomega ego drive. The drive then went into: "Encrypting Backup Disk" message and it takes forever.

I have the MacBook Pro 2010 13" and recently I've noticed my disc space is slowly decreasing with use.
Im not downloading files or anything, but today I lost around 600 MB of space, I just kept opening my Finder to discover less and less disc space each time.
Is this normal or do I have a problem, this is the first time I've noticed it in the month and a half I've owned the machine.
Just quite surprised and then not at the same time that my 11.6 has just 46gbs after a fresh install of leopard. Can't fit anything on there! Looking at my migration assistant, I won't be able to transfer a lot of my applications over. Anyone who wants to do some video work, bootcamping, or photoshopping/editing shouldn't even look at a 64gb. An ultimate 11" seems to be a must for the harddrive space and the 4gb of ram.
View 13 Replies View Relatedi have just started my phd and am looking for a portable laptop. my requirements are pretty basic - lots of word processing, music, movies, and of course internet. maybe some photo editing. now first, i am a little mixed up if i should go for the macbook pro (basic 13 inch) or the newly launched macbook air (13 inch basic). pro is more powerful and cheaper than air. but then air is lighter and also has the faster flash memory! on the other hand, i am tempted to go for an SSD option with the pro. the price goes up of course by 315 $ or so. but in a way then the system could last me for a very long time given that the new polymer batteries last 3 times than normal ones. and its really the batteries/HDD that get worn out first.
on the other hand i am a little wary of SSD technology. it seems that the old HDD's are not that bad, and have some advantages over the SSD's. an internet search reveals that the 1st generation SSD's had a lot of problems. so does apple now use 1st generation ones or newer ones? moreover, is the SSD option more reliable or the flash drive one (with air)? basically am ready to invest a big amount provided i am assured that the system will last me for a long time to come.
I have been running out of hard drive space and have deleted a whole bunch of files... even deleted all the languages i didn't need from all my applications... about a week ago i freed up around 2GB.... but without saving and downloading anything my free space is now 70MB!! All I have been doing is watching streamed videos and I notice this reduces the drive space as I'm watching it!! Even opening firefox and some websites drops my memory by 0.1MB. I can't find anywhere where temporary files might be so i can delete them.
I never used to have this problem but I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that I now use wireless internet through a phone provider and a USB modem rather than my previous WiFi via cable broadband.
Can anybody shed some light on what is stealing my memory when browsing?

Can anyone explain to me why, on my iMac's 500GB hard drive, the displayed size of the only 4 items on it is 207GB, that the info box on the HD itself says 393GB used? Unless I failed grade 1 math, 500GB - 207GB = 293GB, right? So where's the missing ~100GB? That's a lot of space I know I haven't filled up.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a MacBook Pro that is approximately 2 years old. It has always worked fine without any issues at all. Tonight I was installing some scanner software for a Fujitsu S300M scanner. After installing the software it asked me to reboot so I had reboot. At that time I came back a minute later to see just a black screen. I then after a couple more minutes decided to hold down the power button and turn off the power since nothing was happening.
I then pressed the button again and I saw the light turn on on the button that opens the screen but that is all. There was no startup chime, nothing. All I could hear is at the same time the light came on the optical drive makes it's noise that it makes at bootup. I have tried repeatly to start the computer. I have pulled both the AC Power and Battery for several minutes with still no luck. As I said just the light comes on and the optical drive makes noise and that's it, no startup chime, nothing. I don't think this should be related to scanner software and I'm assuming it was a coincidence that it happened then but any idea what could be causing this and can I fix it without a trip to the genius bar?

First, when charging my Mac at night in off-mode, it will occasionally turn itself on at some point evidenced by the power-on when it's opened. Then,I have had one instance of a shut-down by itself during use. It restarted w/ no problem. Next, the computer turned itself on with the cover closed and the computer had been off all night. I heard it start up, so I am sure. I do have AppleCare if I need to take it in.

I have a macbook that was given the ol beer in the keyboard treatment and went dark with a ghost image, before I bought it, leading me to believe that it was the inverter board had blown, I bought one online and replaced it but to no avail. The previous owner obviously had very little knowledge as they left a few screws out on reassembly but I don't think they should matter a lot. I could of course use it with an external monitor but kind of defeats the purpose of a laptop. So would like to get the display working without having to buy a new display. I cannot seem to find out if it is possible to replace the backlight, if this is the problem, or to find one for sale online, even on the excellent ifixit site. It is a 2Ghz intel core 2 duo.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an Intel based Macbook pro. I have an old Thinkpad T20 with XP Pro acting as a print server. My printer is an HP PSC 1350. I also have another laptop with XP on it. My wife uses her PC laptop and I'm using the Mac. She can print wirelessly to the PSC1350 no problem. I have downloaded and installed the hpjis, Foomatic-RIP, and Ghostscript in order to get the driver for the HP printer. The 1350 isn't on the list, but the 1300 and the 1400 is so probably close enough. I can see my printer on the network from the MacBook and I load it, etc...
When I go to print, the file goes into the queue, the printer fires up, prepares to take the paper, and then stops. Going to the XP laptop acting as the server - the file is shown in the queue and says Printing, but it's stopped. I have to manually remove the file from the queue from the spool directory to clear it. Has anyone ever been able to get the HP PSC 1350 to print from a MacBook through an XP server?
One that no one would be able to get in at all? I've read where someone could use the install disc and set a new password. There's no way at all to make my computer totally safe from someone getting into it?
