Laptops :: Space Bar On Macbook Don't Work?
Oct 26, 2009The cursor often does not advance when my spacebar is depressed. I have a white macbook with 2.2Ghz Intel Core Duo running OS 10.5.8. The keyboard has been replaced three times without success. Sometimes while in Excel all the keys just freeze up. Has anyone come across this problem?

Nov 16, 2010I'm a new bird to use Mac OS. This is my 1st Mac.
Initially I'm very satisfy with my Macbook performance, fast response. But after some time, I notice it running is a very very slow operation, even worst that my Samsung laptop.
I was install some software, like OnlyX, CleanMyMac, MacScan 2, MacTuneUp, SpeedTools Utilities Pro. I hope this things can give back my speed, but it doesn't sound that way.
Sometimes, the system it show a message, the content of the message is saying that, my startup disk is low disk space. So, I immediately using CleanMyMac to uninstall some software, finally it able to recovery over 7G. But the system is still the same, running at very slow respond. Especially when I open the Google Chrome (last time very fast), it take about 1 min to loading! Sometimes the message regarding the "startup disk is low disk space" is still popup.
When I open the Finder, I notice the disk space at "Macintosh HD" and "user" is ZERO byte (but sometime it could be >1G but sometime is lesses).

Processor 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

Jun 10, 2009I'm sure all of you heard about the new mac book more specifically the 13 inch. I however have the original macbook 13 unibody laptop. I want to upgrade my hard drive but I want to make sure there isn't a max space which my laptop can handle. Does any one if there is a max and what the specifications of the hard drive size is like the size?

Jan 9, 2009I just opened up my MacBook about an hour ago, and for some reason the sound output isn't working. System preferences are as they should be (mute is not activated). I'm assuming that this is a hardware problem, but am hoping that somehow it is not. It's completely mute, btw, no sounds of any kind. When I restarted it, no sounds when it booted up again.

Feb 2, 2010I have a 1.33 GHz PowerPC G4 (1.2) version 10.4.11 ibook that was purchased in May or June of 2005. Lately, out of the blue, the power chord has stopped working.
The light that indicates the computer is charging goes on for a second and then promptly turns off and stays off; the laptop is then running on battery power; it is almost dead.
When it tries to connect (before turning off) it makes a sound like a lightbulb that is flickering and trying not to die.
This could be an outlet problem, I suppose (I will have my dorm check on that), but think it might have gotten fried when I was home for christmas because our house has ancient outlets and I usually have to use the two prong adapter there.

Sep 8, 2010Applications like Google Earth, Google Chrome, Transmission, iChat, etc. have stopped working. So have all the other apps that require a connection to the internet. Only Safari, Mail, the iTunes Store, and Aperture Uploader work. I have a MacBook Pro, running Snow Leopard, which I have reinstalled since the problem, to no avail.

Feb 8, 2010I disassembled my MacBook to repair a jammed optical drive. I have two problems: the first is while testing that the optical drive now worked (I tested it will it was still partially disassembled, and it did work) I noticed the track pad and keyboard were not functioning. Obviously the power button works, and the machine booted fine, but the trackpad and the keyboard don't work at all. I had to plug a mouse in to move the pointer. I should note that yes, the trackpad cable was indeed firmly plugged in.
However, at one point when trying to reassemble the top case, the trackpad cable detached from the plastic piece that plugs it into the logic board. I removed the plastic piece, slid it back into place over the wires of the cable and then plugged it back in. So I'm wondering if this means I need a new trackpad cable? My second problem is that upon full reassembly, the machine will not turn on. The power button doesn't work when the top case is firmly back in place and the rest of the machine reassembled. I have no idea what might be causing this.

Nov 29, 2010I was listening to music on my macbook with headphones one night and once I unplugged them my sound stopped working. There is no red light coming out of the headphone jack and when I go to the sound settings it says there are no output controls. I don't know what to do because everyone says theirs has a red light but mine doesn't.

Sep 4, 2009I have a macbook 2,1, the white one. Has anyone else had their regular built in sound just stop working right after upgrading to snow leopard? I can get sound to play through headphones, but once I up plug them the little sound icon in the menu bar will grey out and I will not be able to get sound to play through the internal speakers.
If I go to the Sys Pref > Sound > Output Pane, it will say "The selected device has no output controls" in the Settings for Selected Device section.
I upgraded my girlfriends laptop to Snow Leopard even though she could care less. Now she's all mad cause the sound doesn't work.
Laptops :: Erasing Hardrive On IBook Without Reinstallation / CD Drive Not Working?
May 14, 2010I have an old iBook that I just want to completely wipe clean and install windows XP on (I know...blaspheme). Before people start questioning why I would do such a thing...it's only because I need the laptop for DJing in which I have an external sound card that only works with Windows. The main problem is that the CD drive doesn't work so I am uncertain how to go about erasing my hard drive and installing XP via USB.

Dec 2, 2009I have been running out of hard drive space and have deleted a whole bunch of files... even deleted all the languages i didn't need from all my applications... about a week ago i freed up around 2GB.... but without saving and downloading anything my free space is now 70MB!! All I have been doing is watching streamed videos and I notice this reduces the drive space as I'm watching it!! Even opening firefox and some websites drops my memory by 0.1MB. I can't find anywhere where temporary files might be so i can delete them.
I never used to have this problem but I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that I now use wireless internet through a phone provider and a USB modem rather than my previous WiFi via cable broadband.
Can anybody shed some light on what is stealing my memory when browsing?

Mar 14, 2012I've bought a 1 TB iomega ego mac edition II external fire wire drive. Once connected it asked whether i want to create a password and whether i want my data encrypted, to which i answered yes. Then a time machine backup started and failed after backing up 5.25 GB out of 39 GB of my data with the following error: "The backup disk ran out of space unexpectedly. Time Machine will try to make more space available by removing expired backups during the next scheduled backup". When i look at time machine it shows there is 994.29 GB available on iomega ego drive. The drive then went into: "Encrypting Backup Disk" message and it takes forever.

I have the MacBook Pro 2010 13" and recently I've noticed my disc space is slowly decreasing with use.
Im not downloading files or anything, but today I lost around 600 MB of space, I just kept opening my Finder to discover less and less disc space each time.
Is this normal or do I have a problem, this is the first time I've noticed it in the month and a half I've owned the machine.

Mar 21, 2012Can anyone explain to me why, on my iMac's 500GB hard drive, the displayed size of the only 4 items on it is 207GB, that the info box on the HD itself says 393GB used? Unless I failed grade 1 math, 500GB - 207GB = 293GB, right? So where's the missing ~100GB? That's a lot of space I know I haven't filled up.

Dec 28, 2010Just quite surprised and then not at the same time that my 11.6 has just 46gbs after a fresh install of leopard. Can't fit anything on there! Looking at my migration assistant, I won't be able to transfer a lot of my applications over. Anyone who wants to do some video work, bootcamping, or photoshopping/editing shouldn't even look at a 64gb. An ultimate 11" seems to be a must for the harddrive space and the 4gb of ram.

OS X :: Skipped Erase Free Space, No Space On HD?
Apr 23, 2009I managed to interrupt the computer when I selected the "Erase Free Space" option. I had 0GB left on the computer and had to cancel almost all of the applications. I Googled and found that /var/root/Library/Caches/TemporaryItems should locate the file when entered in Terminal, but whenever I try that, it just says "Permission denied." It only asked for a password once, and when I tried entering it, it said that there was no such file. I located a few other temporary files and deleted those, and also tried making empty folders on the desktop to empty the trash. It freed up 6.7 GB, but there's still a lot of space missing. I'm not sure what else to try or how to get the space back.

I waited for several minutes and it didn't move. I tried clicking the skip button, but that did nothing either, so I force quit Disk Utility.
The problem is, it left the disk at "Zero KB" of free space, effectively making my computer inoperable. I was in the process of studying for a huge exam tomorrow, and am currently flipping out.
If it matters, I'm on a Macbook Pro 2.33 GHz Core 2 Duo, running 10.4.
I really don't want to have to reinstall the OS and import the old files, but my real fear is that I will have to do a fresh install of the OS.

Laptops :: Off And On WiFi Again And Again?
Jul 24, 2009I have had my Macbook for a month and a half and so far I love it, except one minor issue. My AirPort card is off when initially boot into OS X. I don't have a problem turning it on I just need to input my WEP key every time. This is a little frustrating, especially when the folks at Apple are clueless. I have all my software updated to 105.7.
