View 3 RepliesI've backed up all the contents of my computer to a 1TB external hard drive connected by USB (LaCie Porsche). Time Machine is working perfectly with it! Now, I want to erase lots of files from the startup disc or do whatever I need to do in order that I might have way more available memory on the startup disc. I need to know that my backups of iPhoto are truly on the external drive, and then I need to do something so that the memory available on my desktop is maximized.

I have the stock 2x1 and just ordered matched 4x2gb for a total of 10gb.
Now, I probably won't be needing 10gb for my audio work, so my question is, should I leave the stock ram out for the added benefit of the quad channel ram thingie? Because, according to this report, the 10gb config gives 6.8 throughput vs the 6.5 of the 4x2gb! I thought 4 or 8 slots filled should be faster? What gives??
I was wondering. A friend of mine has a Emac 700mhz equipped with a 56k modem. She has an "intermediary" speed internet connection. With that, she can't really view a video - let's say from Youtube. It just keeps hanging. She only has 256mg of RAM which can be boosted to 1G, and I was wondering if by doing so, it would have a significant impact on her Emac capacity to view such content.
View 6 Replies View Relatedif I want to increase the HD space I designated to Windows, how do I do so? I can easily adjust RAM and what not... but HD space seems fixed? I'm worried about running out.And my other question is... why is 256MB VRAM the max I can allow? According to microsoft's website... 128MB is the minimum recommended amount for Vista Ultimate... and my MBP only has 256MB on it.. so will maxing it out at 128 (max as in it's all vbox will allow) be ok for both windows and my mac? (I'm assuming it then only gives Mac OS 128MB

I've got 300GB of free space on the hard drive, and only 60GB used as swap. I think the limit I'm hitting is the 64th swap file.

I use Safari and Mail 90% of the time. The other 10% is occasional iTunes use, MPlayer use, and Preview use. Is it time for me to upgrade to 4 GB of RAM?
Note - I do use the following extensions in Safari: AdBlock and YouTube5.
I am thinking of buying a MBP, and I want to do my research correctly .
I want to get the base model (the 2.66ghz seems like a ripoff...), but upgrade the harddrive space. If I increased it from the 240gb to the 500gb, would that make my computer faster? Or what would the effects of it be? I am just wondering to see whether I should go for he 500gb or the 320gb...I do not want to get the SSD since they are pretty expensive at this point.
Strange as it may seem, when I installed Snow Leopard, I immediately freed almost 40 gig on my Macbook pro (can't imagine why) and speed was increased by a factor of 2-3 times. One more thing is that parallels is now "almost" as fast as a native program, especially with Quicken for windows, which is the only reason that I use parallels.

Check the disk and partition for errors.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMacintosh HD is showing 370GB used but it doesn't add up when you look at the Users folder. The largest User account is 24GB, and between Applications, System, and Library there's only another 17GB used. Hence, about 320GB of used drive space is unaccounted for.Â
Disk Utility also shows 500GB drive, 127GB available, 370GB used.Â
I suspect an older User account was deleted but has somehow been retained, albeit hidden. Yet the Deleted Users folder is showing Zero Bytes.Â
Also, the Trash is completely empty, so the missing data is not lurking there.Â
I'd very much like to examine the deleted account and look at the data (particularly photos and movies) that were in there.

I just got my dual 2ghz G5 that I bought off ebay. I love it. Anyway, it has a 64mb Radeon 9600 Pro with the two monitor ports. I plugged my 22" Samsung into the DVI port. I want to buy another identical monitor for the other port, but it looks different. I found a graphic that shows the card's ports: [URL]. The top one in the graphic is where I put the connection. The bottom one is different. Is there an adapter or something? Or since I'm using two non-Apple monitors, should I just get a new card? BTW, I just bought and installed Leopard.

I'm running an older 24 inch cinema display on my MBP and am looking to add second 24 inch monitor for use in FCP. My only cheap option seems to be a USB gizmo, something like this [URL]. Anyone have any experience with this device, specifically with FCP 6; I'd like to use the second monitor to playback the footage in the viewer so I don't think the device needs too much horse power but the footage will be in the ProRes 422 format.

I'm thinking of adding a second monitor and instead of using the second DVI port on my 8800GT I'd like to just add an ATI 2600XT and plug the second monitor into that, saving extra strain on the 8800GT.
My questions are:
1) Do the 8800GT and 2600XT play nice together in one box?
2) Can an application grab just one monitor without using windowed mode? (simple e.g. WoW running full screen on the 8800GT and the desktop showing on the 2600XT).
I was able to set up monitoring incoming mail with sender_bcc and that seems to work when mail is incoming and BCC's to a 3rd party to check the mail.Â
Now for the person sending an email to a person outside the organisation. Need to do that because the company has been made aware that emails have been sent out to the opposition.Â
