I was listening to music on my macbook with headphones one night and once I unplugged them my sound stopped working. There is no red light coming out of the headphone jack and when I go to the sound settings it says there are no output controls. I don't know what to do because everyone says theirs has a red light but mine doesn't.
View 2 RepliesI have a macbook 2,1, the white one. Has anyone else had their regular built in sound just stop working right after upgrading to snow leopard? I can get sound to play through headphones, but once I up plug them the little sound icon in the menu bar will grey out and I will not be able to get sound to play through the internal speakers.
If I go to the Sys Pref > Sound > Output Pane, it will say "The selected device has no output controls" in the Settings for Selected Device section.
I upgraded my girlfriends laptop to Snow Leopard even though she could care less. Now she's all mad cause the sound doesn't work.
So I went to church earlier tonight, and was gone about 4 hours. When I came home and opened up my Macbook, the right click had stopped working. I have tried unchecking and rechecking the option for right click, restarted the computer. I don't know what to do!
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a Macbook Pro 15" for college. I set everything up and it was working perfect until a few days ago. When I try to send a message on my macbook the person's name I am sending it to is blue for a second but quickly changes to red but I know they are using iMessage because I am iMessaging them off of my iPhone. Also, when I try to facetime someone from my macbook it works perfectly and I can receive facetimes too.
Some of the fixes I tried:
Logging out of iMessage on iPhone and then logging back in
Deleting preference files (This is a huge confusion for me, I simply don't have the files. Ex: com.apple.imservice.iMessage
I've tried editing the preferences on my macbook and iphone . I recently switched from my 5c to a 4s because water damage completely ruined my 5c.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 1.33 GHz PowerPC G4 (1.2) version 10.4.11 ibook that was purchased in May or June of 2005. Lately, out of the blue, the power chord has stopped working.
The light that indicates the computer is charging goes on for a second and then promptly turns off and stays off; the laptop is then running on battery power; it is almost dead.
When it tries to connect (before turning off) it makes a sound like a lightbulb that is flickering and trying not to die.
This could be an outlet problem, I suppose (I will have my dorm check on that), but think it might have gotten fried when I was home for christmas because our house has ancient outlets and I usually have to use the two prong adapter there.
So my paired Bluetooth PS3 controller just stopped connecting with my mid-2011 iMac today. It says it is connected in the drop-down Bluetooth menu, I can see the flashing red lights, but it no longer works with any of the games it did 1-2 days ago.
I did download USB Overdrive to use the PS3 controller plugged in (with Expendabros, which was crashing when I tried to use the controller wirelessly, a known bug) yesterday, and it worked with that. Anyway, I made sure Overdrive was not selected as active in System Preferences. I tried that little reset button on the controller itself. Charged it, of course (it was almost full anyway). Restarted my computer. Add resetting SMC and PRAM (the latter always makes me nervous, as it really screwed up my wifi settings once) to the list. I tried removing the device from the drop-down menu bar list and repairing, no luck. Is it odd that it is showing up in the drop-down list, but not in the list in Bluetooth System Preferences?
In addition, I looked at my System Profile, and the PS3 controller is listed as NOT paired...Lastly, I tried to find com.apple.Bluetooth.plist in "Preferences" under Library (to try deleting it), but I couldn't find it. I did find com.apple.I don't believe there were any OS updates recently that could have changed Bluetooth somehow.

Not sure why, but all of a sudden have no sound effects. When I go to System Preferences all the alert sound effect choices are grayed out. When press the volume buttons, can't adjust settings and there's a strike-out symbol underneath the bars.

I just opened up my MacBook about an hour ago, and for some reason the sound output isn't working. System preferences are as they should be (mute is not activated). I'm assuming that this is a hardware problem, but am hoping that somehow it is not. It's completely mute, btw, no sounds of any kind. When I restarted it, no sounds when it booted up again.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed 10.5.7 yesterday. Immediately after the installation was complete, my Apple bluetooth keyboard stopped working. Went into Bluetooth system settings, and it said that there was no bluetooth hardware found... (it's built into the machine!!)...
Also, every time I start iTunes, it gives some weird error about Adobe Flash player. I'm not at home now so I don't have the exact wording of the error with me, sorry...
just moments ago i plugged in my mbp and literally 1 minute or so later i hear a static fuzz sound (hard to describe) but if i had to give a similar sound it was exactly like the sound your radio alarm clock makes sometimes when your cell phone is nearby receiving an incoming call or text w/e, your alarm clock sometimes makes that sudden static fuzz sound.
well my mbp made that sound, wasn't as distorted as an radio alarm clock would make, but it sounded more precise. the sound came out of the left speaker for a second or so (no music or movie or any program with sound effects were active at this moment) i believe right where the magsafe is hooked into. and i was like "what the heck was that?? and was it from my mbp??" so i looked at the magsafe and sure enough the orange charging light was out as if it was unplugged (but it was still plugged IN) so i unhooked it then rehooked it and now it charged like normal again, still hasn't done it again while i started this thread.
any thoughts?? additional info i have to add is, i was swapping out the extension pieces from the smaller cord adapter, to the full 8 foot or so cord one. but when i switched out the small single piece i tugged in the opposite direction, i pulled up against the metal circle joint, instead of sliding left to unhooked the metal circle thing (w/e u call it). i felt the piece and its in full contact, i didn't loosen it or anything. could this be the random cause?
lastly, that static noise i heard that ended up causing the magsafe to stop charging. could that static noise damage my speakers?
additional info i also had my cell phone like 8 inches away from the magsafe. could the cell phone have the same static frequency or w/e that can interfere with the magnet/charging cycle?? i didn't receive any calls or texts when it happened. so i dunno if cell phones have frequencies constantly that could possibly cause my issue without having the receive incoming calls or texts etc.
My 15" MacBook Pro has been randomly shutting down. I ran Apple Hardware Tools, but it found nothing. So, I ran TechTool Pro 5.0.6 and discovered a SMART drive failure. On the 'Temperature Changes' test, the black indicator is all the way to the right. What does this mean? What do I need to do?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI disassembled my MacBook to repair a jammed optical drive. I have two problems: the first is while testing that the optical drive now worked (I tested it will it was still partially disassembled, and it did work) I noticed the track pad and keyboard were not functioning. Obviously the power button works, and the machine booted fine, but the trackpad and the keyboard don't work at all. I had to plug a mouse in to move the pointer. I should note that yes, the trackpad cable was indeed firmly plugged in.
However, at one point when trying to reassemble the top case, the trackpad cable detached from the plastic piece that plugs it into the logic board. I removed the plastic piece, slid it back into place over the wires of the cable and then plugged it back in. So I'm wondering if this means I need a new trackpad cable? My second problem is that upon full reassembly, the machine will not turn on. The power button doesn't work when the top case is firmly back in place and the rest of the machine reassembled. I have no idea what might be causing this.
i've noticed that my 17" Macbook Pro makes an odd clicking sound when slight pressure is put in the general location of the hard drive. For instance, if I'm lying down, and the laptop is on my stomach, when I breathe in, it will make weird staticy, metallic clicking sounds.

I'm yet to figure out a pattern, but my Macbook Pro's keyboard will just stop working for several minutes at a time at random points in time. Even if I hit caps or num lock, they don't turn green. I have a 2006 IMac that works perfectly except for one thing. One day last year out of the blue the sound stopped working and I would get the 'not allowed' circle when I tried to adjust the volume. the problem persisted for a week or so, then the sound just came back on. Everything was fine untill a month ago when the same thing happened. I did some research and tried the toothpick trick and everything related but nothing worked, then the next morning the sound was on. Over the next few weeks the sound would go on and off randomly for no apparent reason. It has now been off for two solid weeks and I don't know what to do. Is it possibly a loose connection inside the computer that just needs to be plugged in?

Over the past few months, I have noticed that my MagSafe light will randomly stop working when I plug it into my MacBook. I just unplug it, and plug it back in and it works normally. It seems like the computer still charges though.

View 3 Replies View RelatedRecently, my MBP's single-tap-to-select stops working, usually after I wake it up from sleep. This happens almost every other day, for the past 2-3 weeks (since 10.7.3 I'm guessing). Double-tap-to-right-click works fine, and keyboard commands all work, but single-tap just doesn't work till I reboot the machine. It's driving me mad. Even plugging in a mouse doesn't help, so it's not a trackpad / hardware issue at all.
