Applications like Google Earth, Google Chrome, Transmission, iChat, etc. have stopped working. So have all the other apps that require a connection to the internet. Only Safari, Mail, the iTunes Store, and Aperture Uploader work. I have a MacBook Pro, running Snow Leopard, which I have reinstalled since the problem, to no avail.

I cant figure out how to make my network require a password when u log in. For example i have a i-phone i would like it when i log in to my mac, that it asks for a password. so how do i do that?

I have two laptops on the same network. When one of them is on, the other cannot get on because of this IP conflict, and vice versa. How do I change one of the IP addresses so I can get both laptops on the network at the same time? I'm looking to transfer music between two laptops and because they both can't connect to the network at the same time (Mac and PC), I can't transfer the files.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have had my MacBook for 6 months and it has worked just great with my WiFi network and any other WiFi I have happened to connect it to. This morning, while I was downloading some files, my internet connection died on me. At 1st I thought it was my provider and I usually fix that by restarting my Router. I did that, but nothing happened. I could detect and connect to my WiFi but I had no internet access! My wife's PC and mobile phone connect perfectly well to my WiFi and so does my iPhone!!! My MacBook now only works with Ethernet. Let me add that I have the 13.3" MacBook unibody running the latest Leopard 10.5.8. software upgrades.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have had my iPhoto library on a USB drive attached to Time Capsule for some time with no problems. I recently upgraded to iPhoto '09, and still had no problems, so not sure that's related. The library updated ok, and I played with Places and indexed some Faces over more than one session, no problems. Upgraded iPhoto on all the macs and tested their access to the library ok.
Suddenly now, none of the network macs can open the library. iPhoto launches with no pictures visible and has a spinning beechball. I have to Force Quit iPhoto. Same on all macs.
I then copied the library from the networked drive locally to a mac, and iPhoto could then open it perfectly ok. So I guess the library is not corrupt either.
Any ideas why this network setup would suddenly stop working?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just opened up my MacBook about an hour ago, and for some reason the sound output isn't working. System preferences are as they should be (mute is not activated). I'm assuming that this is a hardware problem, but am hoping that somehow it is not. It's completely mute, btw, no sounds of any kind. When I restarted it, no sounds when it booted up again.

Is there a way to encode my ripped tracks with DRM to force iTunes to check if the computer is authorized to play them? I think I remember there was an early version of iTunes that allowed you to encrypt your own tracks with FairPlay DRM.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a 1.33 GHz PowerPC G4 (1.2) version 10.4.11 ibook that was purchased in May or June of 2005. Lately, out of the blue, the power chord has stopped working.
The light that indicates the computer is charging goes on for a second and then promptly turns off and stays off; the laptop is then running on battery power; it is almost dead.
When it tries to connect (before turning off) it makes a sound like a lightbulb that is flickering and trying not to die.
This could be an outlet problem, I suppose (I will have my dorm check on that), but think it might have gotten fried when I was home for christmas because our house has ancient outlets and I usually have to use the two prong adapter there.
I disassembled my MacBook to repair a jammed optical drive. I have two problems: the first is while testing that the optical drive now worked (I tested it will it was still partially disassembled, and it did work) I noticed the track pad and keyboard were not functioning. Obviously the power button works, and the machine booted fine, but the trackpad and the keyboard don't work at all. I had to plug a mouse in to move the pointer. I should note that yes, the trackpad cable was indeed firmly plugged in.
However, at one point when trying to reassemble the top case, the trackpad cable detached from the plastic piece that plugs it into the logic board. I removed the plastic piece, slid it back into place over the wires of the cable and then plugged it back in. So I'm wondering if this means I need a new trackpad cable? My second problem is that upon full reassembly, the machine will not turn on. The power button doesn't work when the top case is firmly back in place and the rest of the machine reassembled. I have no idea what might be causing this.
I was listening to music on my macbook with headphones one night and once I unplugged them my sound stopped working. There is no red light coming out of the headphone jack and when I go to the sound settings it says there are no output controls. I don't know what to do because everyone says theirs has a red light but mine doesn't.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a macbook 2,1, the white one. Has anyone else had their regular built in sound just stop working right after upgrading to snow leopard? I can get sound to play through headphones, but once I up plug them the little sound icon in the menu bar will grey out and I will not be able to get sound to play through the internal speakers.
If I go to the Sys Pref > Sound > Output Pane, it will say "The selected device has no output controls" in the Settings for Selected Device section.
I upgraded my girlfriends laptop to Snow Leopard even though she could care less. Now she's all mad cause the sound doesn't work.
I have an old iBook that I just want to completely wipe clean and install windows XP on (I know...blaspheme). Before people start questioning why I would do such a thing...it's only because I need the laptop for DJing in which I have an external sound card that only works with Windows. The main problem is that the CD drive doesn't work so I am uncertain how to go about erasing my hard drive and installing XP via USB.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a brand new 13.3" 2010 MacBook Pro 2.4Ghz. I also have a 24" iMac and a new Mac Mini. I am using a Buffalo WHR-HP-GN as my router and wireless connection. The iMac and the Mini both connect to the network at "N" speeds while the new MacBook Pro only connects at "G". I have tried everything but it will not connect at "N". It will connect at "N" at the Apple store, so it seems strange that one out of three computers will not connect.
I also have an MSI Netbook with OSX 10.6.3 and it also connects at "N" speed. Does anyone have any ideas? It seems like I am not the only one having this problem as it is mentioned on the Apple forums. Tech support was unable to help, so they escalated my case, what ever that means.
I now have a iPhone 4. Cant use Facetime as yet, and only a few people have an iphone 4, and they are workmates.
It would be great to be able to use Facetime on an iMac or even a Win PC with an integrated webcam, as I understand that Facetime is "Open format" for others to implement?
I would love to be able to use it with a Computer so eg I could use Facetime for my daughter when Im out and about on my iPhone 4, and she at home on Win PC/iMac?
Will this ever come? I know its only WiFi so far, but surely for it to work it has to go over cellar network and use Computers?
At first I thought it was a Quark problem. When doing a mundane action such as changing a word to Italic, Quark 7.5 stalls (pretty color spinning wheel comes up and won't go away) it has to be forced to quit. Now, the same thing happened in Acrobat 7, when I was just moving across the top menu bar to drop down the tools menu. I am running MAC 0S X 10.5 on a MAC Book Pro3 - 2.4 ghz. I've run maintenance and everything looks fine.
View 2 Replies View Relatedswitch to OS X over a year ago and ever since that i have had problem with my network connection to my Vista fileserver (no it is not Vistas fault).
OSX finds my Vista computer occasionally, but almost ever when the Vista computer has been turned off over night and the OSX comp have been on over the night!
I have tried smb://IP but that only works for 20min or so, then it drops the connection, when i retry i only get an error message that says that i should control the servername or IP and try again, and if that doesnt work i should contact a sysadmin, that error message is not very usefull!
I have a Dir-655 Router if that has anything to do with this!
So I have a mac pro, sick machine, love it, and want to play some older games, such as half life 2 as the mac port glitces and sucks for me.
So here's my endeavors with Boot camp. Ran the partition and inserted my windows disk.... a note on that. I did not have a xp with SP2 or better so I made one using a program and "slipstreamed" SP3 into it.
I then installed xp. Had a problem thou. When it wanted to start windows for the first time it rebooted and then never went anywhere but a blank screen. I rebooted it manually and it dumped me into windows just fine. No sound, and many other drivers missing. It did not ask me for my Leopard disk like many said it would. So I inserted it and it installed all the missing drivers for me.
However, the network connection did not work. everything else save my numpad seems to work. I have no idea where to start. I have done everything I do on my PC Laptop set up to run fine within windows and the router. I even installed Bootcamp 2.1 as a post said it might be a problem there. IT did say it must be installed prior to SP3 but thats not really possible with my system due to it (SP3) installed with windows prior to reading about the 2.1. I need to connect so I can download files I need to run the games I wish to with this thing, otherwise I wouln't bother.
Anyway i have a macbook pro. I recently upgraded my router to a belkin. Ever since i upgraded sites like facebook are slow. Facebook still works but when i want to browse photos, the photos never load. It also will never let me upload pics.
It works perfectly on my pc. Also, when im on my mac and i connect to a different wireless network, it also works perfect. So it comes down to my mac and my network.
I have a network with an Airport Extreme Base Station. I have two Macs connected by ethernet and an Iomega MiniMax hard drive connected to the base station by USB port. I have been running two printers, an HP Laserjet 1012 and Samsung CLP-315, connected by USB cables to the MiniMax hub. This setup has been running fine for several months. Yesterday, with no change in cabling, the printers stopped working. If I try to print to either printer, I get a message saying, "looking for printer..." If I connect either printer directly to the base station, I get the same message. If I connect the printers directly to either computer by USB cable, they both print fine. What can I do to get my original setup back working? I have tried restarting all the various components and reconnecting all the cables. I have checked to make sure I have the latest drivers for the printers.

I have used MRoogle to search MacRumors and also have searched the apple forums but I must be using the wrong search terms.
I will not have a network to hook both computers up to so network sharing will not work.
I have purchased two new 2 tb external HD to use as off site backups for my new Mac.
DO I need to format one of them for NTFS and put the data on it and then hook it up to the Mac and drag and drop or can I leave the harddrive in MFS format and still use it to move files to from the MAc? I just do not know how to do this?
I have read the Apple site for how to set the iTunes library to point to another location, but am having trouble. What I did was copy my entire iTunes folder over to my network hard drive and all the files copied just fine. However, when I point iTunes to that location, the files still point to the old default iTunes. I checked this by using "get info" for the files in the library and it still points to the old location and not the new one.
Just wondering if anyone has any tips on what may be going on or why it is refusing to point to the new location?

Just got my UTD DVD today and I just installed a new hard drive on my white Macbook. I shoved the UTD disc in it and it refused to allow me to install it without a copy of Mac OS X preinstalled. No worries, my UTD DVD is for my new Macbook Pro anyway but I just though people asking this question would want to know. If you buy a new Macbook and buy your own hard drive to install in it you will have to install Leopard on it first, then use the UTD disc to do a reformat and install.

I have a setup as in the diagram below. Internet Router connected to my Airport Express N which creates a N-class network. Then I have an Time Capsule in another room that extends this network. My iMac is connected to this Time Capsule using Ethernet (WiFi is turned off completely).
iTunes is 10.6.1 (7)
Airport Express and Time Capsule have the latest firmware (v7.6.1)
Internet, sharing and other functions are working fine, just Airplay from the iMac doesn't work anymore to the Airport Express. I've tried lots of solutions, and this just seems to be broken. I've submitted to Apple feedback as well explaining the situation and that this doesn't work. If I add/remove a password or enable/disable airplay on the Express, it does reflect in iTunes. It also shows that the Airplay is locked/unlocked (see image) and also shows it as a visible audio destination.
But when you activate it from iTunes, it doesn't ask for any password (if enabled), but it just displays the "connecting" dialog for about 1 minute and then closes the window without any error and just does nothing. It's like iTunes cannot communicate to the Airport Express, although at the same time I can connect to it's internal configuration (edit) and also connect to the internet, my router's config using a browser, etc. without any problems. Also, if I'm using my iPad and iPhone, I can easily use the Airport Express from those devices, but NOT from the iMac.

I have a Mac/Windows home network with two airport extreme base stations. One is connected to my dsl modem. The other is used wirelessly to extend the network, and I have a Xerox Phaser 5500 connected to one of its lan ports. Until recently, all computers, connected wirelessly could share the internet connection and print to the Phaser. Due to a power failure, I had to reset both the Airport base stations. I can still connect to the internet, however I can not print from any of the computers.
