Aug 11, 2010Just got back from the Apple store after an appointment at the genius bar. I went in cause my mid-2009 13in MBP's battery last less than 2 hours when running on battery. This is with the bluetooth and wifi off, brightness set halfway and only having Pages open to edit an essay. They noticed I use SmcFanControl and mentioned that that program messes with the firmware that apple sends out cause it overrides the fan control.....iono, but its what they told me. They said that its best to get rid of that program...
I currently have it running, at 2000RPM, the lowest setting I believe...with my MBP @ 127*F. Its not uncommon when on youTube, Hulu, or watching a movie in iTunes for the temp. to rise to 175*F plus...which is when the SMCFanControl speeds up the fans to 5000RPMs. Anywho, aside from being curious as to what other Mac users think about this. I'd also like to make sure I delete SMCFanControl as if it was never there. I know I can go the route of throwing SmcFanControl into AppCleaner or something but i'm hoping I don't leave any fan speed settings from FanControl even after deleting it.

Oct 29, 2009I am new to Mac and need some help. I just installed norton antivirus for my mac and the software accidentally created duplicate icons in the top right control panel. I am wanting to delete one of these but haven't been successful. I already tried the command and drag off but they don't move, they are stuck there. Any remedies to this? How can I get them off the top right control panel?

May 11, 2012I'm in a small office that has 7 Mac minis all connecting to sets of files shared by a mac miniserver on osx lion server.Â
On one of the mac minis, when you access the shared files by clicking on the server, it automatically connects with an administrator password that should not be used on this computer. And I can find no way to remove this authorization.In Keychain I removed all the miniserver references but to no avail, the macmini keeps connecting to the shared files with the admin name and password. I memorized another user that's also authorized to the same files and it connect correctly, but when i diosconnect again and reconnect to the server, it does so with the admin name/password, not the new one I just memorized.Â
I could of course change the administrator password but that would mean to change all the passwords which would be very complicated.Â

May 31, 2012I had to reinstall my software on the mini now I put the re install software that it came with and I filled all the forms out including my password which never changes in all my mac's then I went and upgraded by the disc to OSX 10.5 Leopard. All ok I used the time machine from the Power PC G5 which I am writing this on now by the way too put all my programs and itunes on.
All seamed ok but it said on the start up screen Power Pc G5. And when I went to put in my password it went and done the side too side wobble no I know my password and it never changes and I tried caps lock on and off but no go I never use caps lock anyway but I thought perhaps that was the problem. So I cannot get in to the computer now. Is there a way to reset the password.

I get the message Verify that you have addressed this message correctly. Check your SMTP server settings in Mail preferences and verify any advanced settings with your system administrator. I have checked the settings and the connection doctor and everything is fine.If I need to send email i have to log ito my aol account via safari, but I would much rather use the mail that is set upon my mac.
