Laptops :: Reset Password For Installing Software In G4

Nov 3, 2010

I just picked up a PowerBook G4 at a local yard sale but when I try to install the software for my wireless printer, it states that I need an password to install the software. It has an old user name but I have no idea what the password is. Is there any way around this or did I just waste $25.00 on paperweight.

Mac Pro :: Reset The Password Without Knowing The Original Password?

Mar 5, 2012

My mother recently passed away and I've inherited her Mac Pro. She was the official "administrator" and no one knows her password. Is there any way to reset the password without knowing the original password? Or, is there a way to reset the whole laptop to factory settings? I'm not concerned about losing content from the laptop.

Laptops :: New WEP Password - Clearing Or Resetting AirPort

Nov 12, 2009

My MacBook Pro 17" 10.5 has been working flawlessly for almost two years. I am in an RV resort and their WiFi system has been updated. Prior to that everything worked fine with the old WEP password. However, with the new system and new WEP password my Mac Book Pro will not acknowledge the new password. I know the info I'm inputting is correct because my old iBook is working fine with the new password. I can only conclude that I need to clear every thing out in respect to the old name (The new name hasn't changed), IP address, and WEP password, so Airport will see the new info as if it is for the first time.

Laptops :: MacBook Pro Default Username And Password?

Dec 27, 2009

I just purchased my first ever Mac yesterday. I've wanted one for years.

I'm trying to install some programs and when I attempt to, Installer prompts me for a Username and Password.

I was never asked while setting up my computer whether or not I wanted to assign my computer with a Username or password.

The Username field is already filled in with "Apple Owner" and the Password field is blank.

Does anyone know if there is a default Username and Password and if so, what it is?

Laptops :: Using MacBookPro Boot / Open Firmware Password Protection?

I have MacBook Pro 2.4GHz Penryn 15". OS X Leopard, 6 months old.

In trying to add up to a wireless network at home (with a PC and a laptop Windows XP) I switched to "start from network" on System Preferences. On reboot, shows image of file with a ? or flashes a world clip. Usual command+S or C, Alt, attempt to reboot from CD fail. Before attempting anything else I don't want to lose my documents. When reboot with Alt, the padlock with space for password appears. I didn't set a password when I installed OS.

Laptops :: Migration Assistant Requires Excessive Password Entries - How To Configure Settings

Dec 9, 2009

I used Migration Assistant to transfer apps and files from iBook G4, 10.4.11 to MacBook 10.6.2. The apps transferred and work great, except for iPhoto. I am still working on that one. The photos are in the MacBook, but I think I need to drag them into iPhoto. (?) The bigger concern is that once I found my transferred files in Users, I could not open any of the files without using my password - every time, every file. Further, even after opening the files, I cannot trash any of them without, again, using my password. Is there any way to get around this?

I tried not to use a different password when setting up the transfer, but Migration Assistant would not allow me to use the same one.

Using my network mobile account, when I type in my password to login from the screensaver it takes a very long time and then goes back to the screensaver. Actually it takes a long time to accept my password always. Is it possible that it is timing out at the screensaver. If I type in the name and password for the admin account for the local login it works right away. The machine is a macbook pro 2.53 ghz mid 2009 model. it's running 10.5.8.

OS X V10.4 :: Cannot Reset Admin Password 10.4.11

Jun 11, 2012

I have a PowerPC G3 iBook, running OS X 10.4.11, which I bought a couple of years ago from a work colleague.  It works great, but I want to change my broadband provider software, and need to input the Admin password to have the software installed.  I have forgotten the Administrator password, so after trawling the internet I have tried to use the install disc that came with the iBook to reset the Admin password.

The install disc is version 10.2.1, and it lets me start (by pressing the C button on restart) and access the Change Password facility.  I have changed the password, saved the changes and restarted the iBook.  But when I then try to install the new broadband software, the new Admin password I've just set is not recognised!  I have seen posts on the internet giving instructions on how to 'hack' after restarting and pressing the Command and S button, but I'm not confident in doing this because I've also seen posts on forums where people with 10.4.11 have had LOADS of issues after doing so! Do I need to try and get a new install disc nearer to 10.4.11, or is there another solution??  I don't want to damage a perfectly good iBook!

OS X :: Reset Administrator Password - Root Changes

Jan 13, 2009

I just bought a used Emac running 10.3.9. The previous owner does not remember the administrator password nor did I realize how important it is to have. I have the original install discs and did boot using the disc. I then went under the install menu and chose reset password. I changed the user password but have been unsuccessful at changing the admin password. The drop down menu in password reset gave me the option of Administrator (root), Application, or finally user. I have read a couple of articles cautioning not to change or work with root changes.
