I have a canon vixia hf s 21 camcorder and I can not figure out how to down load the videos to imovie.

I realize that some movie formats on older digital cameras do not coincide with older versions of IPhoto. I have the original Iphoto/IMovie on my PowerBook G4 and neither will recognize the Canon Powershot S50 digital camera on the desktop--yet it shows up on IPhoto. I am still able to import all photos.
But what I am wondering is if there is a way that I can import video to the HD some other way? I cannot find the camera using finder despite having a USB connection. All I would like to do is download the small videos that I have on the camera's disk.
I am new to the mac format, having just purchased my first imac a week ago. The first time I tried to import video files (in .mts format) from my Canon video camera through imovie, it worked perfectly. I tried to import additional videos today and imovie will not recognize my camera. I am connecting to the imac through usb and have the camera set to the computer input mode. Also, iphoto does recognize the .jpg photos that are on the camera's SD card. I've restarted the imac and reconnected the camcorder several times, but have not been able to get imovie import to work.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've bought a Canon camcorder a few months ago and last week I got a MacBook Pro 15" with Final Cut Pro7, now I can start editing my videos but I don't know which FireWire cable I need to buy and use. I've got a MacBook guide with the laptop and I know that my MacBook Pro has a FireWire 800 port but I don't know if FireWire 800 would fit my Canon VVixia HF S10 camcorder's port. I don't know what port does my camcorder even have so that I know which FireWire cable to buy. So can you help me with this? Would the FireWire 800 fit for the Canon Vixia HF S10 or what do I have to do? I know the camcorder came with a USB cable but I don't really want to use that one, since FireWire it's much easier to use with Final Cut Pro7 than USB cable with all the save in Document first then open in FCP7. With FireWire it's easier to log and capture the video.

Now I have a MacBook Pro and when I connect the camera with a USB cable, the videos are grayed out and the computer doesn't recognize them. The videos play fine on the camera itself. Also, the still photos show up on the computer and transfer easily. I've seen older posts & sites (2008, 2009) that are related to this issue, but I'm not sure they apply anymore.

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard, I can no longer import P2 footage. I get the stop sign and error: no data.In the import window I can play the clip and everything is fine, but when I add to the clip to the import queue it just times out.
Any thoughts? Is it somehow related to Quicktime being updated by Snow Leopard?

I am going to get a new mac mini tomorow and i have a wonderful canon FS10.
Whenever I use it on my pc it is reading as .mov and i have heard from many that .mov is not read, and my cam is supossed to be reading as mpeg 2.
I have an Imac, with CS3. I use Iphoto to import my images straight from my canon 50D camera, which has been very easy for me to do. I've been importing jpegs up until now. Yesterday I attempted to import about 50 RAW images, but an error occurred and would not import them. So i suspect the error is because i am trying to import RAW images.

I can't import MXF files shot on a Canon C300 into FCP 10.1.2. I have the Canon plug in for MXF file to FCP import but FCPX still doesn't recognize MXF files when I try to import. Premiere works fine importing MXF on the same computer.

The HD videos (1920 X 1080, 24 fps, H.264, widescreen) that I have uploaded from my new Canon Powershot Elph 100 HS camera into iphoto library don't play smoothly at all when Quicktime plays them!! These are .MOV files, and I have Quicktime version 10.1. I also just upgraded to Mac OS X 10.7.3 Lion, so I don't know if this is a Lion issue or a Quicktime issue, or some other incompatibility altogether. The videos play, but they are choppy and the frame rate seems slow. No other programs are running in the background so I don't think it's a matter of other programs slowing it down. How can I play the videos so that they play smoothly? Do I need to use a different player (other than Quicktime) to play HD video? Do I need to convert these .MOV files to some other format?

how do I transfer video files shot from my camera (Canon 5DMk2) which is in .MOV format into iTunes ? My photos and video files are first imported into Aperture then synced with iTunes. However, itunes does not capture the Video files but uploads the phtos from Aperture during sync.

I have a some MP4 video files I got from a DVD which are "home" made. So no commercial DVD or anything like that.I used Adobe Premiere Pro to convert them in a Quicktime playable format and thought I could now import it to iTunes and sync it on my iPhone or iPad.On a Windows machine I was able to import the movie file but if I let iTunes convert it to the iPhone compatible format it fails. I get a new movie file with the sound but the movie shows only a white screen. On my Mac ( where I actually need it) I wasn't even able to import it into iTunes.
I konw there are many posts around about this matter but none so far could give me a hint to resolve that issue.Does anybody know the exact settings of an mp4 such that I can use it in iTunes on a Mac? I should be able to export it in any format with Adobe Premier Pro but sofar none of the files worked. Even *.mov files wont import into iTunes on my Mac.

I read through the information provided by iMovie, and searched around on Google, but I'm not getting anywhere. I have iMovie '08, and have never used it until today. I tried to import some videos (Mp4) that I have on my computer in order to edit them. I imported them, selected the project to import them to, where to save, etc. Pressed import. iMovie said it was importing the video and then uploading thumbs or whatever. After that, nothing. Nothing shows up in iMovie, and I don't know how to access the video clips, or how to make them transfer successfully. Am I doing anything wrong?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just converted to a 2007 Macbook (wife's old comp) and was using Sony's PMB software with my PC (Windows XP SP2). I know that I can use iMovie '08 to import the files but they are HUGE. I assume it's because PMB imports in AVHCD format and iMovie uses .MOV? Is there another program I can use to import my files. I don't want to waste all my hard drive space importing a few movies.
