MacBook Pro :: HD Video From Canon Elph 100 HS Choppy When Played On Quicktime

Mar 12, 2012

The HD videos (1920 X 1080, 24 fps, H.264, widescreen) that I have uploaded from my new Canon Powershot Elph 100 HS camera into iphoto library don't play smoothly at all when Quicktime plays them!!  These are .MOV files, and I have Quicktime version 10.1.  I also just upgraded to Mac OS X 10.7.3 Lion, so I don't know if this is a Lion issue or a Quicktime issue, or some other incompatibility altogether.  The videos play, but they are choppy and the frame rate seems slow.  No other programs are running in the background so I don't think it's a matter of other programs slowing it down.  How can I play the videos so that they play smoothly?  Do I need to use a different player (other than Quicktime) to play HD video?  Do I need to convert these .MOV files to some other format?

OS X Mavericks :: How To Edit Canon C300 MXF Files With Final Cut Pro 7 (Studio)

Jun 2, 2014

I recently shot some footage on a Canon C300 and would like to edit it on FCP 7, problem is it seems since my computer did the upgrade to mavericks I can no longer find the appropriate driver on the Canon site as Mavericks is not supported by Canon for this particular update.

After researching I found that mxf files can be transcoded in log and capture but you need the appropriate driver installed. I have looked into third party applications but none of them seem entirely trust worthy and some cost money, which I don't believe I should pay considering I bought a legit copy of FCP at great expense and Apple seems to have forgotten all about it now FCX has been out for a while.

Final Cut Studio :: Extract Middle Portion Of Video Frame As Separate / Smaller Video

Aug 21, 2014

Someone at work recorded a screen capture video. Within the frame, there's good material but a lot of garbage around the edges that I don't want (what Sally Hogshead would call "screen crapture"). The good stuff lasts the entire duration of the clip, is not perfectly centered, and does not move at all in its placement or change size throughout the clip.

If I crop or trim, I can eliminate the garbage, either making it transparent or black (there's no other clip beneath it to show through) easily enough.  Is there a way to then export just the desired portion of the video frame (the non-cropped good stuff) as its own video at a smaller frame size?

Software :: Import Video To Iphoto From Canon S50?

Jun 7, 2008

I realize that some movie formats on older digital cameras do not coincide with older versions of IPhoto. I have the original Iphoto/IMovie on my PowerBook G4 and neither will recognize the Canon Powershot S50 digital camera on the desktop--yet it shows up on IPhoto. I am still able to import all photos.

But what I am wondering is if there is a way that I can import video to the HD some other way? I cannot find the camera using finder despite having a USB connection. All I would like to do is download the small videos that I have on the camera's disk.

It will be saved as DV Avi files (I guess).

Final Cut Pro X :: XML - Audio Missing In Transfer?

Jun 21, 2014

Using 7toX for Final Cut Pro ... two issues:

1.  I export and XML from FCP 7.  I use 7toX to convert it and import it into FCP X.  Does a great job.  But I notice that 'some' of the clips on a given timeline (project) are missing their audio.  If I 'Find in Browser' and 'replace' the clip on the timeline with the clip from the Browser I get my audio.  It's a bit of a laborious process.  So the FCP 7 to FCP X is working fine in terms of the actual clips themselves, but the 'sequence' or 'project' being translated over, the audio is missing on random clips.

Maybe it's the clips that I had a slight sound adjustment on, I'm checking.  But still, it would be nice to know how to export the XML properly so as not to have issues.

2.  I have the audio dipping behind the voice-over in the original FCP 7 sequence.  When I import the sequence into FCP X I can still HEAR the dip, but I can't see any keyframes to adjust.  I'm wondering what the protocol is here ..

Final Cut Pro X :: Chapters To Compressor 4.1 Do Not Fully Transfer For DVD Menu

Aug 20, 2014

Making DVD, chapters from Final Cut Pro X to Compressor 4.1 do not fully transfer for the DVD menu.  I can get the title of the chapters by clicking "include subtitles" but the associated picture for the chapter does not show (though it will on iDVD).  So I have a boring menu with the words but not the picture. For example, one chapter is of Baltra, Galapagos.  The island isn't shown though the chapter says, "Baltra"

Final Cut Pro X :: Multicam And Compound Clips Missing After Event Transfer?

Jun 21, 2014

After transferring my projects, and then events (separately) to my external hard drive, everything worked after relinking media except for all of my compound clips and multicam clips.

I do not know where to locate them in Finder, nor how to get them back. When I tried transferring my events and projects back to my internal hard drive, they still were not there.

Everything was fine before with Final Cut Pro X (Version 10.0.8) but now it is seriously hindering my work.

In Final Cut Pro X 10.1.1 on the new iMac, the device is not recognized. I tried updating Mavericks and Final Cut. I've tried repairing the permissions, repairing both disk(s) deleting render files, restarting the disk, disconnecting the hard drive, restarting the computer. etc to no avail.

Final Cut Pro X :: Would Be Able To Do Video Editing?

Jun 23, 2014

I currently have a Mac Mini, ssd drive, 2.6ghz quad core i7 with 16gb of ram. Graphics is intel hd4000. Despite it's not having dedicated graphics, would I be able to do some fairly heavy video editing, in Final Cut Pro, with it? I'm still learning, but the computer was an investment and I hope it grows with me. Right now I'm learning with iMovie, but I plan on purchasing FcP in the near future. I am hoping I don't have to worry about purchasing another Mac for at least a couple of years, just because I don't have discrete graphics or iris in this one.

Basically I'm not looking to edit a feature-length presentation, but I'd like to do some music videos, with some cool effects, maybe get into short films or documentaries of 10 to 15 min in length. Nothing too intense, but I'd like to play around with some effects.
