I'm trying to empty the trash on my iMac (running Snow Leopard) but I just get an error message: The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code - 8003).Â

I was asked to install iTunes 10 on someone's computer running Vista. I ran the full install, launched iTunes 10, and it immediately crashes with CoreFoundation.dll error.
I then I tried uninstall every Apple-related software and tried reinstalling, still no go.
I used 7-Zip to extract all the install files from the iTunes install package. I tried installing each separate and came to the conclusion it was the Apple Application Support. Everytime I try to install it, it goes all the way and then crashes with a weird matrix_blahblah error (I apologize, I'll get the correct error for you tomorrow).
Did anyone else encounter this? I tried everything, even replacing the CoreFoundation.dll file and registering it with regsvr32.
I am using a 2009 27" iMac running Mavericks 10.9.4. Occasionally the OS freezes and the following message appears:
An Internal Messages error occurred.
There was a problem with Messages. You need to quit and open Messages again.Â
The mouse still moves, but the rest of the OS is totally frozen. I try to click on the Quit button in the error message dialog, but that does nothing.
There is no reaction to keyboard presses. The only solution is to hold down the Power button until the computer shuts off.Â
I can't launch iMovie '08. When I try to run the app, the icon appears on the dock, but no screen or message error is shown. It just hangs, and I must do "force quit". This only happens with my user, as I've tested with other users on the same machine and iMovie seems to be running OK. I've cleaned my user cache in order to solve any problem with that, but it didn't work at all. I have installed the last actualization (iMovie 7.1.4). I doesn't seem to be an interference with iPhoto, as other users have experienced, since I've deleted com.apple.iPhoto.plist and the problem still persists.

My iMac randomly freezes and crashes on me. Most of the freezes occur when scrolling with my trackpad on websites with Google Chrome. I get the pinwheel and have to use the power button to turn off and on the iMac. I haven't noticed any particular connection to Flash websites or video related sites. It just seems kind of random. I've also been careful to have absolutely nothing else running and it still does not prevent it. Â
Also, from time to time the iMac will crash and go to a solid color screen. Either Blue-Gray, White or Black. It seems to be random colors. When this happens, I have to use the power button to cycle it off and back on again.Â
Some info about my iMac: Model Identifier: iMac7,1 Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Speed: 2 GHz Mac OSX 10.6.8Â
What could be causing this or how can I diagnose the problem? I can give more info if needed.

I've had Mac's since my IIsi in '91 and currently the proud owner of MacBook Pro, iPhone and iMac which is just 18 months old.2 days ago I switched the machine off (iMac) and it hasn't been fully back on since. Each time I start it it automatically goes into soft boot mode. As the small bar moves across the screen it stops after about 1 centimetre (.4 of an inch) and simply whines and shuts down. I've tried the old tricks of holding down 'c' and 'd'. On one of the attempts I did reach the desktop and managed to run disk utility which said there were no problems. However, once I rebooted it simply carried on doing the same. I also managed to run Techtool deluxe which comes with the Apple Extended Warranty. Unfortunately it's not fully compatiable with OSX Lion so didn't run properly.Â
I've not known a Mac to be so knackered before. I have tried the command-R scenario but I don't think reloading Lion OSX is the cure for what appears to be a serious problem. When I shut down the iMac on Thursday I had Acrobat and Photoshop open, also iTunes and Mail. I generally use Facetime these days but on Thursday (I haven't used my Skype account for 18 months) I did install the latest version of Skype as someone required a Skype call with me. The software installed okay and I had the conversation with the person though the camera feature didn't work my end. I do wonder whether installing the Skype software has done something to the iMac. However, I don't see that it would stop it starting up completely!Â

After installing a bunch of updates; inluding iPhoto, iTunes and iMovie; the culprit seems to be the Thunderbolt thing. After the installation a message came up that none of the updates could be installed. There's only a Restart-Button — that doesn't restart the iMac. The screen has its grey login background and the Mac is stalled. About 10 minutes later I turned off the iMac and then turned it back on again. What lead to an instant Kernel Panic. I then reinstalled Lion from the Recovery HD, installed all the updates; which included two restarts that performed fine. In the final session there are the iPhoto and iMovie updates — and the Thunderbolt thing. Downloading and installing seems to work fine; but then I get the above mentioned message AGAIN.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI have a 2006 imac (1GB memory) with tiger that had been having some issues last year with crashing so I ended up and installing snow leopard and it worked great for about a year and now its acting up again. It freezes at least 2 times a day and I can't open the force quit window so I shut it off manually, but when I turn it back on it has these weird lines on it like a line of pixels got corrupted or something, but sometimes they go away. I save everything to an external drive so I don't think it has to do with it being overloaded. I did notice it mostly happens when I'm multitasking (more than one tab open, or word and firefox open at the same time) or watching a movie. Occasionally it will crash and the screen goes a peach color with white lines and I have to manually restart.  Â

I have a problem with my iMac 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (2 GB 667 MHz DDR 2 SDRAM), running OSX 10.6.5. OSX crashes and freezes all the time. Nothing works anymore. Sometimes it just freezes, and I can only move my cursor, but nothing reacts anymore. Sometimes the screen blacks (or sometimes blanks) out or shows the weird moving colours as shown on the photo I just took below: After restart, it often happens again and again. Then the iMac is fine for a couple of days, before it freezes again. Can anyone diagnose the problem from the info above?
View 16 Replies View RelatedEverytime I open an AVI in Quicktime it crashes. If I try to open an AVI through iPhoto it tries to open Quicktime and then Quicktime crashes but iPhoto doesn't. When I try to import these AVI's into iMovie it crashes again, this time taking iMovie down with it.
I have the following codec installed in Quicktime:
AC3
Xvid
DivX 6 (latest for Intel)
3ivx
Now here is the really weird part. I used to have a PPC Powerbook up until last week and the AVI files I am now trying to play in Quicktime worked fine even without any plugins so this is really weaird. Even still, if I came across a file that Quicktime couldn't play it never bombed out on me, it just produced a green or black screen with just some sound. The AVI plays fine in VLC but I need to edit them in iMovie.
I downloaded steam to my iMac and every time I load it it crashes and I get the option to reopen it, when I do It happens again. I have tried 30 times and to no avail, restarted twice and turned of and on 3 times makes no difference.

View 11 Replies View RelatedIn the last 2-3 weeks, for lack of a better phrase, my iMac has gone to ****. I get several kernel panics a day, apps crash all the time (Chrome, VLC, Quicktime, MS Word, etc.) and about a dozen times a day I am logged out of my user account with no warning. I have tried everything I can think of. I repaired permissions, I checked my disk, I disabled flash in Chrome, I uninstalled a lot of unnecessary apps and plugins. Nothing has helped. Could this be a Chrome issue? I've heard kernel panics aren't generally related to apps but it's the only program I've been consistently using during each panic/crash/log off (however, this could just be coincidence as I always have my browser open). I'm on Snow Leopard (10.6.8). Would upgrading to Lion potentially fix this? Should I reinstall the OS and start from scratch (which I would rather not have to do, as I have 500 GB of files & this would be time consuming)? This is my first Mac & while I'm generally a pretty tech savvy person, all my experience with fixing computer issues is on PCs.Â
