Intel Mac :: In-design 5.5 Crashes When Launched?
Apr 18, 2012
I just installed Creative Suite 5.5 and when I launch InDesign 5.5 it crashes. Photoshop and Illustrator will launch. I opened InDesign in a different user account and it opened but it won't open in my original account. I have deleted pref and disabled fonts. I have upgraded Suitcase Fusion 3 to the latest version. I run Mac OS X 10.6.8.

I have a question about Safari plugins. I was running under Tiger and got the SplashID desktop program with Safari plugin. I decided to upgrade my OS to Leopard so I can use a newly purchased Magic Mouse. Launched Safari and the SplashID plugin would not load. I replaced Safari, its preferences and other files and the plugin will not load. It worked fine in Tiger. I happened to have another internal drive loaded with Leopard from a while back and it's fully updated. I booted from it and installed SplashID and the plugin. Works perfectly! So, why will the Safari plugin not load on my primary drive that was upgraded from Tiger to Leopard versus the same Leopard on my other drive that was a clean install?

Basically there is some problem with the app store (and also itunes), where they are not loading to the correct page when launched from the web. This only happens if the app store had been previously opened to another page. If the app store is killed and then launched cold, it will load to the correct page.To test the phone simply go here on an iphone 4S: [url].. - click the button on the bottom of the page that says "Download app". The first time it should take you to the directv app page. But now, while you are on the app store navigate to any other page, then go back to Safari and click the button again. The App Store will stay on the page.

Just a strange problem here - when I launch an Application from my Dock (not from the Applications folder) my screen shows up the desktop and then the app. For example I am running Safari now but if I were to open Address Book from the dock, the desktop shows and then the Address Book opens.

I launch my apps via quicksilver (which is a god) and then from there will hit ⌘+(1-9) to head to any of my menu bar links... or at least that was my usual gig. The recent hick-up is when safari is launch (whether or not it is from q.s. or the dock) a new window opens up, but then deselects it's self, as if a different window was openend and selected... but no, there's nothing else. Therefor I can't command anything with out physically selecting the window with my mouse. Rather annoying. That or, ⌘+Tab to a different program then back to safari.

I have a problem with a new installation of Lion. When I shutdown my computer, all the applications are launched by default. I have unchecked the option "Reopen windows when logging back in". When I go to my login items in the preferences system, any application is present and when I click right and go to the options tab, the option "Open at login" is unchecked. The applications who are launched are Mail, NetNewsWire, Chrome and iTunes.

I have an iBook G4 with an OS X 10.3.9 operating system. Earlier today my screen went blank and appeared to have turned off on its own, even though it still had more than half of its battery charge. I pressed the power button, then had to press it again to restart it. When I tried to access my Word documents, I got this message:
The application "Word" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "1<Microsoft Word><CarbonLib><CFMPriv_CarbonCore>"
I have explored all of the online advice, I have checked the Console (the error code is -2804), I have run Disk Utility for the disk permissions, I have re-installed my operating system. I still cannot open anything in Microsoft Office (2004), nor can I open AppleWorks. I am on the verge of a mental breakdown because I have 3 major papers due this week. If I can't have access to Word on my computer I won't be able to finish them on time.

I can't get Lion to boot. Here's what I've done/tried. Where applicable I have repeated these steps just to be sure my results were consistent: 1) When I boot, I can't get past the grey screen with the apple icon and the spinning spokes. 2) After reading reviews on CNET, I installed Avanti!3) Avanti would not finish scanning and would not operate on the sketchy files it found (most just highly compressed files).4) In Finder I used Quit, then Force Quit on Avanti, only to have it start again as soon as it closed. Meanwhile it kept opening & then crashing 2 other apps: extEdit and Mail (neither of which I was using).5) I tried to shut down, but Avanti stopped the process.6) I tried trashing Avanti, but it I just got the 'moving to trash' swirly status bars running indefinitely.7) I tried deleting sub files of Avanti hoping it would cripple it sufficiently that it would not return when stopped.8) I did a hard reboot and opened to the same problem.9) I loaded MacKeeper, but that too crashed almost immediately each time.10) I tried opening System Preferences, but it too crashed immediately each time. Here's where I screwed up:11) I examined Avanti and thought I'd stop the parent process and reboot.12) I stopped the user version of launchd (Quit, not delete)13) My screen instantly went grey - no other features.14) I did a cold reboot, and got no further than the grey screen described in #115) I tried a safe boot. Same result.16) I tried emptying the PRAM. Same result. So, I'm totally stuck. I've been all over the internet looking for the answers, but it all seems to be about what launchd does, not what to do when it doesn't (at least I assume that's what's happeniing.) This being a MAC, I don't have a boot disk for repairs. In addition, none of the built-in repairs/work-arounds work because, of course, I can't get in. So, if you think the only thing to do is reload the OS, do I have to grab all my data first? I do have access through my laptop via sharing.

I know this is a long shot but does anyone know of a script (or fancy trying to write one!) that will change a desktop pattern when you launch a particular app.
Basically I'd like to have a couple of desktop patterns with all the shortcut keys for particular apps but don't want them up all the time, only when I'm using that app.
Ideally, quitting the app would return to the normal desktop pattern.

I launched the Boot Camp Assistant 2.0 on my iMac OS X v10.5. I was hoping to install Windows XP Professional with Built-in Service Pack 3. However, when I tried to partition the disk (32 GB on Windows), a message came up, saying "The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved." It states some directions underneath, but, as I am new to Boot Camp and Mac, I don't know what to do and how to do. Please help!

My iMac randomly freezes and crashes on me. Most of the freezes occur when scrolling with my trackpad on websites with Google Chrome. I get the pinwheel and have to use the power button to turn off and on the iMac. I haven't noticed any particular connection to Flash websites or video related sites. It just seems kind of random. I've also been careful to have absolutely nothing else running and it still does not prevent it.
Also, from time to time the iMac will crash and go to a solid color screen. Either Blue-Gray, White or Black. It seems to be random colors. When this happens, I have to use the power button to cycle it off and back on again.
Some info about my iMac: Model Identifier: iMac7,1 Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Speed: 2 GHz Mac OSX 10.6.8
What could be causing this or how can I diagnose the problem? I can give more info if needed.

I've had Mac's since my IIsi in '91 and currently the proud owner of MacBook Pro, iPhone and iMac which is just 18 months old.2 days ago I switched the machine off (iMac) and it hasn't been fully back on since. Each time I start it it automatically goes into soft boot mode. As the small bar moves across the screen it stops after about 1 centimetre (.4 of an inch) and simply whines and shuts down. I've tried the old tricks of holding down 'c' and 'd'. On one of the attempts I did reach the desktop and managed to run disk utility which said there were no problems. However, once I rebooted it simply carried on doing the same. I also managed to run Techtool deluxe which comes with the Apple Extended Warranty. Unfortunately it's not fully compatiable with OSX Lion so didn't run properly.
I've not known a Mac to be so knackered before. I have tried the command-R scenario but I don't think reloading Lion OSX is the cure for what appears to be a serious problem. When I shut down the iMac on Thursday I had Acrobat and Photoshop open, also iTunes and Mail. I generally use Facetime these days but on Thursday (I haven't used my Skype account for 18 months) I did install the latest version of Skype as someone required a Skype call with me. The software installed okay and I had the conversation with the person though the camera feature didn't work my end. I do wonder whether installing the Skype software has done something to the iMac. However, I don't see that it would stop it starting up completely!

After installing a bunch of updates; inluding iPhoto, iTunes and iMovie; the culprit seems to be the Thunderbolt thing. After the installation a message came up that none of the updates could be installed. There's only a Restart-Button — that doesn't restart the iMac. The screen has its grey login background and the Mac is stalled. About 10 minutes later I turned off the iMac and then turned it back on again. What lead to an instant Kernel Panic. I then reinstalled Lion from the Recovery HD, installed all the updates; which included two restarts that performed fine. In the final session there are the iPhoto and iMovie updates — and the Thunderbolt thing. Downloading and installing seems to work fine; but then I get the above mentioned message AGAIN.

I have a 2006 imac (1GB memory) with tiger that had been having some issues last year with crashing so I ended up and installing snow leopard and it worked great for about a year and now its acting up again. It freezes at least 2 times a day and I can't open the force quit window so I shut it off manually, but when I turn it back on it has these weird lines on it like a line of pixels got corrupted or something, but sometimes they go away. I save everything to an external drive so I don't think it has to do with it being overloaded. I did notice it mostly happens when I'm multitasking (more than one tab open, or word and firefox open at the same time) or watching a movie. Occasionally it will crash and the screen goes a peach color with white lines and I have to manually restart.
