My computer does not startup with extren HDD connected on usb, so I can not start up from an other HD olso not when I hold down the optionkey and if a HD is connected I have to take out the usb connection otherwise the computer does not start up.It does not matter what is on the HD, system or only files.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a mac desktop. Just recently, possible since an upgrade to mavericks, it loses its ability to use wifi its clearly recognises as connected. The temporary solution I have involves opening the network and running wifi diagnostics. It always comes back and says it is all fine but it fixes it. ie the act of running diagnostics resolves the problem.
Happens every 10 mins or so when using and is now becoming a sore point.
I am not even slightly technical. I turn on, I type, I turn off.
Computer begins start up, but screen is blue and white instead of usual backround. Get spinning mouse icon for awhile, then it stops.

I just got my iMac yesterday, and its been awesome, but I have one question. The classic "bong" sound at startup, I know that is the result of a successful POST, but mine didn't do one after the 1st startup. I had speakers plugged in to it when I started up the 2nd time, and no sound. I unplugged the speakers, and I got the sound. Is that normal or do I need to contact Apple? I jut want to make sure nothings wrong with my iMac. I checked the POST results in System Profiler and it said Passed.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI usually connect my iPad as soon as I've heard the startup chimes, but since upgrading to Yosemite, whenever the iPad is connected, iPhoto opens. Usually, nothing will open until all my extension things like Dropbox are happy, but iPhoto somehow manages to kick off. Now, I don't like iPhoto. I don't understand it and it rarely does anything I want it to, so I don't often use it and I particularly do not want it to open, slowing up starting and serving no purpose.

I currently have one router (AEBS) distributing service to over 5 machines at times. Considering buying a new router, and was wondering if this will improve the speed of the internet (also going to upgrade to 50 MB service). I wouldn't have it connected to a computer though, rather kept in my bedroom plugged in. Is this possible or does a router have to be connected to a computer at all times to distribute wifi signal? I understand setting it up initially with a computer, but does it need at all times to work?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just got a ps3 and what it boils down to is that I cannot use the ps3 and my macbook on my wireless network at the same time. I have the late 2008 unibody 2.0 macbook. Each plays nice with the network individually but as soon as I try to connect to the internet on both at the same time they crap out and I get the "your computer is not connected to the internet" error message in safari and a similar message on my ps3.
I tried researching it online and all I could find is that the routers DNS server could possibly be issuing the same ip address to both units and this could be causing the problem, seeing as you can't have the same ip address twice on a given local network. I've done all the basics like restarting each machine, disconnecting and reconnecting etc and it doesn't seem to work.
This would be more for the technical side of the house, but why would the system try to update my iPhone and its not connected to the computer? is there a bug in the system?

Trying everything from installing ix4000's driver to CUPS driver and so on. The printer works fine when connected to my MacBook Pro but when trying to print on windows xp network.. nothing happens.

When adding a printer I choose windows and I see it and can add it . The driver is available and everything works fine....But it doesn't print or it seems MBP can't send information to that computer which has the printer. The printer on that computer (XP) is shared .

My macbook is running Mavericks OS X 10.9.4, and I'm having difficulty getting rid of the vertical black columns on my computer screen when it is connected to my classroom projector. I've played with the resolutions, and the best resolution for the VGA display is 1024x768...Unfortunately this creates less than desirable black columns on my computer screen. Another teacher in my school has display settings of "1024x768 stretched," and her macbook does not have the issue mine does. However, I don't think she is running Mavericks 10.9.4. I cannot find this display option on my computer.

When I boot it up it comes up with the "DELL" loading screen, except this time it has about a dozen green lines going down the screen. And then after that screen the computer just dies. I think my only choice is a complete wipe of the drive since I can't even get into bios or anything but thought I might post here first.
View 6 Replies View Relatedmy computer likes to freeze during startup (at the apple logo, the loading wheel sometimes stops without warning). Secondly, when I tried to use my DVD drive today, at least one DVD and one CD were ejected. The one CD I tried made a clicking sound prior to ejecting. The 2nd DVD took a long time to load, and the 3rd one loaded without fail. Could this issue be related to the DVDs specifically, or is that the drive beginning to fail? I tried running the Apple Hardware Test while I was at home, but it stated that everything worked fine…I can diagnose my computer before I go to the genius bar, I just don’t want to have my laptop overheat [Emeryville and Berkeley never have availability anymore, so, when I get home for break, I’m going to take it to a store with availability..The last laptop I had (mid 2004 iBook) had a fan issue, which causes it to overheat, and shutdown unexpectedly. It still barely even works, but something caused some major screen damage to it as well.
