I have a Mac Pro 2x 2.66GHz Dual-Core (4 Cores) Xeon 5150 (Early 2006).The internal speaker chimes when I start up even though I have external speakers connected to the analog output on the back.

If I have my Mac Pro connected to external speakers, is the startup bong supposed to be played through the internal speakers? When I had my PowerBook connected to speakers, it played the startup noise through them, not the internal speaker.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just got my iMac yesterday, and its been awesome, but I have one question. The classic "bong" sound at startup, I know that is the result of a successful POST, but mine didn't do one after the 1st startup. I had speakers plugged in to it when I started up the 2nd time, and no sound. I unplugged the speakers, and I got the sound. Is that normal or do I need to contact Apple? I jut want to make sure nothings wrong with my iMac. I checked the POST results in System Profiler and it said Passed.
View 8 Replies View RelatedOkay, So i have my Unibody Macbook Pro (late 2009) hooked up to external speakers (RCA Home Theater system with a standard audio cable). Everything works fine and there is no buzz or sound except for the music of course until I plug my printer in. I know the obvious solution is to unplug the printer when listening to music but the printer is shared and other people print off of it etc. and I was wondering if anyone knew why this happens.

I have checked and double-checked the sound preferences. Nothing is muted or anything and the correct "device for output" is selected.

Imac 27" mid-2011 running Maverics 10.9.3 I'm not getting any sound from internal or ext. speakers. I can hear the startup sound when booting up.
System Preferences->Sound only shows Digital Out for OUTPUT and Output Volume is maxed and can't be adjusted. Mute is NOT checked.
I've done an SMC and PRAM reset with no change. I've tried multiple times plugging and unplugging the external speaker cable jack.
I searched the archives and I can't believe no one has mentioned this yet! This is a huge problem on both my Rev A and my new Rev B. When you connect an external monitor and external speakers using the headphone output, there is a high frequency ringing sound coming out of the speakers. I've managed to live with it by turning the treble to minimum and keeping the volume low enough but at the expense of sound quality. The strange part is, if you disconnect the monitor, the ringing sound stops. The problem only occurs if you have speakers and monitor plugged in at the same time. I've tried this on my Samsung monitor, my SONY TV, and my Panasonic audio receiver. The problem occurs with both Rev A and Rev B while my white MacBook and 2007 MacBook Pro all sound fine.

For example: I have a set of studio monitors that are hooked up to my iMac using a firewire audio interface. Whenever I'm copying data I get an extremely high-pitched frequency coming from my speakers that sounds like my hard drive spinning. Also, whenever I'm scrolling or moving the magic mouse I get a loud buzzing coming from the speakers (especially when scrolling). None of this stuff happened with my previous 20" iMac C2D. I have experienced this issue with all three of the 27" iMacs that I have gone through thus far (due to the yellow tint issue). Does this sound like something I'm just going to have to live with. All of these high pitched frequencies are driving me batty!
I'm running OS X 10.6.8 on a 2.7 GHz i7 Macbook Pro with a 250Gb Apple SSD TS256C. Since last Autumn, after a problem that saw the SSD replaced by Apple and me needing to migrate my profile across from an older Macbook, every time the system shuts down it forgets my sound settings. So no matter how I set the sound before powering down it always chimes on start up. It's entirely possible that this may be a problem from the migration, but I don't know how to rectify the issue.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 2.1 Logitech Z4 setup, and the sound is only coming out of the left speaker. I have checked the wires, they are fine, and both speakers do work - but it could be the socket that's the problem. It's plugged into the line-in socket, I have put the output in System Preferences to Headphones, and everything is inserted correctly.
What do I do?
EDIT: My sound system is plugged into the headphones jack. I have tried putting headphones into the headphone jack and the sound also only comes out of the left earbud.

Situation: no sound out from speakers in admin and user account and newly created account. Headphones work, startup chimes work on speakers.
Go to Sound in Preferences and only shows Digital Out for output. Should show Internal Speakers. Ran Diskwarrior and Applejack and zapped pram. Took mac apart and confirmed speakers wired correctly which is verified by the start up chimes being audible on the internal speakers. tested all accounts and created new account all with the same results. Did search of Google and MacRumor. Found one unaswered post indicating same problem. Had same problem with another macbook pro, ran same steps, take apart, confirm wiring setup, Diskwarriored, applejacked and zapped pram and it fixed the problem. I'm not sure what else to try. Did check Audio Midi Setup util and it also did not see the internal speakers.
I recently started re-using some Logitech Z-4i's with my MacBook. I used these speakers earlier in the year, and they worked well. I use them again, and they are not working well.

I am using Macbook Pro 13'', Mid 2010. Three days ago I attempted to connect the my macbook with an external speaker. It worked, but unfortunately, the setting remains at Digital Out. I first tried plugging my headphone, but I get this static voice, or sort of distorted noise (while playing no music of course); when I played music with my headphone on, I could hear my music along with this static or distorted noise. When I change the settings to Use audio port for Sound Input, it uses the internal speaker to play my music with no static or distorted noise. I have confirmed that my headphones have no problems. Â
Next I tested the sound on bootcamp window xp. The sound was working perfectly, headphones were working perfectly. Â
The only problem is when I use mac. When I attempt to increase the volume or decrease it, there would be a speaker symbol with a stop sign at the bottom. Whenever I play an audio and put the headphones out, there would be a red light but will disappear if im not playing any music. Â I have tried the toothpick trick and the headphone jack trick. Both fails.

Peculiar problem. My sound suddenly switched to being internal speaker only, even though I have decklink HD Extreme card and was using it as my audio output the night before. Narrowed the problem down to anything being plugged in to the firewire ports - FW400 and FW800 ports and drives or even my Mini DV deck. When I plug anything into the firewire ports, trying to get to the sound settings in system preferences hangs, and all sound will only work on the internal speaker. This is a sudden problem and leaves me only being able to plug in esata external hard drives. There is some sort of conflict going on somewhere.

I just turned on my G4 17" 800mhz iMac and there was no gong. I thought it was just turned down. So I opened iTunes and cranked the sucker 2 notches past 10 and still nothing!

When I plugged in speakers or headphones the volume keys work as normal. But with just internal the little picture on screen comes up so the keys work but it doesn't affect the volume?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a small issue on my iBook (G4) that's been driving me a bit crazy lately. I noticed a few months ago that when I selected a song/video on iTunes to play, I would get uneven volume output on my two internal speakers. I tried restarting iTunes, restarting the computer, etc. to no avail. In addition, sometimes this problem would not arise for a few days, and then suddenly start up again.
I then dug up the program Audio MIDI Setup and saw that the sliders were uneven . Once I slid them back together, I thought I had solved my problem. Nope! It came back, and I even saw that if I opened up Audio MIDI Setup right after the computer turned on, the sliders would be skewed even before opening iTunes or Safari or some other program that used audio.
I've come accustomed to manually balancing the volume output, but the irregularity of this problem occurring frustrates me. Attached is a screenshot of Audio MIDI Setup with the issue--note the Audio Output sliders.
Set the computer to output to speakers, keyboard vol controls etc control the speaker sounds and "pop" out of the speakers.
Sleep the system and it reverts back to the internal speaker, even tho the output from iTunes, Quicktime or whatever comes out of the speakers.
Does this happen to anybody else?
i have no sound on my macbook pro and no internal speaker option in the system preferences.

Sound isn't coming out of my internal speakers. When I hook up headphones everything is fine, but when I'm on the computer itself, no sound comes out, a red light is coming from my headphone jack, and the volume controls don't do anything (volume stays at max and there's a white circle with diagonal sign thru it, like a no smoking sign) and I don't get sound.

Anyone knows what's up with that? Cause the weirdest thing is that they will make that mac sound when you first press the "on" button.

I have noticed that I am having problems with the audio, there is no audio from the internal speakers at all and when ever I boot up in vista the audio jack has a red light coming out of it...This only occurs in bootcamp and if i go back to OSX the problem disappears
I have installed the latest driver from realtek and have tried to fiddle with the audio jack using cotton buds etc, but nothing seem to work... are there any other ways from rectifying this?
I was watching a movie on the bus using my headphones earlier today, and when I got home just now, the internal speakers aren't working. There is a red light coming from the headphone port and the volume can not be adjusted. Is there a software fix, or do I have to take this thing to the genius bar? I restarted the computer, still no dice.

The sound from the internal speakers in my old iMacs is pretty acceptable for day to day usage (not playing music of course), but the new one sounds horrible... extremely tinny. So is this just what they're all like these days? If not I guess it's got some issues:-/
