It started almost 3 days ago. My 2008 macbook screen would suddenly turn black. When watching a YouTube video, the sound still plays but the screen is black. I tried adjusting the brightness, didnt work. I tried pressing the power button but nothing changed. Then when i closed my screen and opened it, the display would return with the (turnoff, sleep etc) question meaning my button computed something.
View 1 Replies View Relatedmy screen keeps going black randomly but everything in the background is still playing. When i press the power button twice it will go to standby and then turns on again, but the black screen keeps getting more and more frequent. Ive tried resetting the SMC and the command+option + PR thing but nothing has worked.

My MBP has all the sudden started to throw a black screen at me. i have to restart my MBP every time this happens. I have tried doing a fresh install and starting fresh and this doesn't help, I've even installed every app one at a time and tried to figure it out.

My Macbook pro running Tiger 10.4.11 is now starting to randomly, what seems like shut the screen down, and just go to a black screen.
I am running my macbook pro, plugged into the AC / Mains, with another monitor connected, when the macbookpro screen goes black the dual monitor stays up and running, I can even do the mirror screen from the actual macbook pro and run it on the dual monitor and its running perfectly (I hope this makes sense!).
Its really odd and only started in the last few days.. it lasts about 30seconds at a time and is starting to worry me!
screen goes black, laptop seems to have not turned off but nothing can turn the screen on. seems fine after a reboot but problem recurs at some random future inconvenient point in time. problem is annoyingly inconsistent - it will occur at random (no discoverable software or hardware conjunctions), sometimes around once weekly, sometimes less frequently. have already had it in a mac repair, said they fixed it, something to do with graphics card firmware.

Anyone else noticing their new macbook air freezing randomly and the screen just turns completely black? The back light is still on but nothing is on the screen.
None of the buttons work, can't force quit anything, i have to hold power button to turn it off then back on.
It has happened to me twice already, first time when i was installing the adobe suite, second time is when I was working on a school assignment with a simulation app (not cpu or memory intensive AT ALL).
My laptop screen randomly going black during the use of computer, but the cursor is active and it moves with the track-pad. I bought this macbook pro 15"Inch laptop just 3 weeks ago. Is there any alternative for this issue?
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy mid 2013 MBP, 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 with 16Gb 1600 Mhz DDR with a 500 GB SSD running Mavericks 10.9.3 has, since upgrade to Mavericks, developed a tick. It will occasionally and erratically (some days nothing, sometimes once a day, sometimes twice or more) go black with cursor arrow visible and responsive. (Responsive=it's visible and moves as expected in response to trackpad) The screen comes back after 30-40 seconds or so, but not in response to any keypress or mouse movement that I can detect a pattern for. It just sits there, while I hit escape, spacebar, shift, cmd-option-esc, cmd-option-tab, mouse around, whatever, then comes back. System is fine, don't even get the beach ball. So it's a minor annoyance, except when I'm presenting to a roomful of people who are waiting for my machine to wake up, and that 30 seconds can be FOREVER. Which has happened twice now. When I'm connected to an external screen via thunderbolt that screen is black as well.
tried the fix of resetting SMC as well as Safe Mode boot to complete any unfinished OS updates. But the symptom is different, and those fixes haven't worked. I've never had a bad reboot, this condition just seems to pop up without apparent rhyme or reason. It's so infrequent and unpredictable that I despair how long it will take me to run bare and cycle through restoring background apps.
Computer starts (keyboard lit, music plays, caps lock light on), but no screen. I need to open and close 2 - 30 times before the screen will turn on. Once on, the computer works perfectly. I've tried PRAM and safemode reset.

View 11 Replies View RelatedMy MacBook Pro won't turn on. When I turn it on, I can hear the motor whirring, but the screen stays black. I've tried leaving it off for an extended period, I've tried unplugging the charger, leaving it to charge for 24+ hours, taking the battery out, checked that the screen brightness wasn't accidentally turned down, everything!! It started about 2 weeks ago, since then it's turned on a couple of times, but when I stop using it and it goes into sleep mode, or I turn it off, it won't come back on again. Not sure what's wrong with it, but there's some urgent files I need on that computer! I also have an iMac, which I was hoping to transfer the files to, so I can send the laptop to be looked at. So, I have 2 questions...
1. What is most likely wrong with the laptop, and is it something I can fix so it will turn on again?
2. Is there a way to transfer the files from the laptop to an external HDD or my iMac even though the laptop has a black screen.
After installing windows 7 on my new iMac the system wants to reboot, so i let it. When it does, i press down the option key and choose it to start in Widows, but now the screen turns black, and windows never starts. i dont know what to do.

My screen is black but my laptop is not off.. and its not that only the screen is black, my mac on sleep (i think)...When I turn my mac on, it does turn on.. The starting screen comes out.. but the moment the desktop opens, the screen goes black. And if I try to wake my mac up by pressing any key, the mouse shows for like three seconds(on the black screen, not my desktop). So that means that my mac is not totally off, it's just that the screen is black. But once in a while, when I press any button, my desktop shows for five seconds and the screen turns black again. I had yesterday was that the finder was keep restarting. I was still able to go on all the apps except that I could not open any files on my desktop.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just having problem with starting my Macboook. First, at start screen (gray background with the apple logo) appears pink/red horizontal lines over all the screen. Then, when i'm using my computer, screen goes black for no reason and i need to force restart to turn on the Mac.I can't believe this is happening to a "HIGH QUALITY" expensive computer. This seems happening to 2011 Macbook Pros...

When I need to go somewhere or just eat lunch, I put my iMac to sleep. After that, when I come back to wake it back up, it stays black.
View 3 Replies View Relatedmy screen is just randomly going dark. its not shuting down - just seems to go to sleep but nothing I do wakes it short of turning the power button off then on. When I do that it quickly comes on again and seems to work fine. Seems to be happening with more and more frequency and is not particular to any software. I've read the boards here - I'm not a gamer ( no games on this computer) I'm a photographer with lots of files and I use photoshop alot. Yesterday I was on you tube and my screen went dark again but the video was still playing - I could still hear it. In fact, I could hit my mouse to stop and start the video but I couldn't see anything. I have a 27" iMac. Just recently, the screen has begun to randomly shut off. I then have to squeeze the power button, followed by a click of the mouse. This will bring me back to my password screen. Sometimes, that would be it, other times, it will do it repeatedly, for no reason, and then settle down.
Just for those of you who are bound to ask me about my Energy saving settings: Computer to sleep – Never. Display to sleep – 15 min.
It seems to me that this could be a hardware issue, but just incase any of you have had any experience of something similar, I thought I would ask.

New to Mac computers. When trying to open computer after being in sleep mode, I clicked the mouse to open the password screen, & a blank blue/black screen appeared & the mouse timer( colored circle) appeared, as if to be waiting. I had to unplug the computer to reboot it. This has happened twice in 2 days.

Ever since I've had my Mac, about three times a day my screen will go completely black after I've moved the cursor very quickly or in a herky-jerky motion. I don't think I'm pressing down on the right or left--it just seems to be some motion.

Lately, as of two days ago. My iMac has been freezing and the screen just goes either black or another color that's on the screen. I was doing a conference call today, when my screen went black and I couldn't get the picture back. The audio ect worked fine, but the screen on my side went black. The computer has been freezing a lot since I upgraded the lion OS to the latest one. It runs faster, but freezes too much.
