Lately, as of two days ago. My iMac has been freezing and the screen just goes either black or another color that's on the screen. I was doing a conference call today, when my screen went black and I couldn't get the picture back. The audio ect worked fine, but the screen on my side went black. The computer has been freezing a lot since I upgraded the lion OS to the latest one. It runs faster, but freezes too much.
New to Mac computers. When trying to open computer after being in sleep mode, I clicked the mouse to open the password screen, & a blank blue/black screen appeared & the mouse timer( colored circle) appeared, as if to be waiting. I had to unplug the computer to reboot it. This has happened twice in 2 days.
Ever since I've had my Mac, about three times a day my screen will go completely black after I've moved the cursor very quickly or in a herky-jerky motion. I don't think I'm pressing down on the right or left--it just seems to be some motion.
So when I try to log in, the screen goes black, after a few seconds, when I move the mouse around, press a few keys on the keyboard, the login screen comes back. But the same thing happens when i try to log in, it just keeps going black.
my screen keeps going black randomly but everything in the background is still playing. When i press the power button twice it will go to standby and then turns on again, but the black screen keeps getting more and more frequent. Ive tried resetting the SMC and the command+option + PR thing but nothing has worked.
Sometimes, when my iMac has been "resting" and I then move the cursor using track pad I get a stream of black squares on the screen. The more I move the cursor the more black squares I get. If I switch off and then on the screen is ok. This is an intermittent occurrence.
My computer screen goes black but computer is still working ( music playing, video playing etc.) later the screen saver comes back on in 5 to 10 minutes and I can see everything again. This can happen several times during a computer session, any ideas what the problem is?
I have updaed to adobe reader 10.1.3 and now when I try to view .pdf's in safari or foxfire it just has a black screen. When I try to save as is says is doesn't recognize .pdf.
When I turn on my iMac the apple logo appears behind what looks like jail bars then a dark shade rolls down the screen then tiny squares appear all over screen with error message to restart if it fails to restart manually, which it does. Cannot get past this point.Tried command R to no avail.
I have a 2009 27" iMac, running Windows 7 x64 with BootCamp, and I'm having a problem when running Windows for more then 5 minutes.
After running it for about 5 minutes, the fans go CRAZY, the system doesnt get too hot though, the LEFT side of my screen starts flickering brightness, while the RIGHT side starts flickering colors. After a few more minutes of this, my screen goes completely black, I know the computer is still running, because I hear my music and the zombie killing me in Minecraft, but my screen, keyboard, and mouse dont seem to respond. I have double checked all drivers, I have updated BootCamp, and my next step was to reformat the drive, but that is my LAST resort.

This 5 year old iMac makes the seek optical drive sound when switched on, but does not chime, but I can hear the hard drive going afterwards.
The screen just stays black, not a flicker.
The problem is that it is located in a small pretty isolated town in NE Brazil, I will be going back out there later in the summer so if anyone has any helpful ideas it would be most welcome. Fortunately we have a full CCC clone of the hard drive and a working MBP so we haven't lost anything, but it would be very good to have it working again.
Does it have a socket for an external monitor, I really cannot remember, as I have not seen it since November, I know the old round iMacs had one.
The nearest Mac store is probably in Rio or Sao Paulo which are a good day travelling by car and plane so there is no chance of getting it there.
When I turn it on it comes up with the white screen and then the apple logo shows and then the loading symbol comes. The screen then goes blue for about 30 seconds and then the screen goes black. Code starts to come up...Here's some detail on my IMac: 17" 1.83Ghz
I Upgrades to Lion last year. Two months ago, suddenly the screen of the iMac went black. I tried to boot but it didn´t. After waiting one day, it worked and i made a backup and I installed Lion again but this time not updating. It worked, never happened again till yesterday. The screen went black, I still could listen to the song that was playing on iTunes but after a while it crashed at all.Hours later could start the computer doing everything i read here: SMC, PRAM reset, start with D, with shift.... and i made the backup but when i was going to install Lion again it went black again and I couldn´t restart my iMac.I´m afraid it´s the NVIDIA card, but i can´t be withouth the computer some weeks. Is there anything i can do to fix it or to boot at least?
When I press the start button the screen goes on and I hear the chime but after 2 to 3 seconds the screen goes completely black. the fan in working the red light under the mouse is on. led # 1,2,3 are all on. I can't find my original system disk, so I inserted an original system disk from my macbook and tried pressing "C" at start up. But what ever I do the screen goes on for 2 or 3 second and after that goes black and stays black.
My screen turned black while on safari, tried to restart by powering down. Now when I turn back on you can hear the Mac starting up but no tones and the screen is still black. Late 2011 iMac i5
When I attempt to print a pdf either a doc on the iMac or as a print option from an internet page, the preview displays a totally black page. PDF documents to be printed appear as a black screen, what setting do i need to alter?
Last night I was in the middle of downloading a file and had a kernal panic (crash report below). When I now log in I either immediately get a black screen ( but can see white spots which are the corners of windows opened) or sometimes I get to my desktop but after a few minutes the screen windows deteriate (repeatative ghosting like an old 80'spop video!) which then become unresponsive. I'm figuring it's had it's day now and hope to get a new iMac tonight. I would like to migrate everything but am unsure whether this is a hard drive failure ( in which case the migration is probably out of the window) or something else?

I've had my iMac for over 2 years now. Last Thursday, I left it on for more than 3 hours and it started having black and white verticals lines appearing on the bottom and top part of my desktop and the cursor. Yesterday, when I checked it again, it was still there! What can I do to fix it, WITHOUT going to a Apple store?
