Intel Mac :: Make Icons On Desktop With Links To Often Visited Websites?
May 16, 2012
I'm a new Mac-user having used PC:s for 25 years. On my Windows Desktop it was easy to place new icons with shortcuts to websites I often visit. I have tried to do this on my Mac, creating Bookmarks, exporting them to Desktop. Iicons appear. But when clicked they don't connect with the webaddresses I have given.
I have read Q&A from someone who tried to give similar shortcuts to customers, but I did not understand the answers. I'm Swedish and Mac Keyboard and Desktop menues etc are in Swedish so the exact terms in English may be difficult to translate. My problem is different since it's only on my Mac I need the shortcuts/icons/links.
I learned how to put icons with website links on my Desktop. Those icons are all the same (except for the names I have given them) and look boring. How do I ,put for example ,a photo of my daughter, whose blog I want to visit, on the icon?Â
I was wondering if there is a way to change the icons of the websites that I placed on my desktop. When I place a website icon on my desktop it doesnt have a picture it just has an @ with http under it. Is there a way to make it into a picture icon instead of just plain text.
I have a mass amount of files to download listed on a Web page. When I click the link, the file downloads, but the link on my downloads page never changes colors to note that the link has been visited. Â
Is this a bug and is there a work around for my HTML page? Currently I'm using javascript to change link colors.
Something I've done in the past few days has caused Safari to not change color for visited links "only" on Google search pages, which is where it's most needed. This is still working fine on FireFox. I tried creating another user account and it works fine with that. Just not with my primary account. I've done all the typical things. repaired permissions, repaired disk, completely reset Safari to default and made sure all caches, etc. were cleaned out. Both manually and with Onyx, reset associated .plist files, history, cookies, private browsing. Returning to a Google search page still shows all visited links as blue, as if they'd never been visited.
Another clue is if I log out of my Google account (which I have to be logged into 24/7 for Gmail, Google bookmarks, iGoogle, etc., it starts working, then stops working as soon as I log into my Google account again. I posted this on Google Groups but got no response. This also works fine on my wife's Mac, so it's definitely a problem just in my user account. I know I could just add a new account and use that, but it would mean re-installing all 70 applications I have now installed as they're not setup for use except with my account. I'd like to avoid that and find the actual culprit. BTW, this worked fine for a long time. Just quit working about a week ago, but it wasn't in conjunction with any new hardware or software.

Well, I am considering buying the new MacBook or the MacBook Pro. I currently have a whitebook and I would like to ask the alu MacBook users the following question. Is the alu MacBook fans going really laud when you visit web sites with flash videos or when you watch youtube videos. I am asking that because my whitebook is getting laud as hell then I perform the above actions and if the alubook is doing the same I am considering buying the Pro, which is match more quite.
I use a Fortigate router and would like to track what sites are visited by the people using my network. Was told if you set up a syslog server we can dump the information from the fortigate to it.
I am using a MacMini server 10.6 and would like to know the best way of going about this. Is there a program out there I can use?
Somehow I managed to do a "stroke" on the trackpad that made the icons on my desktop very large. I can't figure out what I did or find a setting to change them back to small size.
Anyone know the stroke or where to find the setting?
I just bought the new 13" MacBook Air and I went onto GarageBand and I have no clue on how to use it. Do you guys now a website or something that will teach me?
I have been searching everywhere for an answer on this one - and if the answer is a simple NO! Then how does one go about doing this, many bought DVDs are able to take the viewer to a website is there a way for the consumer to achieve the same effect? It would be particularly handy to get the email link to work (In much the same way that it does using a PDF document).
I woke up this morning and turned on my mac and after connecting to the internet, safari wouldn't load up any website or any link. I tried using google chrome to see if it was just safari but nothing will load up. I tried connecting to messenger for mac and it won't sign in as well. Anyone know whats up with airport?
My friend's just got a new MacBook Pro, MacOS 10.6.2, latest version of Safari, and she's having problems with a lot of websites displaying some links and text strangely, as A's in boxes (pic attached). Oddly, the other 2 user accounts on her machine are fine with the same websites! She's cleared the cache, restarted Safari and her Mac (many times), changed the text encoding (and then back again), but nothing solves it.
I am running SL and the Gmail Notifier for Mac, and Firefox. Every time I click an email link in Firefox, instead of opening up a "compose mail" page in Gmail like it used to, recently I just get sent to an old-style HTML only Gmail page, as pictured below.
Anyone else experiencing this? it's getting pretty annoying that any time I click an email, I get sent to a useless Gmail page. I've tried googling the problem, but it never turns up results that are relevant.
I visited a couple of movie streaming sites and now whenever I visit any website, clicking on links etc opens up spam pages. I have cleared the cache and pop ups are blocked but it keeps happening. Â
While in utilities/activities monitor I accidentally clicked on and then quit "launcher" program whatever that is...lost all desktop icons...how do I recover?

Just switched to Lion and the size of the dock items are too samall I have increased their size in pref but they are still very small. Also I am missing several dock items from the right side of the dividing line and yet if i mouse over the empty space the captions of the missing icons show and some times I can select the desired action by clicking on the empty space where they previously showed.

I have recently discovered that on safari, on certain websites such as bbc.co.uk, there are words that are highlighted in green and underlined. Everytime i click on a 'green word' it takes me to some kind of pop-up style website that looks pretty dodgy. Also it happens on google chrome. My computer is running a tad slower, but nothing out of the ordinary. I fear something may have downloaded by accident via the internet.

I am unable to remove the following icons from my desktop; Keys, iChat, Console, Activity Monitor. Looking for an explanation as to why this can not be done by dragging and dropping on the desktop.
I clipped a few lines out of my system log; dropped 'em on a desktop. Now they appear on every desktop. What gives? Why don't they stick to only the desktop I dropped them on?
following the proper directions with get info etc. icons from websites will not change on imac desktop with downloaded icons with either png or jpg extensions
I want to add the icon for my Mac to the desktop, but don't know how to do so. Also, the ICal icon appears both on my desktop and in the dock. When I try to remove it from the desktop, it also disappears from the dock, which I don't want to do. How can I do this addition and subtraction?
Some of my desktop icons "disappear" intermittently ( not always the same icon(s)). still appears but the icon is blank. I can still click on the blank spot and the app will launch.
Oh and my personal "Avatar" photo also reverts to an earlier choice ( intermittently ) as well. Can change it to the one I want to use but it reverts back to the old picture also from time to time ...
I am trying to retrieve all my music because they dont appear in itunes anymore. I accidentally deleted all files from trash and now most files appear on my desktop.
