When repairing permissions on a G4 iBook with OS 105.8, I find about 8 files that contain the above message and one that contains the message "ACL found but not expected in the Application / Utilities". What does this mean and how are these corrected?

I just received my new MBP with i7 processor.
What I understood is that the os should recognize 8 cores because of the 4 cores with multi threading. The system profiler however, only shows two.
Was I misinformed or is something up with the hard/software?
After having weeks of airport issues, the Genius Bar folks decided that reinstalling my operating system was the only opin to fix what they think is a software issue. After restoring all my data using my last backup and doing all software updates again, I am getting an error when trying to open itunes - 'the file itunes library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes. Would you like to download itunes now?. The two oprions I am given are 'quit' and 'download itunes'. If I chose to download itunes it tells my there are no updates! I have also plugged my ipod into my laptop and it doesn't recognize it. What should I do?? I am totally lost. When I ran the updates last night it showed itunes updating, so I am unclear as to why it isn't even opening.

When I first got it, I wasn't able to move any files to my Western Digital External (that works with my previous blackbook) and my other external. It says The item '(item name)' could not be moved because 'System' (or other folder name) cannot be modified. iWork 09 and Virtual Dj don't work either. I want to reformat the hdd, but I can't do that until I backup everything, which I can't do. I tried the second solution "Type this, followed by Return: sh /etc/rc" and my Mac said could not find this directory.

I am thinking of removing the 120gb std hdd in the mini and replacing this with a SSD, coupled with 4GB of RAM to speed things up (will be 2.26ghz). Im guessing the capacity of this will be aroung 60-80 gb and will only be used for the OS.
View 2 Replies View RelatedStarted G5, got a question mark. Rebooted from disk. Tried to repair. Told me it could not exit and complete repair to HD. Restarted again. This time everything in utility window red. Message is Fatal Hardware error to disk utility. Back-up if not completely failed and replace with new drive.
Not great at behind the scenes with my mac. Does this mean a shop visit. Any estimate on cost to me. Had lots of Macs. This is the first to crash and burn and its not that old.

Normally, a Folder "Date Modified" does not change unless the folder itself changes (name, etc). Is it possible to "force" a Folder "Date Modified" timestamp to change when an enclosed file is changed/updated? I want to look at a folder and know the date/time of the latest enclosed file/folder change. This is especially important to me when using syncing apps as I want to visually see by a folders date that a sync has occurred (the actual file change may be deeply nested within the folder.)
View 1 Replies View RelatedHow to get IMovie to recognize that I changed the dates of movie clips that I had to import into IPhoto. Subsequently I deleted an event in IPhoto and the darn thing still appeared in IMovie so that option of just deleting and starting all over again seems not to work. (I did not go into trash and really delete it so IMovie might just follow the clips to Trash!) I happened to find that in the Iphoto Library is a file called IMovie Data (In Thumbnails file folder). If I delete that file, will it cause IMovie to regenerate the thumbnails and put all of my photos and clips in the data order I now have corrected in IPhoto?

I am on an IMac - system 10.4.11. Voice over started unprompted - driving me nuts - and I fixed. But in doing I discovered an errant file with a warning attached. File is MacOSiaX2.oa7.dmg, When I try to open it warning appeared says that the file may be damaged and opening it may damage system can/should I trash - and how best to clear up - concerned it might cause more oddness in the future.
View 24 Replies View RelatedWhen I'm working, sometimes it goes to sleep without any warning, also with a full battery. It never happens when the magsafe is connected. I noticed that when I wake the macbook again, in the battery icon (top-right), there is a "X" instead of it's capacity%.. Therefore I blame my battery for the random sleep. (the "X" dissapears almost immediately after waking up)

In the last week I have been getting a persistent warning on my desktop: "Connection Failed. This file server is running on your machine. Please access the volumes and files locally." Sometimes there will be 5 or 6 of these warnings to be cleared from the desktop. All my drives are mounted correctly (2 internal 1 external USB drive) and there are no other file servers set up on my network. My machine is 400MHz PowerPC G4 700 MB SDRam running 10.4.11.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSince a week or 3 my Imac is bleeping whenever the harddisk is put to work. Before this it was impossible to make a time machine copy, it would hang at a certain point. I recently did a disk utility scan which could not be finished (aborted by the system) as it was saying (translated from Dutch): Â
"Volume-information being checked Wrong amount of free blocks on this volume (Has to be 38684126 in stead of 38684119)The volume 'Macintosh HD' is damaged and need to be repaired.Error: this disk needs to be repaired. Restart system with another disk (like Mac OS X-installdisk) and use disk utility to repair this disk."Â
So I put the installdisk 1 in, but the Imac spits it out, refuses to start up in harddisk repair mode or any other mode at all. It just spits it out and starts as usual. Install disk 2 it doesnt spit out, but I can only open a read me file. Like said, the Imac works fine, except that it is guided by literaly hundreds of beeps in high and low, short and long. I feel like being at a supermarket having my items scanned. That is what it sounds like. It is quite vocal but annoying and seem to multiply every day. In the beginning it only did at start up just a few beeps, then it got more, and now it beeps also in sleep mode. Â
I cannot do a disk repair, also not with the latest OS X update (snowleopard, since Lion is not working on my 1GB drive). I do notice though that the difference in this error code is getting bigger, it used to be just one block difference, now it is 7.  Â
Also I took the memory modules out yesterday and put them back in, as I heard this can also help get rid of the beeps. It did not solve anything at all.I can't find anything on this problem on internet, because all beep related topics are about the error codes for the RAM drives. These are not the same sounds. Â Another attempt was to install the cms program to avoid overheating fans. Also no improvement.

I've had my MBP since Oct of 2007. About 2 weeks ago it would not turn on so I had the logic board replaced. After I got it back it would randomly shut down, the only solution I could do is take out the battery and work at the lower clockspeed but it still shut down without warning, just less frequently. I thought it might be the power cord or the battery so I got those replaced but it is still happening. The first day I had the battery (yesterday) it worked fine, no random shutdowns, I calibrated the battery per apple instructions and today it worked great (during charge up and plugged in at full charge) for about 5 hours, then it shut down, I turned it back on and it shut down shortly after, I reset the SMC by taking out the battery and holding down the power button and putting it back in and it shut down again.
Then I tried to run the hardware test and it shut down again so now I am posting this out of frustration. I also reset the pram and it shut down again. Now it won't stay on for more than getting through the login screen. I don't have applecare but they replaced the logic board for no cost (which I don't fully understand), I'd rather not take it back but I will if you guys have no ideas. I looked up (with difficulty) the previous shutdown code: -2 (http://www.macwizard.com/errors.html) and it said it was a "General System Error (VBL Mgr, Queue) -2 vTypErr invalid queue element" but I have no idea what that means.
I have a folder where I place an ever growing collection of my favorite songs. Before I switched to Mac, on Windows, when I wanted to revisit songs I most recently added to the folder, I would sort the songs by the Date Modified and it would order the files I placed in the folder by date.
In OSX, however, there must be a slightly different meaning to "Date Modified," as it does not quite sort my songs by the order they were added. It gets some of it right, but there's plenty of files that are out of order--tune "x", which I know was placed in the folder a week ago is actually listed further down the list with songs placed in the folder months ago.
Is there a way to have OSX sort files in order of the date it was placed in a folder? Neither "Date Modified" nor "Date Created" works 100% as I thought it would. Or is the OSX definition of Date Modified/Created slightly different than Windows?
I used Carbon Copy Cloner to back up to an external hd. Do I now erase the hd reistall the mac os, then pull my files and apps fom the ext hd?

Disk Warrior reported a damaged resource header that cannot be repaired. The resource header is in an "older" file format (rsrc). I have been having fairly frequent freezes of the system and Disk Utility reporting a corrupted HD which Disk Unility is always able to repair and report the HD to be O.K. Could the damaged header be the cause of the freezes? If so, can anything be done about it if Warrior says it cannot be repaired?
View 4 Replies View RelatedIn System Preferences > Keyboard > Modifier Keys, select "No Action" for the Caps Lock key. Hit OK. Go back, Restore Defaults, OK. That will only work until the first, sometimes second sleep! You'll have to reboot your iMac again and again and again then to get it work again! I have changed 3 aluminum keyboards (two of the wireless).

I've had my macbook pro 13" mid 2009 running very slow after updating to 10.6.4. So I run the disk utility and after running it couple of times, some of the problems happened not to be repaired. I've run the disk utility now couple of times and I think that I've had those problems all the time. I am going to post the disk utility report below.
