firstly, i have recently got a new apple keyboard and the function keys on it have got messed up. it has the logos for things like pause, volume and brightness, but when i click them, they dont do what they say on the key. secondly, i have also recently got a magic mouse and you are meant to be able to swipe to scroll and thing like that, but that doesnt work either.
View 7 RepliesI just did a restart. I have done them several times before with no problem. This time I lost the swipe function on my mouse. Everything else works. If I right click and click "back", that works. My battery is ok. My IMAC is only 60 days old.

I recently received a bluetooth ultra-thin keyboard to use with my laptop while I have it hooked up to it's external monitor, the only trouble is that I can't seem to get the function keys to work properly. I've managed to go in and reset the dashboard control / brightness using the keyboard pane in the system settings, but I can't seem to set the volume / media control buttons. Any ideas how to get my keyboard working properly? If it matters at all, I'm running this on a 2.4 unibody MBP.

Download those, restart your computer and WHAM you'll have a bluetooth ultra thin keyboard with functions buttons that actually work. THE ISSUE: For some reason Apple computers recognize the new Aluminum keyboard as the old white keyboard. I discovered this by turning on keyboard viewer and realizing that the keyboard represented on screen had a numpad while mine did not. Supposedly Snow Leopard has an update already which recognizes this, however, we have all found that to be false. Install the mouse update and it'll all work out.
Following on from my recent post regarding the new apple wired keyboard after very helpful feedback from people who responded to my post I decided to take the leap and purchase it! Good news is that I am really happy with it and am glad that I got it! Much nicer then old apple keyboard that I was using.
I also downloaded spark v. 2.1.1 which has enabled me to change the functions of Fkeys to enable to play, pause, etc... in itunes in accordance with the keyboard layout. However, there are two functions that I am having difficulty assigning which are the F1 and F2 keys which allow the decrease and increase of screen brightness. So that I can control my screen brightness using these keys.

I've just bought a new Magic mouse for my Macbook Pro and although I've paired it using the Mouse preference pane I cannot get the scroll, swipe etc functions to work just the basic pointer and and click functions. I've run system updater and everything is up-to date - what am I doing wrong? I cannot get the options to configure it to even appear.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was thinking of purchasing an Apple Wireless Keyboard, and an Apple Magic Mouse. I'm absolutely sure it'll be a wise investment, and an awesome Christmas gift. My current Mighty Mouse is quite horrible, I don't even have the ability to scroll up. Of course I don't bother to waste my time cleaning it. Oh well, they don't have a scroll bar for nothing.
The only problem is that I'm not sure if my Mac has the proper capabilities to enable usage for the wireless perpherials I'm planning to buy. This is somewhat how my Mac looks, though I'm running on Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.3 (I purchased the disk). I believe my computer has Bluetooth, there's an Icon for it in System Preferences. In my System Profiler, it also has a Bluetooth tab (here's the information is shows, I just cropped out some info. at the top, and my name).
How do I know if my Mac is set for these two items?Looking forward to your responses.
Not sure what they call it but let's say that I have 4 open applications and/or 2 Safari windows. On my new MBP I can with 4 fingers swipe downward to cascade all of the open window or swipe up to go to an open desktop. I love this feature and I hope that this mouse can/will do this.
View 2 Replies View RelatedCompletely out of no where my Magic Mouse decided to stop swiping. I toggled the two-finger swipe off then back on in sys prefs, turned the mouse off then back on, verified all software up to date, even rebooted. nothing.
My Magic Mouse has suddenly stopped allowing the swipe to navigate feature despite being enabled. I can't believe that it's broken after only a couple of weeks of ownership, yet on the other hand I've never owned an expensive mouse that hasn't been trouble.
Anyway, all of the other features seem to be working and the mouse hasn't had a 'hard life' at all. Does anyone have any possible fixes for this or advice?
Magic mouse could be so much more useful if You could use the surface of it as a trackpad with the 4 finger 3 finger sliding features, also zoom features. Simple software update should do the trick.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just got the new Magic Mouse delivered today. I had to update OSX, it installed fine, but right now it is only working as a regular mouse. The Apple tutorial shows a separate "Mouse" tab in System Preferences to add one touch click, scrolling etc. (like the trackpad option), but in my system preferences I only have a 'mouse and keyboard' option which will only let me adjust mouse speed, but not add on the features of the mouse.

I have a problem with my magic mouse (imac 27'' C2D) because the 2-fingers swipe feature has stopped working.What can I do now ? Can I reinstall the mouse software ?

I've had my Magic Mouse since last thursday (29th Oct) and i've noticed the 2 finger swipe gesture no longer actually functions. I'm trying it in Safari (with history available to swipe through) and its definately enabled in the system preferences.
Instead of doing the swipe gesture it now just scrolls left and right. Its also not a case of positioning my fingers wrong as it used to work around 2 days ago and now it definitely no longer works.
I'm going to re-pair it a few times and replace the batteries but if it doesnt magically come back I will be replacing it.Just curious if anyone else who has had their magic mouse for this long has lost this gesture too?
Magic Mouse has this ballyhooed two-finger swipe feature that (in any browser, apparently - I use Chrome) lets you go back and forth on a page. That's great, except I rarely need to go back or forth; switching tabs, however, is way more useful. Is there a way to set up the mouse to do that instead?

the new mouse seems to remove this extremely useful feature.
Can anyone tell me if there is some multi-touch capability in the new mouse that interfaces with Expose.
If not, then this mouse is worthless until Apple puts the feature back in - buttons on the side again or not.
If you use the new mouse, you cannot use expose without having to reach over your keyboard.
I bought 2 days ago my new imac and today when I try to use it I discovered that the scroll function of the magic mouse is contrary. Scroll with finger up and the scroll goes down, scroll with finger down and the scroll page goes up.

all the normal keys on my mac keyboard worked fine on friday when at work and i come in today and they are all messed up. how do i get them back to there defaults? Example, f12 now goes to the desktop instead of actually increasing the volume and f11 is the dashboard instead of decreasing the volume, etc. I am not sure if an update or something got installed or what. I have tried going into keyboard under system preferences and restoring defaults but that didn't work. I also tried powering the keyboard off and on and still a no go. I am using the bluetooth keyboard and running snow leapord.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI bought a new MacBook Pro i5 yesterday to replace my MBP LED (2.2Ghz). The function keys on the new MBP kinda suck. I really want the one that does "Show Desktop". If you go to keyboard layout, it says that F11, F12, etc., are assigned, but seems it completely ignores them. What the F? Even if I could change the expose button to show desktop, I'd be very happy. I know you can use the 4 finger swipe, but that doesn't help while trying to drag something from the desktop into mail.

View 3 Replies View RelatedA few minutes ago I noticed that my MBA's keyboard was not lighting up as it's supposed to. A little experimenting and I found the solution (you may kick yourself, this is so simple):
The F5 key decreases keyboard brightness.
The F6 key increases keyboard brightness.
The icons on these two keys are the clue.
Installed a new bluetooth keyboard today. Now my volume controls and other features on the F1 - F12 Keys do not work.Went into Keyboard Preferences and selected and deselected the [ ] Use All F1, F2, F3 keys as standard function keys. Regardless of the setting, the volume controls do not work. Even when holding down the [Fn] Key. I can adjust volume with the mouse ( new Magic Mouse ) using the control on the menu bar.

I am presently using a Macally keyboard that is several years old. (I like the feel for typing.) System preferences allow for one key commands, but do not work with this keyboard. I took the plunge this afternoon and thought I should register as I'm sure I'll have questions in the coming weeks. I played around with an iMac at an Apple Store a few months back and kicked around buying one. I really enjoy my iPhone and my iPad, but I kept thinking about the iBook G4 that has been gathering dust because I never really took the time to learn the Mac OS. Then my Windows laptop quit and I had to send it off for repair. I dug out the iBook and that put me over the edge. For whatever reason, I had no problems figuring out the OS this time around. I've been trying to figure out how to justify an iMac ever since. Today I ordered a refurbished 21.5" iMac from Apple's refurbished site. I ended up ordering over the phone -- I called Apple to ask a couple of questions, and when I mentioned that Amazon offered Apple Care cheaper, the sales rep gave me a discount on the Apple Care. Plus, I got a free (after rebate) AirPrint-capable printer. So, I think I ended up with a pretty good deal. After all that, I'll get to my question -- do you use the wireless keyboard & magic mouse? They seemed fine when I was using them at the Apple Store, but that was just for a short time. I'm wondering how I will like them when I'm editing photos or typing a long document (I deal with all the numbers I can handle at work, so I don't do much at home that would require the number keypad).
