Intel Mac :: Two Listings Of Same Network Appearing
Mar 16, 2012
In recently reconfiguring my network, my IMac appears to have two listings of the same network within Show Networks. The iMac keeps of trying to join to the wrong one. Where will I find these do that i can delete it.
I have two iMac 27's and a MacBook Pro in the household. All of them are on my network (both wired and wirless via an Apple Extreme)Now if I open "Finder" and look under "Shared" then - all of the mac's I expect to see appear there - but also a mystery machine - something called "imac-4431be"I cant connect to this Mac - and I don't know how it got there?? My house is about 400ft away from the nearest residence - so I guess I could be seeing someone else's iMac - but how did they get on my WPA protected network (and if they were clever enough to do so then I'd guess they be able to keep their machine hidden!)
I am a new Mac owner and still wandering around in OSX, but I have a question. In System rofiler>Software>Applications, every application has 2 listings. Some have what looks to be a previous and new version, and some have both listed as the same version. Is this right? Why is this?
I've recently moved my iTunes media files off the Mac and onto a network drive (after a lot of library tidying-up), and everything from that perspective is running smoothly. Both iPhone and iPad can receive selected music/podcasts/video etc.Â
But I have a problem with playlists on the iPhone. Even though the contents of a playlist are being copied over successfully to the iPhone, the playlist on the phone doesn't contain all of the entries. So if I have a playlist called 'Car' with 17 songs, the 17 songs are all copied over but the playlist only lists 8 songs.Â
After syncronisation, I can browse the contents of the iPhone in iTunes and look at the copied-over playlist, and it will list 17 songs. But if I look at the contents of the playlist on the iPhone it will still leave some entries out.Â
I have just downloaded skype for the first time. I do not make many downloads. The problem is the application icon, appears in the side bar under places. I do not want it to be there. I'd rather it showed in applications or on my doc. How do i move it? Everytime I try to highlight it to drag it, it just opens up!!
I have a contact I no longer use and have deleted it from Contacts on my iMac and iPad, but it still keeps appearing in the To: box when I enter a similar contact, boot the iMac and iPad. How do I completely delete it to prevent this from happening?
Info: iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.2), iPod Touch 64GB 3rd gen, iPad (1)
When I click on the contacts app on the desktop no address book appears. It was working fine till yesterday.I right clicked and Quit by mistake. Contcts app disappeard, went to launch pad and retrieved app. The problems started from here. How can I fix this?
IMac Froze and now just File icon appearing on Startup and now using a back-up hard drive to restore Lion but when it searches for disks to install the restore on it can't locate the desktop hard drive.
Not sure even where to start. I have the Apple extreme router, WD network drive and 2 express units throughout the house. Looking to access the netwrk drive from MAcbook and TV that has internet connect through BLuRay disk.Router is behaving ok and the network drive is set up.Not sure where to from here. Any manuals available to take one through step by step?
I Recently changed the password for mail, on iMac. I can still read my mail, but the drop down keeps appearing, asking for my password, then telling me it's incorrect.
I am trying to better understand the security aspect of the 802.1x protocol. I have a 2006 iMac 20" running OS X Lion 10.7.4 with an Apple Airport Extreme Base Station. Is there any benefit in running a 802.1x network in a home environment?
Until now I have been connecting to a wifi network that I use at home. It is fairly slow so for large system updates I connect to a wifi dongle. When this wasn't working last week for the new system update, I came onto the forum and was advised to change the DNS settings for the wifi dongle. It all worked. Since the system update however, my existing network will not connect to the internet at all. It appears in the wifi list but won't connect to the internet. Also, when I started to look for a solution I realize that I do not have Airport as a choice in the wifi list in preferences.
I work wireless and I my IMac disconnects from the network several times in the day. It is pretty frustrating. My internet provider did every thing even changing the wires out side my house. The rather is located two matters from my computer. It is new as it is my IMac. I took my IMac to Futureshop and they said every thing is fine.
This is a new iMac with Lion. The network is ok because all my other devices work fine with it. The network is in the list and when I select it my mac joins without problem, but won't join it automatically. I've also tried to move my network up in the list but that doesn't seem to work either.
I have recently switched my internet service to Knology. I have an iMac (running OS 10.6.8), it has a 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 4 GB of SDRAM. Both I and my wife have noticed that at times (more than it should be happening) when we try to load a webpage, it freezes and will not load or takes a long time to load. I am using Safari 5.1.2. Our modem is a Arris - 76DA cable modem wireless router combo. Is there a setting in the System Preferences or in the modem that needs to be reset? It seems to work without a problem on my wife's Dell laptop.Â
I recently purchased an Apple for the first time after years on PC's. I'd like all my pictures, music & other files currently on my PC on my Mac as well but I am having trouble getting them to communicate.
We have an issue with adding a network icon to the dock. Some machines display it fine and others don't.Â
I remember him telling me that using workgroup manager doesn't work so he used to do it another way using a plist file or something along those lines. I've found the file he means but it's a .app file which contains a unix exe?Â
I've googled this problem and there seems to be people doing this with profile manager but we don't have this software. I assumed this could be done with workgroup manager but for some reason it doesn't.Â
The shortcut needs to simply go to \servernameshareÂ
The other complication i'm going to have is that the \servernameshare is being moved to a different location as it's grown so big we have run out of space. The shortcut will need to be edited with the new sharename.Â
I have installed my HP designJet 500+ printer on to my iMac g5, which opperates OS 10.3.9 and I have no problems printing directly. However, I am trying to print to the same printer using my intel based iMac opperating OS 10.6.8 but I can't seem to 'see' the printer on the network.Â
I have made sure that the share printers button is checked on both computers and I have no problem establishing a netwok between the two computers (via ethernet).Â
Although the designjet is market as both shared and default printer on the G5, it doesn't actually appear in the shared printers list on the computer.
