Intel Mac :: How To Set Up 802.1X Network

May 22, 2012

I am trying to better understand the security aspect of the 802.1x protocol. I have a 2006 iMac 20" running OS X Lion 10.7.4 with an Apple Airport Extreme Base Station. Is there any benefit in running a 802.1x network in a home environment?

Intel Mac :: It Connects To One Network But Not The Other?

Mar 12, 2012

Until now I have been connecting to a wifi network that I use at home. It is fairly slow so for large system updates I connect to a wifi dongle.  When this wasn't working last week for the new system update, I came onto the forum and was advised to change the DNS settings for the wifi dongle. It all worked. Since the system update however, my existing network will not connect to the internet at all. It appears in the wifi list but won't connect to the internet. Also, when I started to look for a solution I realize that I do not have Airport as a choice in the wifi list in preferences.

Intel Mac :: It Won't Join Correct Network

This is a new iMac with Lion.  The network is ok because all my other devices work fine with it.  The network is in the list and when I select it my mac joins without problem, but won't join it automatically. I've also tried to move my network up in the list but that doesn't seem to work either.

Intel Mac :: Network Settings For It On Knology?

Mar 13, 2012

I have recently switched my internet service to Knology.  I have an iMac (running OS 10.6.8), it has a 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 4 GB of SDRAM. Both I and my wife have noticed that at times (more than it should be happening) when we try to load a webpage, it freezes and will not load or takes a long time to load.  I am using Safari 5.1.2.  Our modem is a Arris - 76DA cable modem wireless router combo.  Is there a setting in the System Preferences or in the modem that needs to be reset?  It seems to work without a problem on my wife's Dell laptop.

Intel Mac :: Add Network Icon Onto Dock

Apr 30, 2012

We have an issue with adding a network icon to the dock. Some machines display it fine and others don't.

I remember him telling me that using workgroup manager doesn't work so he used to do it another way using a plist file or something along those lines. I've found the file he means but it's a .app file which contains a unix exe?

I've googled this problem and there seems to be people doing this with profile manager but we don't have this software. I assumed this could be done with workgroup manager but for some reason it doesn't.

The shortcut needs to simply go to \servernameshare

The other complication i'm going to have is that the \servernameshare is being moved to a different location as it's grown so big we have run out of space. The shortcut will need to be edited with the new sharename.

Intel Mac :: Printer Doesn't Appear On The Network?

Jun 7, 2012

I have installed my HP designJet 500+ printer on to my iMac g5, which opperates OS 10.3.9 and I have no problems printing directly. However, I am trying to print to the same printer using my intel based iMac opperating OS 10.6.8 but I can't seem to 'see' the printer on the network.

I have made sure that the share printers button is checked on both computers and I have no problem establishing a netwok between the two computers (via ethernet).

Although the designjet is market as both shared and default printer on the G5, it doesn't actually appear in the shared printers list on the computer.

Intel Mac :: It Isn't Saving The Prefered Wifi Network?

May 14, 2012

Periodically the wireless network has to be manually reselected in airport even after several attempts to save the preferences. It appears as the preffered network but simply won't stay connected. It is an existing network that has worked just fine with an older PC, and a macbook. The only issue is with keeping the iMac online. Is there a way to correct this so that the "network not selected" nonesense ceases and it remains connected?
