Intel Mac :: 10.5.8 System Preferences Not Responding When Opening Print And Fax?

Jun 8, 2012

My HP photosmart printer has stopped responding.  The pinwheel comes up and freezes the computer when ever I try and access the printer, or anything to do with the printer.  I have also tried going in through system preferences and the I cannot even access it. The pinwheel again pops up.  I have not added any software lately.  I have tried to update my software both for the Mac and the printer. There are no updates available. I am using Mac 10.5.8?

MacBook :: System Preferences Then Show Not Responding?

Jun 28, 2012

I have a mid-2008 Black Macbook that is giving me issues.  Any time i go into the system preferences, my last window up will be shown, then when i go back into the main menu and click on what i want (Desktop & Screensaver), i just get the rainbow orb of death.  The system preferences then show not responding and i then have to force quit the system preferences.  Can somebody please tell me what is going on and why it keeps doing this, and how to prevent it from happening again.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: System Preferences Keeps Freezing?

May 13, 2012

Last night I attempted to change my desktop picture and thought I'd scroll through my own photos to choose one. When I got one in particular, it obviously changed the picture, then I couldn't change it back again. All I got was the spinning beach ball. After a force quit, I went back, started up System Prefs and immediately the ball started spinning again. Tried this a couple more times - same result. I shut down the Mac and started up again this morning - still the same. System Prefs always opens on the 'Desktop/Screen Saver' option and the ball appears and spins, neccessitating the 'force quit' option again. (running 10.7.4)

OS X :: System Preferences Freezing Up When Selecting Desktop & Screen Saver

Dec 28, 2007

I am having a problem with System Preferences freezing up when selecting Desktop & Screen Saver. Everything else on the system works fine. I loaded a picture on the Macintosh HD Device (all other pictures are under a specific user account) to access it as a desktop background. The correct picture appears as the desktop background, but I want to change the picture. As soon as I select Desktop & Screen Saver under System Preferences the window freezes. The only way to unfreeze is to select something else on the Dock (which doesn't magnify as it normally does), then close that and go to back to System Preference and then close it. Or select something else from the dock and then Force Quit the Systems Preferences.

I will get an error message and the problem details (which I know VERY little about) show an Exception Type:

EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV) and
Exception Code: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS
If that helps.

I tried sending the picture to the trash and then reloading it, but that didn't help either.

OS X :: System Preferences Window Is Stuck And Unresponsive?

May 5, 2010

My system preferences window is stuck on the left side of my screen. I can only view half of it and can't move it. I also can't select anything on the sys pref window. Please check out the image.

Somehow I opened up Mobile Me and got a separate pop up and I am unable to close or move that as well.

I have OS 10.5.8 and using a Microsoft Natural wireless 6000 mouse.

The solution was to delete the com.apple.dock.plist. I tried that and restarted, but nothing changed.

In case it will be helpful, I have included the chain of events that led to this problem:

- First, my mouse stopped letting me double-click to select a word or any text. I altered the settings and things just got worse.

-I reset it to default set up and restarted. That didn't change anything.

-I opened the system preferences window again and it was unresponsive. I cannot click on anything. When I click on my mouse icon, a menu appears with a "Remove" option.

-I repaired my disk permissions and restarted. No change.

-I opened the sys pref window and moved it. Then the cursor was stuck to it and as I moved the cursor around, the sys pref window moved with it. I couldn't click on anything anymore and had to do a hard restart. When it came back up, I clicked on restart and waited.

-When I opened the sys pref window again it was stuck on the left side of my screen and only half visible. Since then, I haven't been able to click on it to move it or select anything. I have no idea how I was able to open Mobile Me.

-My computer is pretty much unusable until I can solve this. My mouse is so messed up that I can barely use it.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: System Preferences Stuck On "Loading ICloud..."

Apr 27, 2012

When I click on the iCloud icon in System Preferences window, "Loading iCloud..." is displayed at the top of the window, and the system basically locks up. The color disc is spinning, and I cannot open other applications, force quit anything, or shutdown the system from the menu. I have to physically punch the button, and then restart the system.  I'm also having a problem with Aperture in which it locks up shortly after it opens, and it is showing "Updating Mobile." I cannot gracefully quit Aperture; I have to Force Quit it from within the Activity Monitor.

Intel Mac :: Why Is Icluod Not Showing Up In System Preferences

May 1, 2012

I have a 2007 imac and have done all updates that I know of but the transition to icloud is not working very well.

1) icloud does not have an icon in system prefernces, it's still mobile me. Although there is a message that states the account has been moved, I cannot sync etc.

2) two of my email addresses will not stay connected in mail. Since moving to icloud I have had to reinstall them everyday.

3) I host three websites from iweb but since the change to icloud I cannot find my former account where I can access my web domain info that used to be easily found in my mobile me account page.
