MacBook :: System Preferences Then Show Not Responding?
Jun 28, 2012
I have a mid-2008 Black Macbook that is giving me issues. Any time i go into the system preferences, my last window up will be shown, then when i go back into the main menu and click on what i want (Desktop & Screensaver), i just get the rainbow orb of death. The system preferences then show not responding and i then have to force quit the system preferences. Can somebody please tell me what is going on and why it keeps doing this, and how to prevent it from happening again.
Every time I open up my system preferences(like to change my wallpaper) the rainbow color wheel just shows up and doesn't go away. I end up just having to force quit the application every time.
My HP photosmart printer has stopped responding. The pinwheel comes up and freezes the computer when ever I try and access the printer, or anything to do with the printer. I have also tried going in through system preferences and the I cannot even access it. The pinwheel again pops up. I have not added any software lately. I have tried to update my software both for the Mac and the printer. There are no updates available. I am using Mac 10.5.8?
My system preferences is not responding, I have tried to restart the computer and even shut down. When I access system preferences it still stuck in the place where it originally froze. What to do?
iCloud does not show up on my system preferences, even though I just downloaded the newest iTunes, and the latest software for my mac. How else can I download it to my macbook?
I just bought the new Quicktime Pro application- for $30. Cannot find out how to download it. The "downloading steps" first instruct me to go to my APPLE ICON, Select SYSTEM PREFERENCES, and then select the QUICKTIME icon.... But I can't find the Quicktime Icon. It's not there. Yes, I already have the Quicktime 7 application. So WHY won't it show up in my System Preferences?!
I can't seem to access icloud on my mac. All my software is up to date. When i access support for icloud, it tells me to click on the icloud icon in my system preferences but that's not an option.
I was trying to boot into Vista using the System Preferences "Startup Disk" pane , but it doesn't show the Vista Partition. I only can see network (doesn't work) and Mac Os. If I use option key during boot it does work normally.
today i was on my macbook and realized that all of my alert sounds were not working. for example, if i got a new message in ichat or new email there would be no sound. Also, when i take a screenshot there is no sound, but there usually is one. My speakers are working because i am able to play music in itunes. Also, i system preferences, the search box does not show any results like it always does
I read a few posts and articles before i ordered my new i7 MBP with HR matte display about some of the models sometimees froze all of a sudden, now it seems mine has this same issue.. 3 time now, since i got it on the 25th of May. 15 min ago i was sitting and responding to a thread on Facebook, then out of the blue, everything stops repsonding. System is running, mouse is frozen, nothing i can do but to hit the "big button" and restart the entire system. Loosing any work that i might be doing is actually the worst scenario since im a photographer.. Anyone experience these random freeze ups too ? And last but not least, what will Apple do a about it when i contact them in the morning?.. Replace it or let me cancel my purchase and if replaced, how long does that normally take? (Bought it through Apple Store).
im using that converter which converts the mac port into VGA and im using a VGA to the tv and its only showing the screensaver. NOTHING ELSE. Also strangly enough it does show DISPLAYS when I open the prefrences.
I'm not talking about the System Preferences app itself, I'm talking about the settings within the app. So for instance, the security settings, and the mouse settings, energy saver, etc.
Where can I find the settings files on my Mac so I can back them up?
I have a macbook a little over a year old. It's my first mac and I love it. Yesterday though it started acting really weird. I first noticed that it was really, really hot and the fan was running. I turned it off and back on and here's what I found out:
Applications are being deleted from macbook. ITunes, IPhoto, iChat have clear question marks over icon. There are 8-10 blank spaces in the Applications folder where applications have been deleted. However, data is still there (ex. pictures still there, but no iPhoto).
Internet= Says I have internet but wont connect.
Cannot open " System Preferences" or "Internet Preferences".
If connected to home computer will connect to internet and allowed to open internet preferences but still no system preferences.
If shut down....takes a while to come back on and starts up 2-3 times.
Also "Preview" is gone. Now " ColorSync Utility" opens.
Is this my hard drive dying? I'm tech challenged, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
could not be sure whether the Admin user - password reset with the CD would be the solution to my question as suggested in previous threads I searched - and have no idea where my start up install CD is
So my question-
I was trying to put parental control to ask for password when my computer starts up. I did something I guess and messed up the info.
I can log in with my own account when I restart my apple - which says now it is a standard account (must have messed that up)- but can not make any changes on system preferences or anything else that requires login and password. It requires Admin info. My own login that I use now used to be my admin so do not have any other info set.
now on system pref - accounts - an account titled "test" seems to be admin but can not even access that and reverse myself to be the admin since I can not unlock system pref. Or cant click on "Login Options" for the same reason.
There are no other users on this computer than me.
I recently took the plunge and installed Lion after being content with Snow Leopard....well now I have quite a few issues. When I open system preferences for some reason it automatically opens to Network...why I'm not sure. When I click show all, then click sharing, I can't make any changes in the Sharing preferences without my entire system locking up. I can't force quit or anything. I can still use the mouse but all I have is the rainbow wheel!
I have searched and searched and haven't been able to fix it. I have tried booting into the Guest account and the same problem happens there. I have trashed all the plist files everyone says to try. I have tried repairing permissions etc. I feel like I have tried everything. Is there anything else that I can do without have to do a clean re-install. I'm hearing if I do this that I won't be able to migrate my files from by backups due to permission problems?
I also took a look at my system log and it is full of this! Jul 3 22:24:26 jessica-imac com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.Kerberos.digest-service[1307]): Exited with code: 1 Jul 3 22:24:26 jessica-imac com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.Kerberos.digest-service): Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds .....
I just got the MacBook Pro three days ago. Before, m system preferences were working fine, now when I open it all i get it the spinning wheel. How can I stop this? Force Quit hasn't seemed to help.
My sound has stopped working and it has nothing to do with the speakers. I think I have messed up something with Audio Midi Setup and now its not even displaying the computers speakers on audio output...Also everytime i go to system preferences it freezes when i click sound.
