MS Word keeps hanging up. Any options other than 'forced quit'? How do I make it stop?Can content since last auto-save be retrieved? I've enabled Tracking Changes and Auto-Save for every 10 min. No idea what cause pin wheel to start whirling. Is this something I can wait out? or must I do forced quit and lose my work?

Q. I stopped an update installer of some Apple software and the Finder, now crashes without showing the desktop. Only the Apple logo and a spinning Beachball which never disappears. I can start up in the Unix mode and also in the Windows mode. I have an Imac with Osx 10.4. I could reinstall the system but probably I will loose a lot of unique files and poto's. In the Unix mode I have removed the Installer file from the desktop but it didn't change the startup. I have little experience with Unix.

So in the end I force quit the computer. When it came to restarting I get the usula apple symbol and sound when start up begins but there it stops. The spoked wheel just keeps spinning below the Apple Symbol.

I seem to have an AppleScript that is hanging, and I can't figure out how to quit it. I tried the force quit, but it doesn't appear in the list of applications. It was activated when I was compressing a pdf using the print command yesterday. I let it go overnight, but the Applescript icon is still spinning in the uppertoolbar (near my battery indicator etc). If I move my mouse over it I just get a spinning beach ball.Thanks all!

I have 2008 microsoft office running on my Macbook Pro. I was wondering why microsoft word keeps on hanging. I was guessing this is unreasonable and very strange because of the very small file I was working on, 20 pages of pure text only. When an error was encountered it says something like "Microsoft word encountered a problem and it needs to be closed. Sorry for the inconvenience." Also, sometimes it says something like "low memory". It was shocking coz how did this problem occur since I have 4GB MB.

I tossed the Word Plist file and that did not work.
I have run Virus Barrier X5 and found a about 10 files with Virus 'W97M/Pinky.B' "Quarantened" them and still have the problem.
The problem started -- I think -- when I was doing heavy editing between Numbers and Word. But I don't think it is related (though who knows at this point). Without these programs I'm rendered pretty useless.
Every time I try and get on Safari it loads my homepage and then just quits. It gives me the error message that Safari and unexpectedly quit and gives me the options of sending an error report to Mac, closing, or reopening the page. This is the first time it has done this before, but in the past week it has done it every time I have tried to get online.
View 3 Replies View RelatedToday, after updating to Snow Leopard, I have been noticing that when I have been working on a word document (Office 2008), when I quick (command + q), it will go to close and then suddenly crash asking me if I want to send a crash report and relaunch. Has anyone else been having this happen to them? It has happened a few times today to me. it is always when I am quitting with a document open (but saved).
View 24 Replies View Related2010 iMac running 10.9.4. Lately certain programs are forced to close on a regular basis. This includes Safari, Mail, Crashplan. It usually happens when the computer is sleeping. When I wake up the computer first thing in the morning, I usually have 3 - 4 messages saying that certain programs were forced to restart. This can also sometimes occur when the computer is not sleeping, but when I am using it. Typically it's Safari that is forced to restart. Â
Recently upgraded RAM and added Crashplan software for data backup. Â

Microsoft Word, Photopshop, Illustrator an Avery CD Sticker maker all give me the problem report window with the yellow trianlge and exclmation point when I try to open them and say:Â "____ has quit unexpectedly. Click reopen to open the application again. This report will be sent to Apple automatically." Â Clicking reopen offers the same thing again, and again, and again.It started yesterday with Photoshop and Illustrator, so I took them off my computer and tried to reinstall them. Is there a way to do an e-mail merge? What I mean is I need individualized messages to multiple e-mail recipients. A regular mail merge just creates individual documents which you have to manually address and e-mail.

In this context the disc sometimes doesn't eject. Only Rebooting works. More and more frequently the drive hangs, the connected application (e.g. iTunes, Auditri or Handbrake) hangs and also Disk Utility. Rebooting doesn't work (white freezing screen), only shutdown and complete startup with clicked Trackpad to remove disc. Is it a hardware or software error? The iMac is still qualified for AppleCare. Should I make a repair request to Apple?

I have a 2008 13" Macbook. Within the past few days, I've had to "force quit" Microsoft Word several times. I've never had to do this before. All my software is up to date. I moved the Firefox app from my Applications to the trash. Does this uninstall it? My hope is that it would and I could just reinstall it. I have yet to download it again. I have also had to Force Quit Microsoft Word several times. This is my main concern. I am entirely reliant on my laptop for income, as I am a journalist. I am having a situation where I will "quit" an application and it closes but then it leaves a grey screen that I cannot interact with or make go away. When I scroll between the various screens there is a blank grey screen where the application that I just closed used to be. When I use my track pad to show me all of the screens that are open it shows the application that I was in (e.g., itunes) but shows it as a grey screen that cannot be closed unless I restart my computer.
