Why does Safari open with the last page viewed from the previous session rather than my homepage? The only way I can get Safari to open to my homepage when starting a new session is to be sure to close all windows from the previous session before quitting Safari. If I don't go through this process, Safari opens to the last site I accessed before quitting.

I am running os x7.3 on mac mini with safari 5.1.4.safari will not open to my "home page"..... I set the prefs. but it always opens to the last page I went to.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I open Safari 5.1.5 it opens the last page I was in previously, not my designated homepage, which I would prefer. I looked in Preferences to change it, but to no avail. Upgraded to Lion yesterday.

using my white macbook, everytime i fire up safari it opens the last webpage that i visited, eg facebook or the login page of my bank account.
i have checked in preferences pane - ensured that the new windows and new tabs open with "homepage" and set the homepage field to [URL]( i even manually typed it in and selected "set to current page" to make sure it was ok ). then i go onto facebook, quit safari, re-open it and .. it's the facebook page again!Â
i reset safari and this has no effect. it didnt always used to be like this, just recently.
ps - so i used no capital letters, i broke my shoulder last week
I'm using Firefox to post this.Â
When I've been using Safari the page never opens up.Â

i never made myself clear in last thread. safari opens with some junk look page and a dialogue box that is clearly junk/spam related. i am unable to reset it, or quit. Also i do not know how to reset safari to open with apple page. it will send junk to my mail contacts

Now that I have Lion, when I quit Safari and then reopen it, it opens in the last page I was on when I quit. I want it to reopen in the home page like it used to. In preferences I have "New windows open with" "Homepage" and "New Tabs open with" "Homepage."
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to close safari using the red dot at the top left hand side of the screen instead of the window closing it opens a new blank safari window. Infact the same happens when I click the amber and green buttons also.
I recently have had to system updates (last night and today). Last night I also had a problem that has fixed itself where pressing the command + Q buttons would not clos safari and the "Quit safari" in in the safari drop down was greyed out. As I say the later isue has fixed itself after I force closed and the updates loaded on. Not sure if the two issues are connected.Â
My Safari homepage is blank. Bookmarks and toolbar are there but my Earthlink page and address bar are blank. The Safari version is 3.1.2 and the OSX is 10.4.11 My Internet Explorer (which I rarely use) and Firefox are working fine.

I have a question about Safari plugins. I was running under Tiger and got the SplashID desktop program with Safari plugin. I decided to upgrade my OS to Leopard so I can use a newly purchased Magic Mouse. Launched Safari and the SplashID plugin would not load. I replaced Safari, its preferences and other files and the plugin will not load. It worked fine in Tiger. I happened to have another internal drive loaded with Leopard from a while back and it's fully updated. I booted from it and installed SplashID and the plugin. Works perfectly! So, why will the Safari plugin not load on my primary drive that was upgraded from Tiger to Leopard versus the same Leopard on my other drive that was a clean install?

For days I've been trying to set up my safari to always open with a specific page, however everytime I clear the history it also wipes my home page. I've tried the preference tab, homepage, etc. but no luck. Am I suppose to check other boxes?

How do I delete websites visited on Safari from my imac?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI launch my apps via quicksilver (which is a god) and then from there will hit ⌘+(1-9) to head to any of my menu bar links... or at least that was my usual gig. The recent hick-up is when safari is launch (whether or not it is from q.s. or the dock) a new window opens up, but then deselects it's self, as if a different window was openend and selected... but no, there's nothing else. Therefor I can't command anything with out physically selecting the window with my mouse. Rather annoying. That or, ⌘+Tab to a different program then back to safari.
View 15 Replies View RelatedVisited link colors in Safari, most notably visited Google links when I return to the search page, don't change colors as they used to do. Actually, I think it's been that way for a long time (years) now but I am just now coming back around to being interested in why and if there is a way to get back to the days where new links were BLUE and visited links were GREEN (or whatever color you wanted). Is this still possible with the new Safari and if so, how do you go about setting this visted link color preference?

no matter what browser i use, safari, firefox, i can't download anything! whenever i click download it just takes me to a new site with nothing on it and the name of the download in the url
like for example
URL
is where i will say download that widget then it takes me here
URL
and no download starts or anything. its like my computer is going dumb. like it doesn't download it, just like opens the link with a blank page. why is it not downloading it. this happens for ANYTHING from ANY site on ANY web browser.
I have a mass amount of files to download listed on a Web page. When I click the link, the file downloads, but the link on my downloads page never changes colors to note that the link has been visited. Â
Is this a bug and is there a work around for my HTML page? Currently I'm using javascript to change link colors.
Something I've done in the past few days has caused Safari to not change color for visited links "only" on Google search pages, which is where it's most needed. This is still working fine on FireFox. I tried creating another user account and it works fine with that. Just not with my primary account. I've done all the typical things. repaired permissions, repaired disk, completely reset Safari to default and made sure all caches, etc. were cleaned out. Both manually and with Onyx, reset associated .plist files, history, cookies, private browsing. Returning to a Google search page still shows all visited links as blue, as if they'd never been visited.
Another clue is if I log out of my Google account (which I have to be logged into 24/7 for Gmail, Google bookmarks, iGoogle, etc., it starts working, then stops working as soon as I log into my Google account again. I posted this on Google Groups but got no response. This also works fine on my wife's Mac, so it's definitely a problem just in my user account. I know I could just add a new account and use that, but it would mean re-installing all 70 applications I have now installed as they're not setup for use except with my account. I'd like to avoid that and find the actual culprit. BTW, this worked fine for a long time. Just quit working about a week ago, but it wasn't in conjunction with any new hardware or software.

Why visited pages, e.g facebook, are shown in history even though I have private browsing mode enabled?, why pages, e.g facebook are shown in history even though I have private browsing mode enabled?

If I quit Safari with a single or multiple pages open, the next time I open Safari all the pages come back, the pages that were open when I quit the application.Even though in preferences I have a homepage selected it doesn't seem to matter.
